Message from the Headmaster
A selection of pupils from Years 4 to 6 set off last Friday to participate in the fabulous Young Voices event at the O2 arena. It was an immersive musical performance that the pupils will no doubt remember for a long time. As well as singing their carefully rehearsed songs, they were fortunate enough to see inspiring performances from violinist Anna Phoebe and Heather Small, the famous singer from the band M People.
I had the opportunity to have lunch with some of our Lower Prep pupils this week and it was uplifting to hear how much they enjoyed the KAPLA® workshop on Wednesday. This STEM workshop encouraged cooperation and teamwork whilst fuelling the children’s intellect through creative thinking, attentiveness and tenacity. The city that the pupils collaborated to build was magnificent and the carefully managed demolition at the end of the day was great fun for Year 3.

Upper Prep Chamber Choir at the O2 Young Voices Concert
Pupils in the Upper Prep Chamber Choir had a wonderful trip to the O2 last Friday for the Young Voices concert. The pupils sung a range of songs with a live band alongside thousands of other children. They were treated to watching the famous violinist Anna Phoebe and a fantastic beatboxing group. Another highlight was singing the song ‘Proud’ with the famous Heather Small. Parents came to watch the spectacular evening concert and everyone had a brilliant time. Well done to pupils involved. It really was a night to remember.

Year 6 Art
Inspired by David Hockney’s studies of the Yorkshire landscape and his iPad paintings, Year 6 students have had the opportunity to use the digital canvas in their lessons to create their own critical studies from Hockney’s artwork. It is hugely exciting and the boys have taken their time on the screen with dedication and wonder. We are very fortunate to have been gifted this screen from Samsung, which continues to form an important part of the digital learning at Cranmore. Below are some fabulous examples from the students.

Lower Prep celebrate Trust Value of ‘Intellect’ with STEM Workshop
The Lower Prep were delighted to take part in a KAPLA® workshop on Wednesday this week, in celebration of our Trust value of the year, Intellect
KAPLA® encourages logical thinking, stimulates creativity and helps develop concentration, patience and perseverance. It is also a great STEM resource. The children had an incredible time, building as a team, learning about cooperation and communication, as they collaborated in creating a wonderful ‘Cranmore Community’ out of the construction material.
The day concluded with a showcase of their monumental masterpiece to other year groups, before Year 3 had the great honour of demolishing it!
Year 2 News
In our geography unit this week, Year 2 have been learning about Kenya. This week we focused on the culture of Kenya, particularly the Maasai people. Year 2 learnt that the Maasai people are famous for their music, dance and jumping. Students had a go at the Maasai jump - look how high they jumped!
Year 1 News
Pupils in 1CG worked collaboratively in English to explain what happens on a farm during the different seasons. They came up with some amazing ideas and showed fantastic team work.

Reception News
Reception were excited to use the VR headsets this week in computing. They explored Arctic and Antarctic places and came face to face with a real Polar Bear! It made a few of us jump, but was a wonderful experience.
Nursery News
The Nursery children have all been learning about Chinese New Year. They performed a wonderful Dragon dance, wearing traditional costumes, playing musical instruments and wearing a Chinese Dragon head. There have been lots of related craft activities, which we hope you will enjoy seeing at our ‘Come and See’ event! The children have enjoyed sensory play with noodles and imaginary play in our very own Chinese restaurant.

Sports Update
Pupils in Swim Squad continue to work hard during our before-school sessions. The commitment and dedication of the pupils paid off this week with a fantastic gala win over Danes Hill. Thank you to School Swim Captain, Year 9 pupil Jensen W, who helped to run the event.
Last Friday, pupils from Year 6 played in a great squash match at City of London Freemen’s. Some pupils represented Cranmore for the first time in the sport and performed admirably.
Despite the persistent cold weather, the pupils have continued with their rugby development in Games lessons.
Meanwhile, in PE lessons, Health Related Fitness (HRF) is proving extremely popular amongst our pupils.
Winter cricket nets started last October and have been taking place every Monday and Tuesday lunchtime. We are very lucky to have the expertise of highly ECB qualified coaches, Mr Down, Mr WIlliams and Mr Barson.

Lord God and Father, We remember before you all those who bear the inner and outer scars of the Holocaust and of subsequent acts of genocide. Let them not be overwhelmed by the horrors that engulfed them. Be close to them.
Help them to see that you suffer with those who suffer, and that no wickedness can ever extinguish your infinite love. Amen.

This year’s theme for Holocaust Memorial Day ’Ordinary People’ challenges us to consider how ordinary people, such as ourselves, can perhaps play a bigger part than we might imagine in challenging prejudice today.
