Message from the Headmaster

We had an action-packed week celebrating World Book Day. We welcomed author and illustrator Chloe Inkpen to Cranmore to inspire some of our younger readers; held the Battle of the Books final during assembly for the older pupils; enjoyed a special book-themed lunch; and hosted a carousel of activities in the library. There was also a wonderful visual spectacle on Friday as pupils and staff dressed up as their chosen literary character.

On Wednesday, we hosted an IAPS qualifying swimming competition. Cranmore pupils were joined by peers from Kings College, Notre Dame, Newland House, Abbot’s Hill, Kings House and The Lady Eleanor Holles school. Our swimmers performed extremely well and we are looking forward to confirmation of who has qualified for the National Finals which will be held at the London Aquatic Centre in June. Whilst the Six Nations will be taking a break this weekend, our U10A and U11A rugby players will be competing in the equally exciting Surrey rugby tournament tomorrow and we wish them the best of luck.

We are delighted that pupils from both Cranmore and St Teresa’s will once again participate in the Grange Park Opera production of Tosca. Selected students will be attending rehearsals in London and at West Horsley Place, before performing later in the Summer term. It is a unique opportunity for pupils to be involved in the renowned production.

27 FEBRUARY 2023

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 were thrilled to receive a visit from author and illustrator Chloe Inkpen on Wednesday this week. Chloe delighted them with a dramatic reading of several of her books and demonstrated how to draw various characters. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm of our pupils in each session whether for taking part in the dramatic reading with actions and sounds or producing their own superb artwork based on Chloe’s techniques.

Reception News

In Maths, Reception have been looking at how things change over time. We planted some cress to observe over the next few weeks. We popped them by the window so they had light and gave them a good drink of water. The children all predicted how long it might take them to grow. Let’s wait and see!

Nursery News

It has been a busy week again in the Nursery. The children loved the sensory play and to develop their fine motor skills, they used scissors to cut the jelly cubes. At Forest School the children went on a bug hunt and made their own bug imprints using sour dough. The children were really excited to play in our new ‘Garden Centre,’ and speaking about their experiences of visiting a garden centre with their parents.

Our Cross-Country Squad (U9s - U13s) performed superbly well at Highfield. The U11 and U9 team finished 2 respective age groups against 28 other schools. Our U10s team came 8th, our U12s team came 6th and our U13s team came 4th. Well done to all our runners.

Thought for the week:

How will you develop spiritual discipline?

The Transfiguration

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.

Matthew 17:1-2

MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS FOR LENT 2023

The Gospel of the Transfiguration is proclaimed every year on the Second Sunday of Lent. During this liturgical season, the Lord takes us with him to a place apart. While our ordinary commitments compel us to remain in our usual places and our often repetitive and sometimes boring routines, during Lent we are invited to ascend “a high mountain” in the company of Jesus and to live a particular experience of spiritual discipline – ascesis – as God’s holy people.

Let us Pray: Our Father

Hail Mary

1 minute silence

“Lenten penance is a commitment, sustained by grace, to overcoming our lack of faith and our resistance to following Jesus on the way of the cross.”

Pope Francis

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
