Message from the Headmaster
It was an extremely successful and rewarding week for the Senior School pupils. Our U15 rugby team triumphed at the weekend with victories against St John’s, Epsom and Reed’s to win the tournament. This was followed on Wednesday by our school hosting the IAPS regional swimming qualifiers and during the latter part of the week pupils took part in a number of hockey fixtures.
Equally, over the past week, pupils have had the opportunity to take part in several trips and excursions. Senior pupils from our STEM Club visited Sandhurst Royal Military Academy and Year 8 pupils visited the National Museum of Computing. The spiritual life of the school was supported by our Lenten Mass held on Wednesday and Year 7 pupils enjoyed a Lenten retreat and workshop at Wintershall on Thursday.
Looking ahead to the education beyond GCSE, our Year 10 pupils visited the EST Sixth Form with their peers from St Teresa’s and Manor House for a Day in the Life event with some very positive feedback on the activities from pupils and staff.
After such a busy week, I think everyone deserves a good rest this weekend.
Mr EverittA Day in the Life of a Sixth Former for Year 10
On Tuesday, students from across the Effingham Schools Trust gathered for a day in the life of a Sixth Former. They took part in A level seminar-style classes and also had co-curricular sessions, which gave them a flavour of the opportunities on offer in the Sixth Form. It was wonderful to see their interest in the lessons and activities on offer and there was a great buzz throughout the day.
Year 8 Trip to The National Museum of Computing
The Year 8 pupils visited the National Museum of Computing on Tuesday. They immersed themselves in BBC Basic programming from 1983, discovered the marvels of Colossus, explored the Alan Turing Machine test, and engaged with the ethical complexities of AI. This experience ignited their curiosity and broadened their understanding of the impact of technology. Hopefully it has encouraged them to continue exploring the digital world and to consider studying Computer Science in the near future!
Mr Afana, Head of ICTSTEM Club Visit to Sandhurst Royal Military Academy
Last Friday, STEM Club pupils explored military heritage at Old College and engaged in leadership activities. At the Royal Memorial Chapel, they observed and reflected on ceremonial events. They witnessed officer cadets preparing for drills, which sparked their curiosity about military training. The students actively participated in donning gear for drills and lectures, gaining invaluable insights into military discipline. The visit left the pupils feeling excited and eager to attend future Sovereign's Parades.

Year 9 and Year 10 Drugs Awareness Education talks
Fiona Spargo-Mabbs (OBE) of The Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation, delivered an engaging, informative and affecting presentation to students in Years 9 and 10 about drugs awareness. She spoke about what drugs are, including alcohol and nicotine/vaping; risks associated with drug-taking; and the potential impacts on individuals, families and communities. Her audiences were sensitive and attentive, and left with an information card with the details of relevant charities that offer support to young people. Students have also been reminded of who they can speak to within school, should they have any worries or concerns.
Mrs TindaleYear 8 English
Year 8 are currently studying the Shakespearian comedy 'Much Ado About Nothing' in English. They have been enjoying exploring how Benedick is tricked into falling in love with Beatrice in the second act of the play. The photographs shows some of Year 8 reading this scene in groups this week in the Auditorium.

GCSE Art and Design
The GCSE Art and Design class have been learning the art of ‘cut-to-waste’ lino printing. It is a step-by step process whereby layers of lino are removed to print each new colour layer. It is a complex technique and yet every student has mastered it with a natural flair. Although I cannot share their final prints as it is live coursework, I can share a snippet of them hard at work. Their outcomes have tested their patience but all are absolutely brilliant. Well done, gentlemen!

U15 Reed's 7 Winners!
Last Sunday, our U15s attended the inaugural Reed’s 7s tournament. This was the first 7s event for Cranmore this year. The team played superbly well against some very strong teams, including St. John's (28 - 10), Reed's (29-12) and Epsom College (36-33). A combination of a resilient defence and a potent attack meant that Cranmore went unbeaten and were crowned the eventual winners. Well done to all involved; we are extremely proud! Our U14s rugby team played their last 16 Cup match on Monday against Hinchley Wood which they won 21-5.
Across the Senior School this week, we have played hockey fixtures against Cranleigh and Caterham. The U13s had their hockey IAPS on Tuesday. Winning 2 matches and drawing 1 in the pool, they progressed to the quarter-finals which unfortunately they lost 0-2 to Brambletye School. The U14s played football against St John's on Tuesday and the remaining fixtures of the week included the U15 Surrey 7s at Caterham RFC and U14 and U15 hockey fixtures against St John's.
Last Friday, Downsend hosted Cranmore in a swimming gala for age groups U9s to U15s. It was very close to the end, but Cranmore eventually won by 5 points.
On Wednesday, Cranmore welcomed several schools for the swimming IAPS. This is a regional event whereby individuals and relay teams are hoping to qualify for the Nationals.
Sports News
GCSE PE
Last week, pupils from both Cranmore and St Teresa's had a practice moderation day to gauge practical assessment scores. The sports covered were athletics, cricket and tennis.
Senior Rowing
This week Cranmore's rowing programme took the Year 9 and 10 rowers to an indoor rowing tank as an alternative form of training. All the boys had a great time experiencing the facility and equipment at Molesey Boat Club. Rowing tanks are a great coaching tool. Therefore, these sessions allowed the boys to receive many individual and group feedback pointers all in a very advantageous environment. We look forward to seeing how the boys progress through the spring in time for the local regattas in the summer.

Lent
Reflection
This week we hear about how important Lent is.
Before Jesus began His great public ministry, He spent forty days fasting and praying in the desert. We read the gospel at the beginning of Lent to remind us to prepare our hearts for the great season of Easter at the end of approximately forty days.
"Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you." ~ Saint Augustine
Lent is a time of renewal, repentance and revival. A time to re-center ourselves on the great love of God and to reorder our lives back into His holy will.
Prayer
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
Amen
St Andrew …Pray for us. St Maximilian Kolbe Pray for us.Adoration
Every Wednesday 8am to 8.25am
This is an invitation to come to the chapel to be in Jesus’ presence on Wednesday morning
This is a time of silent prayer and to be in Jesus’ presence
Parents are asked to meet us in Reception at 7.55am
When we face the sun we get a tan… but when we stand before Jesus in the Eucharist we become saints.
