Message from the Headmaster

This has been an extraordinary year at Cranmore, one I am immensely proud of, and it has been a real privilege to lead the school.

We have enhanced the learning environment of our pupils by involving them in the Aristotelian Award, Renaissance project, Rotary writing competitions, F1 Design, IT challenges, Art competitions and Maths challenges. The pupils have also had career talks from the RAF, a unique insight into cyber security at KPMG, NHS careers competitions, Engineering and Financial Management workshops and several other guest speakers.

Outside of the classroom, I have been greatly impressed with our numerous successes at local, regional and national level in sport, our incredible performances in Music and Drama, and the reverence displayed by all at our liturgical celebrations throughout the year.

The pupils should also be praised for their fundraising efforts in support of a variety of charities, and in the giving of their time to speak, perform and care for residents at Lime Grove.

The boys and girls from across the Trust found time to attend joint lectures, theatre trips, Maths challenges, CSI evenings, musical workshops, colour runs, CCF parades and many other exciting events which greatly added to the overall school experience.

Finally, I would like to thank the staff, parents and governors for their support in making this such a memorable year filled with success. I wish everyone wonderful summer break. Thank you.

5 JULY 2024

Sports Day

On Thursday afternoon all the Senior pupils took part in our annual Sports Day. The weather was kind and everyone enjoyed an exciting and closely contested series of sporting events. Congratulations to Radford House who were the overall winners and well done to all who took part.

Battle of the Bands

The first ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition took place in the Auditorium on Monday. Four Houses put bands forward for this exciting new event and I was very impressed by the quality of what was presented.

The Houses performed the following songs:

• Bowen ‘Wonderwall’

• Stokes ‘Fix You’

• Radford ‘Another One Bites The Dust’

• Morton ‘Let It Be’

Mr Piers Roberts kindly adjudicated the competition and gave the win to Bowen House. Their performance of ‘Wonderwall’ was impressive and very well-rehearsed. My congratulations to all the pupils who took part. For those about to rock, we salute you! (AC/DC)

Year 9 Personal Finance Workshop

Our Finance workshop that took place on Friday 28th June was an enticing look into the world of Finance and allowed us as young adults to have a small glimpse of what we will have to overcome in the future.

Our talk started with a small introduction then moved swiftly on to a round of quizzes regarding money-related topics, which allowed us to address the knowledge we already know and what we do not. Shortly after we moved on to a budgeting task where we were challenged to budget for ourselves and a child on a set income, some on a lower salary of £1600p/m whilst others had a higher income of £2600p/m. This workshop allowed us to understand how the wage you may receive will have a significant impact on your ability to budget and to survive in today's market.

Following lunch, we proceeded to analyse our financial statements to investigate our monthly spending. We also developed an understanding of the growing usage of contactless payments and how they do not truly display how much you are spending. This contrasts with the use of cash in expensive purchases as it allows you to physically experience your loss of cash.

Finally, we undertook an activity involving a draft financial statement in which our instructor challenged each group to quickly analyse these statements. We had to work together to seek solutions on questions regarding direct debits and how much they can affect your finances when forgotten about.

Congratulations to all the Senior pupils who performed in this year's Young Musician Competition. Three winners, from each of Years 7, 8 and 9 were selected to play in the winners’ concert. All three pupils performed brilliantly.

Year 7 winner - Colin C (piano)

Year 8 winner - Otis W (cello)

Year 9 winner - Artom E (voice)

Congratulations to the following pupils for their guitar exam results which have come out this week:

Daniel B, Year 8 pupil, was competing for West Surrey this week, having qualified by representing Cranmore at the Districts. He is now a National Champion, having come 1st in the 800m and 4th in the javelin. What an incredible achievement! Well done, Daniel.

Egham Regatta

Over 20 rowers represented Cranmore at the Egham Regatta on Sunday. It was a busy day and full of activity, which included preparing the boats, boating and participating in many races across 3 age bands. It was very pleasing to see so much progress made and valuable experience gained by all pupils. One crew, our J14+ Quad, did superbly with winning two dual races. Unfortunately, the Cranmore boat just lost in the semi-final. However, this crew, and indeed all of the rowers, should feel very proud of their effort and performance. Well done!

U13 Plate Winners at the Rokeby cricket 6s

Having lost to Feltonfleet in the semifinal of the Surrey Cup a few weeks ago, it was pleasing to have another opportunity to play the opposition school in the first round of the Rokeby 6s. Chasing 56, Cranmore started very well with both Max G and Miles K getting 20 runs each. The match was decided on the last ball, with Cranmore getting the needed runs to win the match. With other pool matches played and decided by run rates, Cranmore progressed into the Plate side of the Cup which they eventually won. It was a very fitting way to end the U13 cricket season.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

A Year of Faith

A Reading from St Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians

“Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible." ~ St Francis of Assisi

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

The Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

Reflection

This week we focus on the gift of Faith.

As we come to the end of this academic year I want to encourage you to see yourselves as God sees you. Full of possibilities and potential. May you know that you have a definite purpose and may faith grow within you. May you see the divine image in yourself so that you are also able to see it in your friends and neighbours too.
