Message from the Headmaster

Today, we have been incredibly busy welcoming over 120 families to our school for our Open Morning. Thank you to our CPA reps for kindly hosting our visitors and to all those involved. Our Senior pupils were great ambassadors for Cranmore as they took our visiting families on their tours.

Following the Open Morning, pupils in Years 9 and 10 had the opportunity to attend a lunchtime seminar about career opportunities in the RAF and the transferrable skills and attributes that RAF personnel are able to acquire.

The Summer Serenade was a wonderful display of musical talent on Wednesday evening. Parents and guests were truly entertained, and I was overwhelmingly impressed with the performance of the pupils on such a wide range of instruments. Congratulations to all the pupils and thank you to the Music Department for arranging the event.

I was delighted to learn of the achievements of our Senior Athletics Team who performed superbly at the Guildford Spectrum District event. Two of the team broke four district records between them, which is an incredible achievement.

I would like to wish the pupils in Year 9 the very best on their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Practice Expedition. I am sure they will learn some valuable navigational and survival skills over this weekend.

Summer Serenade

My congratulations to the Upper Prep and Senior pupils who performed so brilliantly at the Cranmore Summer Serenade on Wednesday evening. It was wonderful to see the variety of instrumental ensembles on show and hear the beautiful singing of our amazing choirs. We are always keen for boys to get involved in the extracurricular Music provision at Cranmore, so if your son would like to sing in a choir or is at a level where they may wish to join one of the many instrumental ensembles, please do contact me.

Year 8 Trip to the Natural History Museum

Last week Year 8 visited the Natural History Museum, where they took part in a Mars Rover workshop and explored the Volcanoes and Earthquakes Exhibition. In the workshop they designed, built and coded their own Mars Rover before testing it on a surface made to replicate the conditions they would find on the red giant.

Year 8 Trip to the Natural History Museum

The pupils explored the exhibitions of the museum with a particular focus on tectonic hazards and the physical properties of our restless Earth. Students discovered first hand evidence of plate tectonic theory before analysing the primary and secondary impacts of global tectonic events. Year 8 demonstrated problem solving skills, creativity and ingenuity throughout the day.

Well done to all students who took part in this brilliant trip.

Mrs Davies & Miss Bayley

Congratulations to for gaining the highest number of merits this week!

Year 10 Theatre Trip to See An Inspector Calls

Year 10 enjoyed an afternoon trip to Manor House School on Friday 4th May to watch a performance of ‘An Inspector Calls’ by the Globe Players. Sitting alongside Manor House’s Year 10 and 11 pupils, they were able to watch four actors bring the play to life in the Elizabeth Green Hall.

‘An Inspector Calls’ by J.B. Priestley is the boys’ modern drama text for their English Literature GCSE, and they are studying it in class this term. Its underlying themes of fairness and justice were brought out through explanations by the actors during the play and reinforced in a question-and-answer session at the end. Well done to Marco for reading the inspector’s final speech to a packed hall!

Our thanks go to Manor House’s English Department for organising this event and for inviting us to participate.

Records broken at District Athletics

On Wednesday, our Senior Athletics team went to the Guildford Spectrum for the District event; all the boys did superbly. Theo L and Daniel B broke four district records between them. Theo broke the 800m record which had not been broken since 1969 and he also broke the 400m record. Daniel broke the 800m and the Javelin district record. This means that both boys qualify for the next round which is a pathway to English Schools. We had a few top 3 finishers, one being Kobey M, jumping over 11m in the Triple Jump and he came 3rd in Javelin. Henry C came 2nd in the 800m and 2nd in the High Jump and finally Olly W came 3rd in the 1500m. Huge congratulations to the whole team!

Cricket matched have been played against Emanuel, Downsend, Reigate Grammar and Charterhouse. The U13s had some great matches against Reeds.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

Ascension of Our Lord

Bible Reading

"And he departed from our sight that we might return to our hearts and find him there. For he left us, and behold, he is here." ~ Saint Augustine

Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

Reflection

This week we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord, the moment when Jesus ascends into Heaven.

Jesus leaves the disciples alone staring up into nothingness and yet that is not the whole story as Jesus promises He will be with us always. He remains with us in our hearts, within each other and in the Eucharist. Let us rejoice at such good news.

Prayer

Dear Lord

I receive your forgiveness into my life and ask you to take your rightful place in my heart as my Savior and Lord. Come reign in my heart, fill me with your love and your life, and help me to become a person who is truly loving a person like you. Restore me, Jesus. Live in me. Ascend in me.

Amen
