Message from the Headmaster

It has been an exciting and busy week at Cranmore with pupils involved in leadership workshops, rambles, the South Downs cycle challenge, We Will Rock You play rehearsals, cello concerts and LAMDA examinations.

Well done to the athletics team who have represented the school this week and congratulations to the pupils who have qualified for the National Finals. Congratulations also to the Year 9 pupils who successfully completed their Bronze expedition in the Surrey Hills last weekend.

Over the last number of years our school has continued to grow and develop with a surge in pupil numbers. In looking towards the future, earlier this week our Chairs of Governors wrote to you to share that we would be welcoming a new school into our Trust. This change will impact Cranmore very gradually. During the next few years, it will allow us to further adapt our school and tailor the pupil experience which will continue to make Cranmore an exciting and dynamic learning environment.

Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expedition

Last weekend, seven groups of Year 9 pupils departed from Dorking station on a hot summer’s day into the Surrey Hills to undertake their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition. The going was easy initially, but there were a few challenges along the way due to the heat. Staying hydrated became a top priority! A few groups did take a few wrong turns along the way but this only added to the fun and everyone made it to Henfold Lake at the end of the first day. The boys successfully set up their own tents and cooked their dinner on camping stoves. On the second day, the boys began their return journey back to Dorking station. Morale was high as they ventured through the beautiful countryside. The boys felt a sense of relief and achievement as they arrived at the station group by group.

Year 8 Activities Week

Pupils in Year 8 have spent the whole week participating in a wide range of exciting activities. They have been baking, beat-boxing, spray painting their own t-shirts with graffiti-inspired designs, rambling, cycling, learning about leadership and paint balling. They have had a huge amount of fun and learnt several new skills.

Athletics - Three pupils qualify for Nationals

It has been a busy week of athletics with four events taking place. Last week, our U14s finished joint 1st at the Claremont Fan Court Athletics meet which had 10 schools competing. Jake B won the high jump, Harry W won the 300m and our 4 x 100m relay team took gold. On Tuesday, Cranmore pupils attended the West Surreys Event at the Guildford Spectrum. We had plenty of podium finishes resulting in three athletes qualifying for the National Championships. Year 6 pupil, Freddie W has qualified in the 1500m. Kobey M won his triple jump with an impressive distance of 10.25m. Daniel B has qualified in both the javelin and shot put. The three athletes will represent West Surrey at the National Championships which takes place at the Pingles Stadium, Nuneaton.

Members of our golf squad were in action this week against Parkside playing on our 6-hole golf course. Some of the best golf played this year was on display resulting in a comprehensive win for Cranmore. Our U12s played in a friendly tennis fixture away at St John's on Wednesday. Over 30 pupils have now represented Year 7 in tennis fixtures this term. Also on Wednesday afternoon, three U12 cricket teams played Parkside with Cranmore securing two wins .

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

Immaculate Heart

Thought for the week:

How will you show love?

We pray together...

O Immaculate Heart of Mary, full of goodness, show your love towards us. Let the flame of your heart, O Mary, descend on all people. Amen.

REFLECTION

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Immaculate Heart's fire illustrates the burning love Mary has for Jesus and us. Mary's heart is pierced with a sword to remind us of the sorrows she endured. The roses represent her purity.

Let us Pray: Our Father

Hail Mary

1 minute silence

“Mother of God and our Mother, to your Immaculate Heart we solemnly entrust and consecrate ourselves, the Church and all humanity, especially Russia and Ukraine.”

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
