Our focus this week in assembly was on Christian unity. We recognised that we are all different, with unique skills, talents and life experiences, and that we should share them with each other. The key to a thriving environment is how we come together and use our wisdom and gifts to enhance and support our community to make it even better.

The January assessments had pupils focused at the beginning of the week and they were exemplary in their approach and attitude to their studies. On Thursday, Years 8 and 9 were treated to a thoroughly enjoyable Romeo and Juliet performance workshop by the Guildford Shakespeare Company to spark their creative interests and provide valuable insight into a GCSE text. Although the cold weather impacted on a number of sports fixtures with frozen pitches, we were fortunate that our indoor and outdoor facilities enabled the pupils to stay active. Let’s hope for some warmer weather in the coming days and a return to normality.

One future date for the diary, that was shared by our CPA, is 25th March when we will be hosting the Cranmore Ball. It promises to be a fantastic evening celebrating our 55th year and I look forward to seeing many of you there. Thank you to the CPA for their hard work in planning for this exciting future event.

January Assessments

This week pupils in Years 7 to 9 have embraced the bracing weather conditions to sit their assessments. Year 7 pupils sat their papers in the comfort of their form rooms, whilst those in Years 8 & 9 have had the more formal setting of the Sports Hall, which replicates the experience of external examinations and is therefore an important part of the preparation process as pupils move into the GSCE years.

Well done to all pupils for their diligent preparation over the Christmas break.

HOUSE CUP WINNERS

Mr Pulford Deputy Head, Academic Congratulations to this week’s Senior Merit Winners Tyler House for gaining the highest number of merits this week.

Pupils in year 8 and 9 attended a performance workshop on Romeo and Juliet by the Guildford Shakespeare Company. The pupils were overwhelmingly enthusiastic about participating in the performance and found the actors’ approach very engaging, dispelling any inhibitions about studying Shakespeare. The company explained how the content and characters are everything you might see in a “Marvel movie” and even got the teachers to act. It was a thoroughly entertaining, whilst educational, afternoon.

Guildford Shakespeare Company Visit

I am thrilled that we will be welcoming back the fabulous London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC) to Cranmore on Thursday 2nd February. Choristers from St Teresa’s and members of the Cranmore Upper Prep and Senior Chamber Choirs will be invited to join the gospel choir for an afternoon workshop and then to sing along with them at the evening concert. LCGC will be performing a 45-minute set as part of this hour-long concert. Tickets for the 7pm concert will be available later this month to parents of those children taking part. Based on last time LCGC were here, this promises to be a really exciting and inspirational day for all involved.

Assembly Performance

Congratulations to this young chorister, Dylan C (7CM), who performed the beautiful ‘Caro Mio Ben’ by Giordani during senior assembly. He was awarded a Distinction for his excellence.

Congratulations to the following pupils on their exam results:

Sports Update

Despite the vast amount of rain last Saturday, Cranmore managed to still host several fixtures. Many schools in the area had to cancel matches due to waterlogged pitches, but our amazing Henderson Fields remained playable. Thank you to our grounds staff that look after our pitches so impeccably and sports staff for making it a very positive sporting experience for the pupils, despite the challenging weather. In terms of the matches that took place, our U12A and 13A teams had some great competitive matches against Thomas's Clapham.

The frost this week has meant that several fixtures have been postponed. However, Games lessons have continued as normal using all of brilliant facilities. It has been a great opportunity to develop skills in our core sports, whilst participating in a variety of other activities.

Unity

Thought for the week:

How will you do good?

Prayer for Christian Unity

Lord Jesus, who prayed that we might all be one, we pray to you for the unity of Christians, according to your will, according to your means. May your Spirit enable us to experience the suffering caused by division, to see our sin and to hope beyond all hope. Amen.

REFLECTION

This is the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. We take time to pray for deeper unity between all Christians. We also reflect on the life of Stephen Lawrence, as we seek to build a world free from prejudice and full of hope. Pope Francis invites Christians to continue to journey together “in seeking God boldly” and to “keep our gaze ever fixed on Christ,” while remaining “close to one another in prayer.”

Let us Pray:

Our Father

Hail Mary

1 minute silence

“Do not be afraid to take a chance on peace, to teach peace, to live peace... Peace will be the last word of history.”

“We are making this journey not as those who already possess God, but as those who continue to seek Him.”

Pope John Paul II

Pope Francis
