815JANUARY 2024 3 JULY 2023 JANUARY 2024 Message from the Headmaster
The January assessments allow our pupils to review their progress and familiarise themselves with revision and exam techniques that will aid them in the future. I was impressed with the diligence and focus which the pupils showed throughout this week. Alongside their assessments, the pupils have shown their enthusiasm and commitment to the extracurricular programme with sports training, music ensembles, clubs and rehearsals for the Senior Production all underway.
We were privileged to have a visiting speaker, Mr Bradshawe from KPMG, to share his experience with the Royal Marines Association before taking up a position in cybersecurity. The boys were riveted as he explained the impact of cyber-attacks and specifically, ransomware attacks on leading organisations and private individuals online. It was a great opportunity for the pupils to link their studies with the modern world of IT and appreciate the pathways available to them as they look towards careers in the future. We are delighted that Mr Bradshawe will be returning for another visit during Safer Internet Day in February.
Mr Everitt
Cyber Security Assembly In our Senior Assembly today we had a very interesting talk by Mr Bradshawe from KPMG, a former Royal Marine who now works in the field of cyber security. He gave a fascinating insight into the history of cyber security, the current threats we are facing and what is being done to counter them. Our pupils were struck particularly by the fact that there is one new attack every 39 seconds worldwide. We look forward to Mr Bradshawe’s return visit later in the term for our Safer Internet Week when he will go into greater detail about the topics he covered today.
January 2024 Assessments A clear and crisp start to the week saw all Senior pupils sitting their January assessments, which finished at lunch time on Wednesday. Pupils in Years 7 and 8 sat their papers in the comfort of their form rooms, whilst those in Years 9 and 10 have had the more formal setting of the Sports Hall, which is an important part of the preparation process for GSCE examinations. Well done to all pupils for their diligent preparation over the Christmas break.

Brothers Ralph and Neal and their cousin Graham Broadbent are professional string players with a difference, playing all genres of music on electric instruments with a real sense of fun and creativity!
Pupils playing string instruments of Grade 1 standard and above from across the three Trust schools will soon be invited to participate in afternoon workshops and then play alongside Stringfever at the start of the evening concert.
Anyone is welcome to attend the hour-long evening concert. Tickets will cost £5 and go on sale via Eventbrite at the end of this month.
If you have any queries regarding this event, please do contact a member of the Music Department.

This Week’s House Cup Winners
Congratulations to Borelli House who gained the highest number of merits this week!
Sports News We have had a very successful start to the Year 9 and 10 football season. At the end of last week, our U15As won 21 versus Emanuel school, with our U15B drawing 2-2. On Saturday, our U14Bs played Brighton College. The U14Bs had a very competitive match losing to a late goal, 2-3. However, the U14As displayed a great performance including dominating possession and defending admirably. The final score was 7-1 to Cranmore.
Also on Saturday, The U13A and U12A rugby teams had great matches against Thomas's Clapham.
On Tuesday, four of our Year 8 boys along with our Head of Golf, Mr. Cox, represented the school in the inaugural Danes Hill Driving Range Golf tournament. Five schools competed at Wentworth West Course, using the Trackman technology at Leatherhead Golf Club. Despite the bitterly cold conditions, all the boys hit some fantastic shots and finished in 2nd place, just one shot behind the leaders. It was a great event and a brilliant opportunity to get some winter golf in before the summer term.

The U14s hockey team played St George's in the first round of the National Cup on Thursday. Unfortunately, the team lost but Cranmore can be proud of their performance.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team
Speak Lord...your servant is listening
Bible Reading A Reading from the Book of Samuel The Lord then came and stood by, calling as he had done before, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ Samuel answered, ‘Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.’ Reflection In the reading we hear how God calls out to Samuel in the night. At first Samuel does not recognise that it is God speaking. In the Gospel we hear how Jesus calls Peter to be the rock on which His church is built. We may often ask ourselves what our life is about and what we are to do. In the reading this week we hear that Samuel finds his purpose and his fulfilment by living in the will of God and by serving others. Prayer We pray for all those who find themselves homeless at this time.
We pray for those who are affected by the rising cost of heating their homes. We pray for all those who continue to suffer in the Ukraine and in the Middle East. St Andrew …Pray for us. St Maximilian Kolbe ….Pray for us. Amen
