Message from the Headmaster
The condensed school week meant that it was extremely busy and action-packed with fixtures, coronation activities and insightful assemblies.
Pupils in Year 8 enjoyed a workshop by the well-established author, Cliff McNish. They worked on creative gothic writing through ghost stories which aided their structure techniques and descriptive story-writing. During the week, parents in Year 8 and 9 were welcomed to a talk on the impact of social media influencers to enhance their understanding of more recent societal pressures on young people. Mr Pulford mirrored much of the presentation given to pupils and staff earlier in the term. The emphasis was on the importance of discussion, dispelling myths and highlighting positive role models.
On Friday, it was a hive of activity as we began some celebrations in advance of the coronation tomorrow. We had a Coronation cake competition with proceeds going to the Prince’s Trust; themed lunches in the dining room; themed lessons and quizzes; acrostic poems and writing competitions; and our Eco Council confirmed plans for our Coronation Garden at Forest School.
Mr Everitt
All pupils in Year 8 attended a ghost story writing workshop with author Cliff McNish on Thursday afternoon. He described the key elements of a good ghost story, and encouraged the pupils to produce their own outlines of a story which they will work on in their English lessons. It was wonderful to have an author as experienced as Cliff to teach this type of creative writing to our pupils as part of their study of gothic literature.
As part of our celebration of King Charles III’s coronation, our Senior pupils enjoyed taking part in a special coronationthemed quiz. They had to answer questions about King Charles, the Royal Family, royals in history and royal coronations. Well done to all who took part and congratulations to our winners.

Music News
It was wonderful to invite former pupil and superb organist, Thomas McLean, back to Cranmore. Mr McLean delivered a masterclass to selected pupils on our beautiful Mander pipe organ. All the pupils enjoyed the opportunity to play the organ and the session finished with a rendition of a beautiful piece by Bach played by Mr McLean.
Congratulations to Ronan who passed his Grade 6 violin during the holidays!

Winner of Year 7 Mastermind Competition
Congratulations to Cameron, the decisive winner of the Year 7 Mastermind Competition. Cameron was one of eight pupils (two from each Year 7 class) who qualified for the final. After gaining the highest score in the first round, Cameron scored maximum marks in the specialist round, choosing Greek Mythology as his subject. Cameron wins a book token as his prize. Well done to the other seven pupils: Ben C., Sam F., Oliver M., Teddy, Ollie P., Otis and Zack for making it through to the final eight!
Sport Update
It was great to kick off our cricket season last Saturday with the first rounds of The Surrey Cup. Our U13s played their match on the amazing Henderson fields, whilst the U11s played away at Downsend. In the U13s, the away team won with the scores being: Hall Grove 108-5 (25 overs)/ Cranmore 78 (23 overs). Cranmore won the U11s match: Cranmore 110-4 (20 overs)/Downsend 64 (16 overs). The U14s B team beat Thomas's Battersea A team on Tuesday whilst our U13s won 5 out of 6 matches against Rokeby on Wednesday afternoon.
Our tennis squads have also started their fixtures with friendlies and the Surrey festival taking place this week. The U14s had a great win over City of London Freemans with other matches played against schools including Hawthorns, Downsend and RGS Guildford.
For those Year 7 and 8 pupils who have chosen athletics, they have the fortunate experience of working with Josh Gorecki. Mr Gorecki is a former international athlete who now coaches athletics at Dorking and Mole Valley AC and as part of the Surrey County Athletics Association. Last Friday, our Year 8's enjoyed a session which included sprint training and running technique. Going forwards, Seniors will also be able to take part in athletics training before and after school on Fridays with Mr Gorecki. This will provide great preparation for our upcoming Athletics meets.

Month of Mary
Thought for the week:
How will you celebrate the Month of Mary?
Prayer for the Month of May
We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God; Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from every danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin. Amen.
REFLECT
In addition to the myriad feast days honouring Our Lady in her many titles and virtues, the entire month of May is especially given to her praise. May, when the earth blooms in springtime beauty, is an ideal time for our thoughts and sentiments to be directed towards this supremely lovely Queen of Heaven and Earth, who busily labours from her heavenly throne to conquer hearts, minds, and souls for the greater glory of her Son.
Let us Pray: Our Father
Hail Mary
1 minute silence
“
In order to follow Mary, you need to discern and discover what Jesus wants from you.”
Pope Francis
In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
