The sun was shining, the school looked immaculate and, as expected, pupils were exceptional in leading tours during our Open Morning on Saturday. Prospective families were overwhelmingly impressed with the quality of our facilities, the breadth of opportunities available to pupils, and the warm welcome they received from pupils, staff and members of the CPA. Thank you to everyone who helped throughout the morning in presenting Cranmore at its very best.
On Tuesday, Year 7 pupils took part in a Study Skills workshop to develop their understanding of structured study and proof reading. Throughout this term each year group will also have the opportunity to participate in different study workshops to learn the best techniques to get the most out of the time they spend preparing for assessments.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, pupils participated in team building at our Forest School developing their communication and collaboration skills to support their success both inside and outside of the classroom. Pupils and parents appreciated the Information Evening held ahead of the Geography trip to Sicily which will take place during October half-term. It promises to be an exciting expedition for Year 10 and 11 Geographers and an excellent opportunity for them to enhance their knowledge of the GCSE curriculum.

Year 7 Study Skills with Elevate Education
‘It isn’t enough that pupils simply understand what they need to do in their study; the challenge is to enable them to use and apply the skills they learn efficiently, be self-reflective and develop good habits.’
To support this aim we instruct an external company to conduct this important session, which is one of a series they will receive each year all the way to Year 11. During the session on Tuesday this week, the focus was on how to read an article efficiently and take notes, without compromising on detail. Pupils were also introduced to the concept of selective reading, where they focus on identifying key words or phrases rather than the whole text.
The presenter conducted the session with enthusiasm and clarity and pupils were very receptive to the input. We will build upon this year’s session with Time Management in Year 8, Memory Mnemonics in Year 9 and Study Sensei for Year 10 and Exam Preparation in Year 11.

Staff Community Fundraiser for Cherry Trees
We were pleased to welcome Rob and Amy from Cherry Trees this morning to our Senior Assembly. A very informative message about the charity’s work was conveyed and it is pleasing that a number of Cranmore pupils also volunteer at the centre. They were very grateful to receive over £1,700 raised by staff running the Surrey Half Marathon and 5k on 8th September. The donation will fund more than 220 hours of respite care.
Team Building Activities
All pupils took part in a very enjoyable set of team building activities this week over on our Forest School site.
Last week, our U13 football teams played against Feltonfleet. Across seven matches, Cranmore managed to win six. The form continued across Years 7 and 8 with five wins out of seven matches against Downsend. On Saturday, the Cranmore U13 squad participated in the Parkside football tournament. A brilliant performance in the event saw the team make the finals which they unfortunately narrowly lost. Both the U14s and U15s rugby teams played against Reeds. Both afternoons proved useful at this early stage of the season, with the U15s winning 24-14. Our U16s played in the first round of the National Cup against Grey Court in Richmond. It turned out to be a solid performance with Cranmore winning 38 12.
Cricket
On the 14th September, two Year 11 students graced the Home of Cricket, Lords, as they represented Esher U15s in the ECB National Final. Adam H captained the side superbly well and opened the batting at the iconic venue. Jayden F compiled a well made 50* (47) with some sublime stroke play. A truly phenomenal experience for the boys and many congratulations on a fantastic season. Everyone at Cranmore is incredibly proud of your achievements. Who knows, we may well see these two fine cricketers play on the hallowed turf in years to come.
Mr Williams
Inter Regional Championships
Year 10 pupil, Theo L competed for the South East Region at the National Triathlon Finals. Theo made it through his qualifying heat to get a place in the A final in which he finished 12 the Sunday, Theo came 7 mixed relay and the South East A team managed a podium place finishing 2 just over 50 teams. Overall the South East team had an amazing couple of days of racing and got 2 are 13 regions, finishing just behind Scotland. Theo is now preparing for the South East Academy triathlon trials and we wish him the very best of luck.
Mr Hodgson, Director of Sport
Skiing
Last weekend was the final round of the Snowsport South Championship at Aldershot. Year 9 pupil, Freddie B has been skiing very well and performed admirably at the Snowsport South Championship in Aldershot. Freddie came 5th in a strong field which was enough for him to secure 3rd place in the U14 category. Very well done.
The school ski season is firmly up and running, and this weekend, 17 skiers, ranging from Year 3 to Year 10, are racing at Aldershot in the ESSKIA national qualifiers. Good luck to all those involved.

Bible Reading
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
Reflection
This week we focus on the theme of Resilience. We know there are times when not everything goes to plan. We forget the books we need, we fall out with a friend. Things do go wrong. We may not understand how God can be in those moments. Yet we must have FAITH in Jesus as He has promised to be with us.
St Therese of Avila put it this way:
Let nothing disturb you, Let nothing frighten you, Though all things pass, God does not change. Patience wins all things. But he lacks nothing who possesses God; For God alone suffices.
Prayer
Lord, teach me to be generous: to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed the wounds; to toil and not to seek to rest; to labour and to ask for no reward.
