Message from the Headmaster
With the improvement in the weather this week, we were delighted to be able to recommence school sports fixtures including a swim gala, our rowing at Walton and skiing at Aldershot. There are some key events in January, which pupils have been learning about. Today marks Holocaust Memorial Day and our Senior School pupils have learnt about the events and their impact. 8RC presented a moving assembly reflecting on some of the experiences of those who endured persecution during the Second World War. During lessons, there was time to read the prose, ‘First they come’, by pastor Martin Niemöller highlighting the silence of intellectuals following incremental purging of groups within society. Next week, we are looking forward to our first group of Year 9 pupils who will take UKMT intermediate maths. I’m sure it will be a rewarding challenge for the pupils.
Finally, I look forward to joining Year 8 and 9 pupils across the Trust at St Teresa’s this evening to celebrate Burns Night. It promises to be an enjoyable celebration of dance and dining with just a touch of tartan.
Mr Everitt 23rd January 2023HOUSE CUP WINNERS
Congratulations to this week’s Senior Merit Winners Borelli and Stokes for gaining the highest number of merits this week.
I am thrilled that we will be welcoming back the fabulous London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC) to Cranmore on Thursday 2nd February. Choristers from St Teresa’s and members of the Cranmore Upper Prep and Senior Chamber Choirs will be invited to join the gospel choir for an afternoon workshop and then to sing along with them at the evening concert.
LCGC will be performing a 45-minute set as part of this hour-long concert. Tickets for the 7pm concert are available to parents of those children taking part.
Based on last time LCGC were here, this promises to be a really exciting and inspirational day for all involved.

Year 7 have once again began the exciting process of paper engineering! There are frustrations along the way, but there has been an energy and a hive of activity as they have experimented and explored with the potential and limitations of paper as they have cut, folded and assembled drawing inspiration from the Bauhaus paper workshops and the contemporary art of Matt Shlian.
“Congratulations to Leon G who is this week’s Star Artist. His dedication to painting the bicycle cog has resulted in a
dynamic composition with stark black and white tones.”
“
The Art, Craft and Design club has been learning how to draw their own portraits form a variety of different artistic starting points. It has been great to see their enthusiasm continue.”
Year 7 Health Talk
Mrs Smith, our School Nurse gave a talk about health (and the dangers of vaping in particular) on Tuesday. They listened with great interest. The Year 8's also had talk on the same subject.
Holocaust Assembly
Holocaust Memorial Day is the day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution, and in the genocides, which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur. Today’s assembly focused on the idea of complicity and choice. Many would argue that ordinary people involved in the Holocaust were also complicit in the genocide, for example, train drivers and camp clerks etc. They had a choice. Sometimes in life we all face choices and it can be between doing what is right and what is easy.
The CCF resplendent in their new camouflage kit, undertook a STEM challenge aimed at developing their problem solving and team working skills. The challenge was to construct a wheel barrow to transfer as much water as possible over a distance of three metres within an allotted time. The teams successfully completed the task with a range of creative solutions.
Sports Update
Despite the current difficult river conditions, our rowers have been still heading to Walton RC boathouse to use the fantastic facilities. Head of Rowing, Mr House is always on hand to check and develop the rowers' technique.
Winter cricket nets started last October and have been taking place every Monday and Tuesday lunchtime. We are very lucky to have the expertise of highly ECB qualified coaches, Mr Down, Mr WIlliams and Mr Barson.
Year 7 and Year 8 are currently participating in hockey during their PE lessons. An additional session is taking place on Fridays to allow our U13s side to best prepare for the IAPS in a few weeks.
