Message from the Headmaster
There were some excellent performances over the course of last week. Last Friday, Cranmore hosted an U10 football tournament in the evening and the following morning both Shrewsbury and Cranleigh took part in a triangular event on the Henderson fields. Our U11 team put in an incredibly spirited performance, winning the Surbiton Football Tournament while our U13 team reached the semi finals of their competition. Our ski teams delivered outstanding performances at the ESSKIA competition; both U11 and U13 teams have successfully qualified for the national finals.
On Monday, the pupils in Year 8 and Year 9 benefited from a highly informative talk from the Schools Consent Project team. I was impressed with the pertinent questions asked on the three fundamental areas of Choice, Freedom and Capacity. Equally interesting was the Year 7 Study Skills session in the afternoon to help put in place a framework of strategic planning for pupils as they progress through the Senior School.
Father Stephen was our welcomed guest on Thursday as we celebrated Mass with the Upper Prep and Senior School. We gave thanks for all that we have on this earth and focused on supporting others in the year ahead.
Tomorrow, our Open Morning promises to be the busiest on record with over 150 new families due to visit Cranmore. I would like to thank the staff for preparing the school to host our guests, to the parents involved in the morning and importantly, the pupils for giving their time to assist and take tours; they are our greatest ambassadors. Running parallel on the Henderson Fields will be our U8 and U10 tournaments with 16 teams taking part. . The U13 and U14 swim teams are also attending the Surrey Schools Secondary Team Championships in Guildford, I wish all the pupils the very best of luck it will certainly be another busy weekend.

Year 8 and 9 Consent Talk
On Tuesday 20th September, The Schools Consent Project gave a presentation to our Year 8 and Year 9 on Consent.
They used a variety of resources including games, scenarios and discussions to emphasis the main points of the talk. They also explored the idea of consent within the Catholic teaching framework on honouring the body and the breadth of the language of love.
Year 7 Study Skills
On Tuesday 20th September the Year 7 pupils took part in a Study Skills session with Elevate Education.
It isn’t enough that pupils simply understand what they need to do in their study; the challenge is to enable them to use and apply the skills they learn and be self-reflective, as they develop their intellect our value for the year.
To support this aim we instructed an external company, Elevate Education to conduct this important session. The focus was on how to take notes efficiently, without compromising on detail. Pupils were also introduced to the concept of selective reading, where they focus on identifying key words or phrases rather than the whole text.
The presenter conducted the session with enthusiasm and clarity and pupils were very receptive to the input. We will build upon this year’s session with Time Management in Year 8 and Memory Mnemonics in Year 9.

Dropping off musical instruments in the morning
Music lessons commence from 8am, so we ask parents to ensure that they enter the Auditorium building quietly if they are helping their child to drop off an instrument in the morning. If parents need to enter the Auditorium building for any other reason, they should sign in at the office. Thank you for your cooperation.

Library News
My congratulations to the following pupils who completed the Summer Reading Challenge. The challenge was to read books from as many different decades of the Queen’s reign as possible. These pupils will receive their certificates and prizes in next week’s assemblies.

Sports Roundup
It has been a very busy start to the term. Over 70 football matches have been played across age groups U8s to U14s. Our 1st VI Football team reached the semi final of the Parkside Tournament last Saturday Our U12s and U14s skiers have qualified for the Nationals in Norwich, plus our scholarship and performance session this week has included athletic development concepts. A highlight from the last few days saw our U13 sides win all 8 football matches against Downsend. Cranmore scored 55 goals in the process, whilst only conceding 7. Finally, we wish our U12 and U14 swim squads the best of the luck for the Surrey Relays tomorrow.

Servant Leadership
Thought for the week:
How do you answer the call of servant leadership?
Matthew 20:25 28
But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
REFLECTION
As we reflect on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, let us take a moment to consider the example she set to us all to lead a life of servant leadership. She was someone who truly believed that leadership meant dedicating her life to the service of others. Let us remember the pledge she made as she began her reign: “I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service ... God help me to make good my vow, and God bless all of you who are willing to share in it.”
Let us Pray: Our Father Hail Mary 1 minute silence
“Jesus taught us that he who commands must become like one who serves. Or, if one wants to be first he must be the servant of all.”
In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
