Message from the Headmaster
This week has predominantly been focused on end of year assessments for both the Prep and Senior schools with pupils off timetable. I have been impressed with their focus, resilience and determination to do their very best throughout the process and it has been encouraging to speak with pupils about keeping everything in perspective. To aid balance, assessment timetables have been configured to ensure that pupils continue with sport and extracurricular activities.
On Friday, I highlighted the cycle and flow of life at Cranmore, reminding them that they should take time over the half-term break to rest and recharge for the second half of term. It promises to be very active and engaging with trips, sports days, excursions and year group activities planned before the end of the academic year.
I would like to thank the CPA for their hard work in arranging social events in the calendar this term. We have a night of musical entertainment and socialising for parents at Cranfest on 8th June, the fun-filled Colour Run for pupils in Years 7 and 8 on 14th June, and our annual Crancamp on 29th June which always proves to be a very popular event. I wish you all a restful break over the half-term.
Mr Everitt 20 MAY 2024Senior Assembly
During Friday’s assembly, Mr Everitt talked about the learning cycle, encouraging the boys to rest over the halfterm break in order to return to school refreshed and ready for a strong second half of the summer term. He referred to the different cycles which happen in many different spheres of life, from the human life cycle to the political cycle to the sporting cycle. The boys were asked to reflect on the different phases of the learning cycle, all of which are important for their long-term academic success.
On Saturday, Our U13A cricket team played in the latest round of the Surrey Cup at home on the Henderson. The opponents, Shrewsbury House, batted first and as the result of very effective bowling by Cranmore, scored 71. In the second innings, Cranmore batted very well chasing the score down with two over to spare and only losing 4 wickets. This now means Cranmore are through to the Surrey Cup semi-final. At the same time on the paddock, the U13B team had a convincing win over the Shrewsbury House U13B team.
Monday saw 'Crangusta' in action again, with another home golf match against Bromswood- please see report below by Head of Golf, Mr Cox. Our U12s played against St Teresa's in tennis matches on Wednesday. The competitive matches took place at Surrey Sports Park. Also on Wednesday, Cranmore hosted a swimming gala for U8s through to U13s against Kings House. The result was a very convincing win for Cranmore.
Golf
On Monday, our U13 Golf team played our second home match of the season, at the Cranmore Golf Course on the Henderson, Crangusta. Six boys from Years 6, 7 & 8 represented the team in a closely contested match against Broomwood school on our very own, 6-hole course. Cranmore had some fantastic individual performances and won the match by 12 shots.
If you are in Year 6, 7 or 8 and are interested in representing the U13 Golf team, please let me know. Playing in the matches is a fantastic way to learn more about the game and experience playing in a competitive but enjoyable environment.
