Message from the Headmaster
One of the highlights of this week was the inspirational music workshop with the London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC). From humble beginnings, in 1982 LCGC came together to spread an important message of peace and unity in diversity through music and faith. Pioneering the sound of British Gospel Music, they soon rose to fame, and went on to become Europe’s leading Gospel brand and one of the most in-demand choirs across the continents of the globe. Pupils from across the Trust had the privilege of being taught by outstanding vocalists throughout the afternoon followed by a collaborative evening performance from the pupils and LCGC in the Auditorium. It was an uplifting and memorable evening of entertainment for pupils, staff and parents.
Last week, Trust pupils experienced Burns Night at St Teresa’s, an action-packed evening of dancing, speeches and dining with all the pupils getting an opportunity to taste traditional Scottish dishes. I would like to congratulate the boys who took part in the Rotary Debating Competition this week. The judges were very complimentary in their feedback and the pupils gained valuable experience in presenting and debating with other schools. I was delighted to see some of our Year 9 pupils taking on the role of Reading Buddy for younger children. It is a wonderful opportunity to draw attention to the importance of reading and for pupils from across the school to interact with each other, act as positive role models and be reading mentors.

Gospel Choir
This year’s Cranmore Live featured the fabulous London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC), led by Bazil Meade (MBE). Bazil and three members of LCGC worked with 86 children from both Cranmore and St Teresa’s in an afternoon workshop. Bazil explained the history of gospel music and worked on several songs with the pupils, including ‘Freedom’ and ‘This Little Light of Mine’. They then performed those songs as part of the evening concert. We were also treated to a fantastic set from LCGC and their band. The sheer power and intensity from their singing really was something to behold. It was wonderful to see a packed Auditorium and so many smiles on so many faces. LCGC received a well-deserved standing ovation at the end of their final number, ‘Oh Happy Day’. My thanks to the staff from both schools for their support in making Cranmore Live a great success.
Rotary Debate
On Wednesday evening, three Senior pupils - Jamie B, Oliver W and Cavell Wtook part in the Rotary Debating Competition held at St Teresa’s. They presented their debate, entitled ‘We’re doomed, we’re finished, there is no turning back the clock on climate change’ in front of a panel of Rotary judges and a packed audience of parents, teachers and pupils from other competing schools. The Cranmore pupils spoke eloquently on their topic, injecting an effective balance of thorough research, powerful anecdotes and disarming humour to win over the crowd. Whilst they were pipped to the post by their highly persuasive counterparts from St Teresa’s, the Cranmore team was praised by the judges for taking hold of the evening ‘by the scruff of its neck’ with their natural debating presence. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their first experience of debating and are already planning next year’s return. A very well done to them all; they are star debaters in the making!
Burns Night
To celebrate Burns Night, an event was held on Friday evening. Dressed up in a touch of Tartan Year 8 & 9 pupils from both Cranmore and St Teresa’s were given the opportunity to try Haggis, a traditionally Scottish dish, as well as learn some traditional Scottish dances. The hall was filled with laughter as the pupils enjoyed a night of dinner, dancing and fun!
Sports Update
There have been some great rugby fixtures against Aldo, Highfield and Box Hill. Plus, good to finally get rowing back on the water.
Games and Activities Lunchtime Extravaganza - Thursday 9th February - Barbados Tour Fund Raising and Harlequins Foundation
To coincide with Children’s Mental Health Week, we are pleased to share that there will be a games and activities extravaganza taking place during lunch break on Thursday 9th February. Funds raised are going towards the Year 9 Barbados Tour and a Harlequins RFC Foundation programme, called 'Rugby in a Box' This initiative involves raising money to buy sports equipment which will help the development of rugby teams in some of the poorest African countries as well as in the UK.
The event will be organised and run by Year 9 pupils and sports staff. Upper Prep and Senior pupils are asked to bring in no more than £3 to spend on the many games and activities on offer.

Congratulations to Henry C-B (8RC) who has passed the all-important Grade 5 Theory of Music examination. This result now allows Henry to access the higher practical grades on his two instruments. Bravo!

Lord Jesus Christ, You are the true Light enlightening every soul born into this world. As we celebrate the feast of Candlemas, help us realise each time we see the blessed candles at Holy Mass, or at the bedside of the sick, that they are a symbol of Yourself, the Light shining in the darkness of this world. Help us to live in that Light, to make it our own, and to kindle it in the souls of others. Amen.
