UCAS TRIP

We were delighted to take the Year 12s on a trip to the University of Surrey for the UCAS Fair. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to meet face-to-face with representatives from over 50 universities and employers, giving them the chance to explore degree courses and apprenticeship opportunities first-hand.

This is just one of the many highlights in our programme supporting National Careers Week 2025.

BOARDING NEWS

This week has been filled with star gazing, a close encounter with an escape room and celebrating ‘World Boarding Staff Day’.

On Friday evening, the boarders took to the skies for some exciting planet hunting. Using their phones for extra guidance, they successfully spotted Mars, Venus, and a host of other planets and constellations, much to their delight.!

On Saturday, the boarders were in Guildford for a day of teamwork and problem-solving. They faced the challenge of an escape room, where their collective effort paid off as they managed to break out with just two minutes remaining on the clock an impressive achievement! After their escape room success, the group enjoyed some live street music and indulged in a little shopping along Guildford’s high street, rounding off the day with plenty of laughter and good memories.

WORLD BOOK DAY

This week, we have been celebrating World Book Week! As part of our celebrations, we welcomed author Kathryn Evans, who visited us and gave some inspiring talks about her work and writing journey. Our pupils were captivated by her stories and insights into the world of literature. Kathryn also hosted a creative writing workshop for some of our most enthusiastic writers, encouraging them to explore their imagination and improve their craft.

On Thursday, our catering team once again put on a stunning display of book and literature-themed goodies for lunch. The creative treats were a visual delight, and the students thoroughly enjoyed the delicious spread! It was a wonderful week filled with learning, creativity, and a love of reading.

UKMT INTERMEDIATE MATHS CERTIFICATES

Congratulations to all sixty-six pupils across Years 9 to 11 who participated in the UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge last month. Thirty-one pupils achieved an award, ranging from gold, silver, and bronze. Particular congratulations go to Kaitlyn C, Katharine R, Madison B, Yi Chun H, Ziying L, Isabel C, Nga Yin I, Isabella K, Ching Nam L, Khanyisile N, and Cara S for their silver awards. In Year 11, an incredible 74% of entries secured an award. Special mention goes to Katy H, Xieyi L, and Cheuk Chi L for their gold awards, placing them in the top 8% of entries nationally. The competition does not stop here, as these pupils progress to the follow-on round later this month. Spring is here!

It has been such a wonderful treat to have such stunning weather this week. The ponies have been enjoying basking in the sun and frolicking in the fields.

Summer Term Riding and Pony Stars Sessions

We are putting our schedules in place for the Summer Term riding lessons and the Challenge Awards (Pony Stars for younger riders). Even if your child doesn’t ride with us, the Pony Stars is a wonderful and immersive way for the children to spend time with the ponies and learn more about them. We have availability on a Friday at 4pm or Saturday at 2pm. Sessions last an hour. If you are interested, please contact the office.

Pony Stars – the Junior Challenge Award (ages 5-11)

The aim of Pony Stars is to encourage pupils to discover, develop and nurture their love for ponies and the outdoors.

As part of the programme, each student will receive their own ‘My Challenge’ book to log their achievements. As they progress through the various challenges, there will be stickers, badges rosettes available to keep pupils engaged and motivated.

There are four levels which enable long-term progression and a range of activities: *Shetland Striders *Dartmoor Dazzlers *Welshie Wizzers *Connemara Champs

In each group, pupils will work through sets of challenges that make up topics within set themes. At STE, these fun, interactive hour-long sessions are delivered in a group setting and are an ideal way for pupils to make friends and to learn in a group environment.

Bible Reading

A Reading from St Paul’s letter to the Ephesians

Never have grudges against others, or lose your temper, or raise your voice to anybody, or call each other names, or allow any sort of spitefulness. Be friends with one another, and kind, forgiving each other as readily as God forgave you in Christ. imitate God as children of his that he loves and follow Christ, loving as he loved you.

Reflection

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, we had our service this week. For many, our first reaction when we hear Lent is to ask, ‘What are you giving up?’ with the usual answer being sweets, chocolate, cake, and other treats. This is often the way we introduce the idea to young children, but perhaps, as we grow, our understanding of Lent should also grow.

During Lent we are asked to do three things, to fast, to pray and to give. We were encouraged to reflect with deep honesty about three possible areas of our lives where we could focus our hearts and minds this Lent.

By focusing in this way we can make sure that we use this season of Lent to leave behind that which hinders us, and to work towards becoming the people we are called to be. Have a good Lent!

Prayer

Lord,

as we begin this holy season of Lent, may we turn back to you with all our hearts, in prayer, in fasting, and in giving alms to the poor; that our sins be forgiven and our hearts mended.

Amen
