12th February, 2013 Reflection Lent is a time when we prepare as a faith community to meet the risen Christ at Easter. It is a time for us to turn away from what keeps us from living the Gospel, and to remind ourselves that we are called to live lives based on justice. To be just in the biblical sense is to be in right relationship with God. As we prepare to meet Christ in his resurrected glory, we pray for a change of heart towards greater love of God and each other and we share our food, our wealth and our time with others in need. God of love and truth, you called us forth from the dust of earth and claimed us for Christ in the waters of baptism. Look upon us as we enter these forty days bearing the mark of ashes. Bless us on our journey through Lent to the waters of rebirth. May our fasting be a hunger for justice; our alms, a making of peace; our prayer, the chant of humble and grateful hearts. All that we do and pray is in the name of Jesus, for in his cross you proclaim your love now and forever. Amen
‘Whatever it takes’- CRC Melton style
Traffic movement in Bulmans Road
The media has been full of stories in relation to the ‘Drugs in Sport’ over the past week and it is hard not to reflect on the issue. The motivation of athletes to win an AFL Premiership, Olympic Gold Medal or Tour de France is such, that they will do whatever it takes to win. Sadly this means illicit substances for some athletes. I pine for the time when we trained to perform at our best and ‘win, lose or draw’ gained enormous benefits in striving to win. As the saying goes ‘Winning is nice if you don't lose your integrity in the process.’ For our students here at CRC Melton, our coaches will train and coach our teams to do the best they can ie their personal and team best. If they win a Premiership, well done- if they play each week to the best of their ability, striving to win but don’t, that’s a worthwhile pursuit.
Thanks for your cooperation with the changed arrangements at the front of the College. The separation of the school buses from the pedestrian area seems to be working well. Peak time at drop and pick up times will always be busy, so we can only do our best with the strategies mentioned in last week’s newsletter. The City of Melton has further plans for Bulmans Road in the next few years, including a roundabout at Sovereign Boulevard and eventually duplication of the road.
Industrial action - Thursday February 14
The Annual College Working Bee will be held on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd March. This weekend has always been well attended by both parents, students and staff working together to complete various jobs around the College, including landscaping and maintenance projects.
Parents will have noted in the media that Industrial action has been planned by the AEU this Thursday. As we have relatively few staff taking industrial action, there will be no disruption to classes here at CRC, so all students are expected to attend school. My hope is this long- running dispute can be resolved as soon as possible.
Parents and Friends Our first meeting for 2013 is on Wednesday February 27th starting at 7.30pm. All welcome, especially parents new to the school. College Working Bee
