12th July, 2016 Reflection Peace Within May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you May you be confident knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us. (- attributed to St. Thérèse of Lisieux and St. Theresa of Avila)

Dear Parents and Students, A warm welcome back to all members of the school community. Sr Sheila Flynn OP, a Dominican sister, (pictured below) was a keynote speaker at the Catholic Principals of Australia Conference held in Melbourne during the school holidays. Sr Sheila is Director of Kopanang Centre South Africa. This centre is a home for African women suffering from the HIV/AIDS virus. She is a practicing artist and her work has been exhibited in South Africa, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, India, Switzerland and the United States. Responding to the deep need for women’s empowerment within a climate of HIV/AIDS where loss and struggle are part of everyday life, Sr Sheila founded the Kopanang Community Trust (situated 55 km south east of Johannesburg), a project that addresses these critical needs in life-giving and creative ways, within the context of a faith-building community. Two regular sayings at the Kopanang Community are: ‘Today I thank God for another day of living’ ‘Today, I choose to be happy’ For more information on the Kopanang Community Trust go to www.kopanang.org If you would like to see The Canticle of the Universe, a series of tapestries created by the Kopanang Community ,there is a display at Sacred Heart College, Kyneton on Thursday July 28 (Information can be found on the last page of this newsletter). NAIDOC weeks celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements, and recognising Indigenous Australians' contributions to our country. To celebrate NAIDOC week Jack Whitehurst, 12B, VCAL student designed the banner that hangs at the entrance to the College. Wominjeka means ‘welcome’ in the Woiwurrung language of our local Wurundjeri people. Best wishes for Term 3. Mark Sheehan Principal

The Annual Winter Sleep out Friday August 5th

More than 22,000 people in Victoria are considered homeless, with almost 6000 of these being under the age of 18. The Winter sleep out provides us with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of homelessness and how it effects people’s lives. The Sleep out lets us experience in a very small way what it would be like to be homeless while also raising awareness and funds that will be donated to St. Vincent De Paul. If you cannot attend but would like to donate, leave donations with the office. The details are as follows: 7.00pm - arrival at school on Friday night, dinner provided, guest speakers and activities 7.00am - Saturday morning departure after breakfast and debrief If interested contact Ms. Rowe-Watts Last year we raised $3000.00, let’s see if we can beat that amount this year and aim for $3500.00 Artist in Residence Mural During the last week of Term 2 we hosted our artists in residence Christine Sage and Regina Byrne from Hullabaloo. They came in to create a mural with a group of our Year 8 students. The mural was created using household paint and the students ragged the paint onto the wall under Christine's guidance. The 25 students did a fantastic job and worked so hard and efficiently that the bulk of the painting was done in a day. This landscape mural is a welcoming sight for those walking from the new Gadal building back into the main area of the school and has revived a tired, boring brick wall. The landscape is of a sunset and is a reflection of the view you may have once seen as you looked across the property behind CRC Melton right through to Bacchus Marsh when the school was first built. A huge congratulations to Mrs Trish Griffin and her Year 8 art class on an awesome effort that you can all be proud of for years to come. Amy Rowley Head of Art

Senior girls netball The Senior girls netball once again competed in the SACCSS sports against the other Catholic Colleges in Division 1. Our team was very successful throughout the season and only lost one game making it through to the grand final. The girls put in a great effort in the final but were unfortunately outplayed by MacKillop College on the day. A big congratulations to all the girls for all their effort and hard work to get as far as they did. We'll get them next year! Amy Rowley and Lauren Hill Senior Netball Coaches.

This year the congress went for 3 days in which we were put into issue groups to discuss a topic we as students, face in our schools. Students from all over Victoria came together to actively shape the future of our education. On the first night a gala dinner was held to celebrate the coming together of the students from different schools; this years theme was a masquerade carnival. During this mesmerising night the students were given a live performance from circus performers to help celebrate the theme. During the second day we were split back into our issue groups to prepare for the lightening lobby session on the third and final day. On the second night, the VicSRC held the election for the future executors, in which our own Chloe Laurel applied. She was very nervous and thought she had no chance in getting the position, but when Chloe did her speech she amazed everyone by crumpling up her speech she had been writing since day one and going with her heart on how she felt about the VicSRC. On the third day the 2016-2017 VicSRC Executives were announced and we are proud to say that Chloe will be on the team representing CRC Melton, living up to the legacy that Victoria Vassallo has left for her. Not only was congress an amazing experience it allowed me to meet new people and listen to experiences from other schools that don’t have the same privileges as us, I have made some good friends in which I plan to keep in touch with. We wish Chloe all the best in her new role in the VicSRC . Julie De Domenico Fitzgerald House Captain

Pencils of DOOM‌

Last Semester the Pencil of Doom members explored Mosaics and created their own Monsters. They have been a great group of kids and everyone seems to have had lots of fun building and creating. That’s the end of Pencils of Doom for this year. Look out for the Art Club in 2017 with a brand new program. Cheers Ms Jones
