13th June, 2017 Reflection Prayer for Strength and Energy My Lord and my strength, I pray that I may possess that expectancy which comes in joyous hope and have the endurance that is controlled by courage and energy. Grant in the future that I may be less concerned about my living and more anxious for what I make of my life. Amen

Dear Parents and Friends, In 2017, the Parish Priests and the CRC College Executive were invited by the Archdiocese of Melbourne to consider hosting some Religious Sisters, with a teaching background, in the Parishes of Melton, Melton South and Bacchus Marsh. A Dominican Order of religious nuns, the Sisters of St Cecilia were interested in having a presence in schools in this region, and the conversation with the Sisters has continued over the past six months. One of the main aspects of the Charism of The Sisters of St Cecilia is that they are a teaching order. I have received correspondence last week confirming that two Sisters will join us here on the teaching staff at CRC Melton next year. Having the sisters working in our school community fits in well with our Catholic Identity. St Dominic founded the Dominican Order over 800 years ago and St Catherine of Siena was a tertiary in the Dominican Order. We warmly welcome Sister Mary Rachel Capets OP and Sister Anastasia Reeves OP to our teaching staff at CRC Melton. We look forward to opportunities for the school community to meet with them as they commence their work at CRC Melton. An update from Stephen Elder, the Director of Catholic Education in Melbourne, on the proposed funding to schools is included in this newsletter. Last week Stephen and Directors of other Dioceses around Australia appeared before the Senate Education and Employment Legislation Committee which has begun hearings into the changes to the Australian Government’s funding model. Concerns have already been raised at this hearing about the model used to determine parental capacity to contribute to the education of their children. I have been in contact with our Federal Member for Gorton, Brendan O’Connor and I encourage parents to email his office with their concerns about future Catholic school funding. From the Deputy Principal (Staff) We wish all our Year 9, 10 and Year 11 VCE students well with their exams over the next weeks. A reminder that Year 10 and Year 11 VCE students only have to attend school for their exam as no classes will operate. However, there will be supervised study rooms available for students to use who are here. Bacchus Marsh Buses There has been some concern about procedures for students boarding Bacchus Marsh buses last week. Students have been asked to place their bags under the bus for their travels due to the misbehaviour of some students on the buses. Whilst this is new for our buses it is the norm if travelling on Ballarat school buses. Mr Blackley and I have spoken with both drivers and students regarding this. Safety on the bus is paramount and all students are expected to abide by the bus rules in regards to behaviour and food. Hopefully when these issues are resolved we will return to normal bus arrangements. Semester 2 Subject / Electives Changes - Last week Year 11 students’ requests for Semester 2 Subject changes must first go to Mrs Jakobovic or Mrs Dickson. Once a pathway plan has been approved students can complete a Change of Subject Form. Students must first talk to their subject teacher before requesting a time to meet with Mrs Jakobovic or Mrs Dickson. All changes must be applied for and processed by June 20. All Year 10 and Year 9 students have received copies of their Semester 2 electives. After reviewing with parents, requests for changes to Semester 2 electives must be emailed to me - Mr Christie at (jchristie@crcmelton.com.au) until June 16. In the email students need to nominate the electives they wish to change from and change to, along with a reason. I will then email students times to follow up on requests. Note that all changes are subject to blocking clashes, class sizes and selection requirements. Work Experience We wish all our Year 10s the best on their work experiences on the last week of term (June 26 – 30). This experience is always valuable as it either reinforces the chosen pathway is the correct one for that student or tells them that they may need to rethink their best pathway options. Either way it assists when our Year 10 students choose their 2018 VCE / VCAL Pathways and subjects next term. VCE Unit 3 / Year 12 VCAL Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews Thanks to all families that attended. If you missed an interview, please feel free to contact teachers via email. John Christie

Language What a wonderful week it has been for Languages at CRC Melton. After spending a fantastic day at Melbourne University last Friday with our Year 9, 10 and 11 students, reciting their poems beautifully, we received exciting news that Raya Quader and Dylan Hassan, both in Year 10, have been invited to return to the university as finalists. We wish Raya and Dylan all the best of luck! We are so proud of this amazing achievement. Their day of competition is next term. Our term will end with the Year 8 students, studying Italian, visiting the Calabria Club in Bulla and the Indonesian students will attend the Royal Melbourne Zoo. Please ensure care monkey has been updated in order for all students to attend. Buona fortuna! The Languages Team
