13th October, 2015 Reflection The Way of Christ Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are the poor in spirit; the reign of God is theirs.’ Give us the spirit of poverty and humility. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest too are the sorrowing; they shall be consoled.’ Teach us to share the tears of our brothers and sisters. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth.’ Give us a heart that is humble and true. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are they who hunger and thirst for justice; they shall have their fill.’ Give us souls that thirst for justice. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are they who show mercy; mercy shall be theirs.’ Open our hearts with love for our brothers and sisters. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.’ Enlighten our eyes with your splendour. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest too are the peacemakers; they shall be called children of God.’ Make us people of peace and joy. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are those persecuted for righteousness’ sake; the reign of God is theirs.’ Make us strong in standing for what is right. Fr Lucien Deiss

Year 12 Graduation

Whitten Project

Best wishes to Year 12 students as they complete their last week of classes.

On Monday evening, Rob Blackley, had the opportunity to attend the Whitten Project Graduation held at the Western Bulldogs Centre to witness two of our Year 10 students, Billy Metters and Matthew Spiteri, graduate.

On Thursday, we are conducting a Final Assembly for Year 12 students and a number of Awards will be presented.

On Tuesday evening at 7pm, the Year 12 Graduation Mass is being held at St Catherine's Church.

Billy was one of the MCs for the evening and the winner of the You Inspire me Award. This award is a peer nominated award for the person who shows great leadership and most epitomises the values of the project. Billy pipped Matthew by one vote for the award. As a College community we are justly proud of their achievements and congratulate them.

We look forward to these important rituals, and the students finishing up in good style at CRC.

Mark Sheehan Principal

Next Tuesday morning the College is hosting a breakfast for our Year 12 students from 7.30am.

Parents & Friends The next meeting of the Parents & Friends will be held on Wednesday 28th October at 7.30pm.

Whitten Project

2016 Subject Selections

The Whitten Project is an education program designed for young aspiring community leaders across Victoria’s western region to develop life, civic and employability skills through high value experiential leadership opportunities offered through the Western Bulldogs Football Club and its partner agencies.

Due to a delay in finalising 2016 Year 11 and Year 12 subjects, our current Year 8 and 9 students will not be interviewed until next week to finalise their Year 9 / 10 electives for 2016. Once completed 2016 Year 9 and Year 10 initial confirmation letters will be sent home. Front of College

Developed and delivered by the Western Bulldogs, this seven-month capacity building initiative was delivered in collaboration with Brimbank, Glenelg, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton and Moonee Valley councils, AFL, AFL Victoria, Netball Victoria, Sport and Recreation Victoria, Victoria University and the Western Region Football League. Practical and classroom based workshops were delivered across a range of elite sporting environments including the AFL, Western Bulldogs and the Melbourne Vixens where the young people explored leadership styles and learn valuable life-skills including self-awareness, relationships, goal setting, resilience, support networks, team work, developing people and encouraging others through presentations from high profile guest presenters including Dale Morris, Ben Graham, Jason McCartney, Kylie Watson-Wheeler and Bianca Chatfield. Young leaders worked closely with their local councils throughout The Whitten Project to develop civic leadership skills and were encouraged to complete a Community Leadership Project within their local community. The project is an annual project aimed at Year 9 and 10 students and nominations will be taken for the 2016 early next year.

2015 CRC Wishing Tree

Uniform Shop Closure

The Festive Season is coming soon – for most, that is. This is the time of year when we extend our compassion to those in our own community. The Wishing tree is a chance for us to help bring a little Christmas cheer and Christian Charity to those who are experiencing some hardship in their lives. Each class (7 – 10) is being asked to put together a collection of gifts / hamper for a particular family. The hampers are then delivered or picked up by the family at the end of the year. “There is nothing better than delivering a hamper to an un-expecting family and to see the smile it brings. That is the best reward”. Any Year 11s or 12s wishing to contribute can drop off items at their coordinators office. They will be added to the hampers.

Please be advised that the Uniform shop will be closed this Wednesday 14th October.

Soup van visit this Friday This is our last visit to the soup van for the year. Any donations of clothing, blankets, hats, beanies, toiletries will be gratefully accepted and joyfully distributed on Friday night. Head Lice Head lice may become a common problem. If a student has head lice we ask parents to inform the College and take the appropriate action. Further information can be obtained on www.dhs.vic.gov.au/phd/headlice Host Family Needed! Student Exchange Australia New Zealand is looking for a volunteer host family for a 17 year old German girl who arrived in July 2015 and is currently attending Catholic Regional College. She is a cheerful person interested in sport, baking, nature, improving her English and learning about the Australian culture. Together with her host family she would love to experience new activities and simply be part of her host family’s daily life. We are looking for a family able to host her until the end of April 2016. If you can help, please phone Melissa at the Student Exchange Office: 1300 135 331. Thank you very much for your help.

College Phones When phoning the College there will now be an option of pressing 1 to leave a message regarding Student absence. Full name, homeroom and reason for absence of student is required. VCE Student Folio Exhibition The Art Faculty invite all Parents/Guardians and friends to view Catholic Regional College Melton’s annual VCE Exhibition. On display will be works completed throughout 2015 by our Year 11 and Year 12 students. The work has been produced to meet the VCE study design for the subjects of Media Studies, Studio Art, Visual Communication Design & Materials Technology Food/Wood. Official Opening: Thursday 22 October at 7 - 9pm in the Performing Arts Centre. Exhibition will also be open Friday 23 October from 9am - 4pm. All year levels are welcome. This is a great opportunity to take a closer look at the work produced at VCE if you are considering choosing any of these subjects in the next few years. We look forward to seeing you there. Amy Rowley Head of Art

Overseas travel with student groups One of the main criteria for overseas trips, which is supported by the school, is that families need to make a substantial financial contribution for their child to go. One would assume if a family could make that contribution, then they would be up to date with their school fees. Process for students interested in travelling on CRC Overseas trips Once an initial list of students interested is drawn up, those names are emailed to the Finance Office, who will determine who is eligible to proceed in the selection process. The second part of the process will be started once the school is satisfied that families have the capacity to pay their school fees firstly and secondly, their contribution to the overseas travel.
