14th October, 2014 Reflection Who is Blessed ? Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’ (Matthew 5:3) Give us the spirit of poverty and humility. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest too are the sorrowing; they shall be consoled.’ Teach us to share the tears of our brothers and sisters. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth.’ Give each of us a heart that is humble and true. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are they who hunger and thirst for justice; they shall have their fill.’ Give us souls that thirst for justice. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are they who show mercy; mercy shall be theirs.’ Open our hearts with love for our brothers and sisters. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.’ Enlighten our eyes with your splendour. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest too are the peacemakers; they shall be called children of God.’ Make us people of peace and joy. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are those persecuted for righteousness’ sake; the reign of God is theirs.’ Make us strong in standing for what is right. (Adapted from Fr Lucien Deiss ‘The Way of Christ’) Lord, thank you for the invitation to life with you. May all those we meet feel this same welcome. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

The recent anniversary of the Bali bombings in 2002 was mentioned in the media on the weekend. Along with recent news regarding evil acts perpetrated by ISIS in Iraq, the question is often posed: "What do Catholics say about this?" According to author Michael McGirr…. Catholics do not believe that such actions are part of God’s plan. We believe they are the result of evil. Humans are capable of truly inhuman actions. We can cause each other profound suffering. God does not prevent that suffering. All of us have free will and God does not compromise that, however painful the result can sometimes be. God continually asks us to use our freedom for good. This is one reason why Catholics do not believe in capital punishment, even for terrorists. We believe that God never stops knocking even on the most closed heart. And we believe that, on the cross, Jesus shares our suffering. He understands what it means to not understand. Parents & Friends Meeting There will be a Parents & Friends meeting Wednesday, 29th October at 7.30pm.
