15th March, 2016 Reflection St Patrick's Day (Thursday 17th March) God our Father, You sent Saint Patrick to preach your glory to the people of Ireland. By the help of his prayers, may all Christians proclaim your love to all men. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Dear Parents and students, CRC Melton Memorial Garden Parents may remember that we planned to consolidate our CRC Memorial spaces as landscaping work was being completed around the school in the past six months. Names of staff and students who passed on during their time at CRC were previously displayed at the front of the school and also near the Gymnasium. A Memorial Garden space has now been created on the wall of the Chapel. Motivational aids to Student Achievement You will find pictured below two of the many motivational signs up around the school. The first one in the Padua Building for Year 12s says … Achievement does not require extraordinary ability. Achievement comes from ordinary abilities applied with extraordinary persistence. Keep the Faith and keep up the Effort. Your Persistence will get you there. -Ralph Marston The second sign is on the Entrance to the Gadal building- it sets the pattern for all students entering the building Notice to all students Leave the excuses at the door. If you didn’t do your homework, just admit it. If you didn’t understand the assignment, ask for help. If you didn’t study for the test, accept the grade and resolve to do better (with my help if necessary) next time. If you refuse to follow my rules, accept the consequences. This is not a democracy. This is MY classroom: and I’m here for one reason and one reason only: To teach you, to Inspire you, to help you grow. I’ll do my part. The rest is up to you. Parent/student/teacher interviews I look forward to seeing many parents/guardians at school next Tuesday and Wednesday. Mark Sheehan Principal

John Christie Deputy Principal (Staff) Partners in Parenting Program We have recently been invited by Monash University to participate in their Partners in Parenting Program that is designed to prevent depression and anxiety in teenagers. In discussions with the Principal, Level Coordinators and school counsellors we are supportive of the program, therefore invite you to participate in the program if your son or daughter is between 12 and 15 years of age. The FREE online parenting program empowers parents to make sense of adolescence and parent their teenager with confidence. As children become teenagers, it can be hard for parents to know the best way to stay connected with their child. Partners in Parenting is a new online parenting program that has been shown to help improve parent-child communication and reduce family conflict. Through interactive online activities, parents can develop skills in emotional intelligence, supporting their teenager through difficulties they face, and maintaining a close relationship with their teen. This program was developed by researchers at Monash University and the University of Melbourne, and is based on Parenting Guidelines that were published in partnership with beyondblue, and have been accessed and found helpful by thousands of parents worldwide. Researchers are currently evaluating the longer-term benefits of the program by offering parents in Australia the opportunity to try it for free. If you are a parent or guardian of a child aged 12 to 15, you may be eligible to participate. Participation will take a few hours of yours and your child’s time over 12 months. Both you and your child will be reimbursed for your time. Find out more or register at www.partnersinparenting.net.au, or contact the researchers at med-partnersinparenting@monash.edu or on (03) 9905 1250 Robert Blackley Deputy Principal
