16th August, 2016 Reflection Psalm 62 I wait patiently for God to save me; I depend on him alone. He alone protects and saves me; he is my defender, and I shall never be defeated. I depend on God alone; I put my hope in him. He alone protects and saves me; he is my defender, and I shall never be defeated.

Dear Parents and Students, Child Safe Policy Over the past weeks the College has been preparing to meet the new State Standards in Child Safety. These are part of the outcomes from the 2013 Victorian Parliament Inquiry into the Handling of Child Abuse by Religious and Other Non -Government Organisations, resulting in the Betrayal of Trust Report. The report found that more could be done to strengthen existing approaches to child safety. In response, the Victorian Government is phasing in child safe standards for organisations that work with children, including schools. The Minister for Education has set out in Ministerial Order No. 870 specific actions schools need to take to meet the child safe standards. An information sheet “Safety at Your Child’s school” is available on the College’s website along with our Child Safe Policy and Staff Code of Conduct. We encourage all parents to read the information sheet (produced by the Victorian Registrations and Qualifications Authority) and College Policy. Should you have any questions about the information sheet, College Policy or Code of Conduct please contact the College. Out of Africa night I am looking forward to attending the Taste of Africa evening this Thursday. The night will be showcasing everything African, including delicious foods prepared by staff, students and some parents, music, drumming, dancing and talks about African culture. Staff Service Day Friday, August 19 is the College’s Staff Service Day. The College will be closed as staff undertake various social justice activities. Mark Sheehan Principal

Parents & Friends There will be a Parent & Friends meeting on Wednesday 31st August at 7.30pm.

2017 Subject Selections Year 9 students are now selecting their Year 10 subjects for 2017. These must be finalised and submitted to their Homeroom Tutor by Thursday, August 18. Year 8 students and families please note that our 2017 Gadal Information evening is on Tuesday, August 23 starting at 7pm in the Hall. John Christie Deputy Principal (Staff) Whitten Project Two Year 10 students, Boden Mugridge and Madeleine Rizzo, have been involved in the Whitten Project this year. The project offers unique opportunities for young people to build confidence, make new friendships and develop skills that will enable them to become future leaders in their community. The project offers practical and theory based activities designed to enhance participant’s capacities in: leadership, teamwork, communication, goal setting, support networks, resilience and community engagement. Boden and Madeleine are involved, with the City of Melton and the Western Bulldogs, in the organisation and promotion of the Walk the West day on 3rd September 10am-1pm to be held in Melton. The walk begins at Melton Youth Services, it is a gold coin donation to participate with the funds being used to support young people suffering with mental illness. You don't have to be a Bulldogs supporter to be involved. Robert Blackley Deputy Principal (Students) Re-enrolment 2017 During Term 3 a formal re-enrolment process will take place. This process enables the College to comply with a CEO requirement regarding enrolment data which is due in Term 4. The actual enrolment prediction for the 2017 school year will influence the recurrent funding for the College. To ensure you do not jeopardise your child’s re-enrolment we would appreciate all fee payments and Thanksgiving envelopes being brought up to date. School Improvement Surveys 2016 - Have your say We are seeking your participation in school improvement surveys to help shape the ongoing improvement of our school for the students in our care. The survey will be available from Monday 29th August, 2016. Our School Improvement Report is an invaluable resource in our ongoing pursuit of improvement. This helps us to identify what is going well and not so well and the ways in which we can improve and further develop our school. We would therefore greatly appreciate your continued support by completing the survey this year. If you are willing to complete the survey please email: kmatthews@crcmelton.com.au to receive the survey information. World Youth Day An article written by Jonathan Antony who attended World Youth Day can be found on the College website under Latest News.
