16th September, 2014 Reflection The Mystery and Power of the Cross The Cross is the central symbol of the Christian faith. It reminds us of the depth of God’s love, of Jesus’ suffering and death, as well as his resurrection. It is the symbol of God’s victory over death. God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost, but may have eternal life. For God sent his Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but so that through him the world might be saved. (Jn 3:16-17)

2015 Senior Student Leaders Over the last fortnight the Year 11 students and staff have cast their votes for the 2015 College Captains and student leaders. The Year 10 students have also been involved in the process by electing Deputy Student Leaders. The following students have been elected for 2015, congratulations to all students and we look forward to working with them next year. The process of College Captains required the candidates to present to the Year 11 cohort and staff. The caliber of each of the candidates was extremely high and made the choice very difficult. There will be a formal investiture of the 2015 Student leaders early Term 4.

Over the weekend, three enormously talented CRC students represented the College at the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Gala, which was staged at the Palais Theatre, St Kilda. Enormous congratulations to Brydie Gleeson, Dylan Naumovski and Jacinta Guirguis for their ongoing commitment and dedication to the Gala, which drew a cast from over 45 Catholic schools from both within Melbourne and regional Victoria. As you might imagine, the standard of the performance was outstanding to say the least, and Brydie, Dylan and Jacinta were fabulous in their respective roles. A number of staff members attended the performance, including Mr Sheehan, and without fail, we were all incredibly proud and took great delight in watching our students perform.

Clare O'Sullivan cosullivan@crcmelton.com.au Macbeth Performance On the 10th of September, a cast of 10 performed a contemporary act on Macbeth. The play showed us a modern side of Macbeth, as it involved gangsters instead of knights and high-class businessmen instead of royalty. During the performance the colour red is symbolized as ambition and guilt; as Macbeth gets more powerful by killing his competition the colour red becomes more obvious. As a modern Macbeth he bought useless accessories to make himself seem like he was above it all. Students were open minded when entering the performance, as they did not know what to expect; the acting styles were original and brought out a new side of the play. It allowed the students to see the play in a different light and understand the play more in depth. Multiple actors played different characters, as in the original play there were 30 characters. Instead of the classic ending of Macduff killing Macbeth and taking the throne; Macbeth realises what he has become and dies knowing that his mascaraed was over. Julie De Domenico Sing for Charity On Wednesday 10th of September at lunchtime there was a Sing For Charity event which was not only raising money for BeyondBlue but also raising awareness of Youth Suicides in Australia. As students entered the Trade Training Centre they donated a $1 and received a BeyondBlue gift. There were many singers performing and the event ran well. In total with all donations $450 was raised for BeyondBlue. Thank you to all teachers and students that helped set up the stages, chairs and music equipment. Without you the day would have been a lot more stressful for me. Also thank you to all the students who performed, you all did so well and I was so proud to see you all get up there, even if it was the first time performing in front of a crowd. You all were amazing. Stacey Pieper
