17th June, 2014 Reflection May our ‘way of looking’ become more like yours Lord, we come before you as we are. We ask you to take away from us all that makes us less than human. Strengthen us with the power of your Spirit that our attitude and outlook may develop, and our “way of looking” may become more like yours. Help us to remain positive - encouraging and appreciating one another, looking upon people in the same way that you do. Amen.
Mr Sheehan is currently on leave for the next two weeks and I have stepped into his role in his absence. As a school community teachers and staff gather for a morning briefing 3 times a week at 8.30 for a reflection or prayer led by one of their colleagues and information regarding past or upcoming events. I had the opportunity to lead the staff on Monday morning for the reflection. As I was driving to work that morning I was thinking to myself what can I share with the staff? What came to me were the extraordinary efforts our students go to in supporting others who are not as fortunate as them. In many ways they are Christ’s story in action. Some of the things our students are involved in or promoting are, last Friday night a group of students with staff members, Marg Rowe Watts and Kathy Sayers, volunteered their time to help out with the St Vinnie’s food vans in Fitzroy. The student Social Justice Committee and Intermediate VCAL class came to me last week with a proposal to support and raise awareness of the plight of the homeless in our community by organising a sleep out early next term. Posters are currently on display around the school asking our community to donate blankets, jumpers and warm clothing for the homeless. Year 11 student Tegan Lafranchi approached Year 11 Coordinator Mr Henneman and myself early this term with the suggestion we should do something about the tragic one punch incidents we hear and read about. This has lead to a presentation being organised, with the support of the Melton police, for all Year 11 and 12 students next week involving a range of people involved in such incidents. No doubt there are many other examples of CRC students who have committed to improve the life of others. We can be justly proud of their effort and commitment. The students are acting on the belief that they can make a difference.
A reminder, next Monday, 23rd June, is a student free day as staff will be involved in Professional Learning activities. Robert Blackley Acting Principal Last Day of Term 2 Please note that Term 2 classes finish at 2.30pm next Friday, June 27. This is to ensure our students finish in line with other secondary schools for bus connections. Please note that the local SITA Town buses will continue to operate on normal times. We advise that students who catch these buses may find it more convenient to make other arrangements home this day. Finally, a newsletter will be mailed home next week. It will contain information on accessing Semester One Reports. Reports will only be available through the College’s Parent Portal. Exams Congratulations to our Year 11, 10 and 9 students who undertook their Semester 1 exams in a positive and studious manner. Students will have the opportunity to receive their exams back and use the feedback for future improvement. We trust that all students worked to their potential and will receive the grades that they deserve. John Christie Deputy Principal (Staff)
