18th September 2012 Reflection Gracious God, You have blessed this ancient land with many gifts, especially its people. We thank you for the Year of Grace, a time to start afresh from Christ. You invite us to contemplate the face of Jesus your Son, that we may experience a new wave of grace, and that the light of Christ may burn more brightly in our lives. Attune our hearts and minds to the presence of your Holy Spirit, that our Church may be transformed, our relationships be healed, and our nation grow in compassion and justice. With the intercession of St Mary MacKillop, who showed us new ways of living the Gospel, we make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
This week signals the end of Term 3. The students are no doubt looking forward to the holidays, while for the staff, the holidays will be a time to recharge the batteries after a very busy and eventful term.
As stated in the Student Diary, students have the option of wearing the winter or summer uniform up until the Melbourne Cup weekend break. The summer uniform is the required uniform after Melbourne Cup.
For the Unit 3 & 4 students the holiday break will not be a time of sitting back and putting their feet up. The students will face practice exams during the second week of the holidays. This will be a good opportunity for them to sit the exams under exams conditions and allow them to make some judgment as to their level of understanding across the subjects. It will also assist them in determining how they spend their remaining weeks at school during the revision program. For the students who have been well prepared and working consistently throughout the year the exams should be approached with some confidence. For the students whose work approach during the year has been inconsistent, all is not lost, significant gains can be made in the remaining weeks with a concentrated effort. For the parents of students, it will also be a time of anxiety and hope. My advice to the parents is to be there and provide reassurance for your son and daughter when needed. We wish them well.
As from 2013 it will be compulsory for all VCE/VCAL students to have the navy blue school jumper. It is possible to purchase second hand jumpers from the current 2012 Year 12 students either individually or through the Uniform Shop.
I recently attended a local cluster meeting regarding the latest developments and progress on the proposed regional trade training centre. I am pleased to report an agreement has been reached between the four partners and CRC will be the site for engineering. This is an exciting development for the College. We are likely to see construction starting early in the new year.
Parents are asked not to park in front of the gate exits as access to and from the school is required at all times. With Mr Sheehan returning from leave at the start of Term 4, I would like to thank the school community for their support of me during my time as Acting Principal. The College staff have also been a wonderful support. I would also like to thank Mr John Christie, fellow Deputy Principal for his support and the professionalism and hard work of acting Deputy Mrs Chantelle Gauci. Finally, I would like to wish all our families and staff a safe and happy Term 3 break. Robert Blackley Acting Principal
Year 12 Information
End of Term 3
As we approach the end of Term Three, courses are coming to a conclusion. From this point forward, students should be focusing upon exam revision. To enable students the best opportunity, a comprehensive examination program on the second week of the holidays has been organised. Students have been supplied with a timetable of their examinations. These practice examinations are compulsory and provide students with timed practice in completing examinations and allow a summative assessment relating to the extent of knowledge of the course thus far and work which can be completed to enable maximum benefits. External supervisors will supervise these examinations and external assessors will assess the English examination. All students will be provided with feedback on each exam completed and staff will tailor revision programs to the needs of the students. CRC staff will also be present at the College during the examination time. Students are not required to wear school uniform for these examinations. For further information or a timetable please contact me via email.
The last day of Term 3 is this Friday, September 21. The College will finish at 2.30pm. Bacchus Marsh Coaches will operate at earlier times to suit this but SITA coaches will run to their normal town service times. I ask that families of students that normally catch the SITA bus make other arrangements for this day wherever possible.
A reminder for Year 12 families to return the documentation relating to the Graduation Mass and Graduation Dinner.
College Library Please note that over the holidays, the College Library will be open from 9.00am to 3.30pm from Monday, October 1 up to and including Thursday, October 4. Students from Years 7 – 12 may wish to take advantage of this. Year 12 students may find this particularly useful in between practice exams. 2013 Subject Selections The last of our 2013 selections close this Wednesday, September 19. All Year 8 students should have completed their elective choices by then and have submitted paperwork to their Homeroom teacher. Early next term, families will receive a copy of their child’s initial allocations.
