19th February, 2013 Reflection Lent marks the beginning of our annual spiritual renewal as we journey towards Easter. The Church offers us the disciplines of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving during this time. Why do we undertake these disciplines? Each of them is about turning ourselves into God’s presence. In prayer we sit in stillness. By fasting we feel the emptiness that only God can fill and by works of charity we remember that we all exist by the gift of grace. Why not take on one of these practices this Lent and encourage those in our school and community to do the same, and let God anew into our lives?
Year 12 Commemorative Garden This artwork at the entrance of the Year 12 Building was designed and created by Jenny Steiner (Artist in Residence) in collaboration with Amy Rowley and our Year 12 students. It marks the completion of each student’s time at the school. They will be remembered forever, and they will leave their mark on the school.
At the base of the trees there is a dry river bed made from rocks and stones and incorporated into this bed there is a trail of ceramic river stones created by each of the Year 12 students from 2012 with their name on it and fixed into the ground. Each stone should have the imprint of each students palm print showing their lifeline as clearly as possible. The message is that they are ‘paving the way’ for others to follow.
CRC Melton is a nurturing environment in which the students grow, develop and move on. Each graduating year is an inspiration to the next and is looked up to by the younger members of the student body. Taking the theme of nurturing and growing we have created a garden of trees made from wood and metal. They are at varying heights representing the different year levels culminating into the tall trees (Year 12) reaching forever higher and higher onward, upward representing the students and their future achievements. These trees are set in a landscaped area of Australian grasses and other plants.
We look forward to welcoming back our Year 12 students from last year at a BBQ to be held on Wednesday February 27th. Parents and Friends Meeting Our first meeting for 2013 is on Wednesday February 27th starting at 7.30pm. All welcome, especially parents new to the school.

Subject Changes As stated last week, Semester One subject changes for students have now closed. This allows all students to now concentrate on their program of studies. Bacchus Marsh Buses Thanks to both parents and students for their patience in finalising bus arrangements for Bacchus Marsh students. Through consultation with the Companies and the bus drivers we have now refined the pick-up procedures to ensure buses numbers are correct and safe in the morning and afternoon. All three Bacchus Marsh Coaches now use coloured cards to signify which bus students board. These cards have been given to students buy the bus drivers as they board in the mornings.

Cross Country 2013 Update
Working Bee 2013
The 2013 Cross Country season kicked off last week with over 50 runners from Years 7 – 12 taking part in the twice weekly training (Wednesday and Friday) at lunchtime. At the first training session Mr Brown hatched his plan to steal the Aggregate Trophy at the SACCSS Cross Country Championship that will be held at Brimbank Park in late April. A plan that requires the support of fellow staff, families, and most importantly the students.
An invitation is extended to all families to be part of one of the biggest events on the College calendar – our Annual Working Bee. Not only do we need the support of our families at this event, but it is a wonderful example of offering your talents that hugely benefit our students as well as being an occasion to enjoy fellowship with staff and other parents. It takes place over the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd March and I urge everyone to be part of this great family/community opportunity to beautify our College. If you are able to help out at the Working Bee, supply morning tea or make a donation please complete the attached Working Bee Participation form.
The Captains of the team, Annika Miesen and Josh Seymour have clearly had a solid summer of running and have been setting a quick pace at training. Their advice and encouragement of our young runners continues to be of great value. The 2013 Triple Challenge was launched in week two of the term. Students were invited to take part in the Run for the Kids (March), The Great Train Race (May) and for the older students, The City to Surf in Sydney (August). Those interested should speak to Ms Brown, Ms Wright or Mr McCann. New runners are always welcome to join the Cross Country Squad. They are encouraged to make themselves know to Ms Brown, Mr McCann or to the Head Coach Mr Brown or simply meet at the front gate of the school at the beginning of lunchtime on Wednesdays and Fridays. "Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it." (Author is Unknown) Keep on Running. John McCann
Peter Drew Property Manager Kenya Immersion Program Fundraiser In a few short weeks, seven students from Years 11 and 12 will leave Australia and fly to Kenya to take part in the Kenya Immersion Program. The students have been preparing for their immersion experience for several months and have worked hard to lead the school in raising funds to establish a playground area for the children at Br Beausang’s school in Kenya. On Friday 8th March the Kenya Immersion Team are hosting a Trivia night as a fundraiser to help support our students with costs associated with the Immersion Program. To make the night a success we are seeking prize donations that can be used as part of a silent auction or for a raffle on the evening. Please contact Mrs Pauline Jakobovic on 97436522 or via email on pjakobovic@crcmelton.com.au if you have prizes you would like to donate or if you would like to book a table on the night.
