19th May, 2015 Reflection The Ascension of the Lord Jesus showed himself to the Eleven, and said to them, ‘Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation … And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven: there at the right hand of God he took his place, while they, going out, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the signs that accompanied it. (Mk 16:19–20) We pray to be your faithful witnesses, to the ends of the earth. Lord, have mercy. That the Spirit of God renews our lives. Lord, have mercy. That those who are paralysed by fear or doubt might be healed. Lord, have mercy. God of our Lord, Jesus Christ, as we celebrate the ascension of your Son, teach us to trust that he lives to intercede on our behalf, now and forever, Amen.

Celebration Day - May 26 Our senior student leaders launched Celebration Day to the students at our recent full school assembly. The leaders have been meeting, planning, organising and booking activities for the day. The challenge of raising $10,000 ($10 per student) was put to the students. Money raised will be shared with our sister school Brother Beausang College Nairobi, Kenya, Orygen Youth Health and McAuley Community Services for Women.

McAuley Community Services for Women with the appointment of domestic violence campaigner Rosie Batty as 2015 Australian of the Year, the constant media reports of domestic violence and our involvement in the past with White Ribbon Day has lead us to make connection with McAuley Community Services for Women. It provides services for women and their children who are escaping family violence, and for women who are homeless. Students arriving late

Br Beausang Catholic Education Centre, located in Embulbul, has a school population of over 800 from nursery to the end of secondary school. There is also a unit for children with special needs. Most of the students are from poor and often displaced families and many are orphans. The school provides a meal each school day and for many, it is their only meal for the day. Students from all tribes, cultures and religions in neighbouring communities are welcome, especially those who might not otherwise be able to access education due to personal circumstances. Money raised in the past by the CRC community has allowed the school to install playground equipment and develop sporting facilities. This year money will be used to purchase music instrumental equipment. Orygen Youth Health Clinical Program (OYHCP) is a world-leading youth mental health program based in Melbourne. OYHCP has two main components: a specialised youth mental health clinical service; and an integrated training and communications program. Orygen Youth Health Clinical Program is part of the public mental health system and sees young people aged 15 to 25, with a focus on early intervention and youth specific approaches.

The School requires regular and punctual attendance at school and to all classes. Students must be at school throughout the hours of a normal school day, this includes Homeroom at the start of the school day. Attendance enables proper continuity of programs, development of understanding, completion of work in class and dissemination of information. Students with a pattern of lateness will receive discipline points and a possible after school detention. We are asking for your support to ensure your son/ daughter is arriving to school on time and ready for Homeroom at 8.48am. School Photos - May 28 School photos will be taken on Thursday 28 May. Photos can be ordered online. Details on how to order photos have been given to students this week. Arthur Reed Photos also provide the opportunity for family photos. Students will be required to wear full winter uniform for the photos. If a student has PE or a related activity they will need to bring their PE uniform to school and change. Students who will/may be absent on the 28th will have the opportunity to have their photo taken at the catch up day June 4. Robert Blackley Deputy Principal-Students

Our Soup Van Experience

Celebration Day/Back to Parish Mass

On Friday 15 of May we went out with the St. Vinnies soup van and stopped at several places and gave out food, drinks and even played a little music with one of the other volunteers. We enjoyed great conversations and felt really grateful about having the opportunity to go out and help people who really need it. We gave out lots of toiletries and warm winter clothing and met some wonderful people. We were very humbled to go out and do this small action. We also enjoyed meeting and getting to know the volunteers who devote their time to help those in need.

On Tuesday 26th of May, students will start their day at their local parish church for morning Mass with their parish community. Students celebrating Mass at St Anthony’s or St Bernard’s will return to school by bus for Celebration Day activities.

We strongly encourage more people to participate in this amazing experience. As a result of going out this night, we have come to realise that there's a huge need for men's jackets, socks, jocks, tooth brushes, tooth paste, and combs. Donations of any of these items or more, will be most welcome. Drew Georgeallis It was an awesome experience and I urge everyone to give it a go. Jack Scamangas

Students celebrating at St Catherine’s will start the morning at school by arriving by 8.40am and gathering in year level areas for roll taking and will then move across to church. CRC staff will be at all parishes and supervise the return to school. The College day will have a normal finish time of 3.20pm. Students are to wear PE uniform and those attending St Anthony’s and St Bernard’s are expected to make their own way to church and are required 15minutes before Mass begins. Mass times:

It is an experience that you'll never forget and will make you want to relive it again. Erin Sutherland

Sandwiches for the homeless On Wednesday we are making sandwiches after school from 3.30 - 4.15 which will be delivered and given to the homeless around the Footscray and Sunshine areas that night. Any students wishing to help are most welcome but are asked to bring along a donation of goods that can be used for the sandwiches. Goods such as bread, cold meat, cheese, lettuce, glad wrap etc are needed. Thank you to all who have contributed to all of our causes. Your kindness makes a huge difference in the lives of others. Margaret Rowe-Watts Parents & Friends The next meeting of the Parents & Friends will be held on Wednesday 27th May at 7.30pm.
