1st December, 2015 Reflection Advent begins Advent is the first season of the Church year where we prepare ourselves to celebrate the wonderful feast of Christmas. A reading from first letter of St Paul to the Thessalonians: May the Lord be generous in increasing your love and make you love one another and the whole human race as much as we love you. And may he so confirm your hearts in holiness that you may be blameless in the sight of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus Christ comes with all his saints. Lord, we are so often overwhelmed by the busyness of this time of year. O come Emmanuel, come into our hearts and show us by your light the beauty of your way of love. We are your people, Lord, and we are waiting for your return. Come Lord Jesus. Amen.

College Volunteers Dinner

Mary Glowrey lecture

On Wednesday night, the College hosted its first annual Volunteers Dinner at Tabcorb Park with 24 people in attendance. This will be an Annual event on our school calendar to thank all those parents and friends of the College who have given so much time to us in 2015. We are always seeking parent involvement in the Uniform Shop, the Canteen, Parents and Friends meetings and Sport Carnivals. Everyone is invited to be a volunteer at CRC in 2016!

I attended the inaugural Mary Glowrey lecture at ACU last Thursday where Tim Fisher AC, former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, was the Guest speaker. Tim regaled all present with stories of Mary Glowrey, interspersed with his views on life in the Vatican City, the state of play with the Church and global politics. After the formalities, I met several members of the Glowrey family and invited them out to CRC Melton next year to formally open the Glowrey building, formerly known as the VCE Science building. We pray that Dr Sr Mary Glowery will become Australia’s second Saint within the next two years. You can learn more about Mary’s life at http://www.cwla.org.au/index.php/ memberorganisations/victoria-a-wagga-wagga/ item/136-dr-sr-mary-glowrey-jmj Mark Sheehan Principal

Student Support Services

Buses

With the holidays fast approaching, I thought it would be a good time to let you know about support that is available to young people while school is closed offered by the City of Melton. 6801 Youth Outreach team are currently available to support young people aged 12 – 25 in a variety of ways: Brief Interventions can include material aid, information (even about available recreational programs) or referrals. Brief interventions are usually 3 or so sessions. Short term case management includes initial needs assessment, goal-setting / support plan, and exit. This may be particularly helpful for young people who could benefit from extra support to maintain good mental health and/or positive relationships at home. The Reconnect Team are also available to assist where young people may be at risk of homelessness, including ongoing couch-surfing, or have recently left home.

On Friday, Darley, Hopetoun Park and Underbank buses will arrive early for a 1.40pm departure. The other combined runs will run as normal. Students will be supervised at school until normal pick up time. Parents are encouraged to make other arrangements for an earlier pick-up where possible. If your son or daughter needs to remain at school until 3.20pm could you please let their Homeroom teachers know. 2015 Reports Semester 2 reports will be available through our Parent Access Module (PAM) on Tuesday 15th December. All families will need to have their access code, if you do not have your PAM access code then please contact the College. College Parent Parking / Drop Offs

End of Year Arrangements Year 7-9 The final day for Year 7 & 8 students is Friday December 5. It is a normal school day therefore students are required to attend. The students will celebrate with a Year Level Mass, Year Level Assembly to recognise student achievements, Homeroom assemblies and finish with a BBQ. Lunch will be provided for the students. The students will be permitted to wear their PE uniform and will be dismissed at 1.30pm

Although we have less students at the College this week, could all parent / guardians be aware of ensuring traffic flows as smoothly as possible in the College Parking areas. Please allow cars to exit from parking places and ensure drop offs are done as quickly as possible. Melton Council are resurfacing and aligning the carpark area at the front of the College over the break, so we are hopeful this may ease some of the traffic flow concerns. 2016 Dates

Rob Blackley Deputy Principal (Students) Year 9 End of Year Key Dates Year 9 students are involved with some key activities this week. Our Year 9 Farewell Assembly and Mass will take place on Wednesday, December 2. Mrs Dunne, Mr Ryan and Ms Nowak have put together a fantastic program for the students that enables them to have personal choice in their activities and finish off with the Amazing Race. This City orientation will really benefit the students in their future Melbourne visits, especially for those who undertake Work Experience in Melbourne next year. This is their final school day for 2015.

The National Young Leaders Day “Master the Little” was the theme of the event run by Halogen Foundation on the 20th November, The National Young Leaders Day for student leaders around Victoria. The event included various inspirational speakers from all walks of life, who influenced our idea of leadership within not only CRC, but the wider community. The standouts of the conference were Jules Allen, the Youth Whisperer, and Daniel Flynn, the founder of ThankYou water, because of their honest approach to leadership, showing both resilience and strength through adversity. They both believed that “teamwork makes the dream work” and that it is important to value people rather then seeing them as something that needs to be fixed. Through this conference we, as School Captains, look to become more innovative not just as one, but as a team. Most of all we learnt that “ no important decision should ever be made after lunch.” Maddison Bassal and Jack Doyle 2016 College Captains
