20th August, 2013 Reflection Great Spirit Prayer Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind, whose breath gives life to all the world. Hear me; I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people. Help me to remain calm and strong in the face of all that comes towards me. Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. Help me seek pure thoughts and act with the intention of helping others. Help me find compassion without empathy overwhelming me. I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy Myself. Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes. So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.

Performing Arts Centre

VCE Drama Solo Performances

The plans for our Performing Arts Centre are going out to tender this month. My hope is that we will have a builder, signed up and on site within six weeks when the project will commence.

The Year 11 and 12 Drama class for 2013 will be presenting their solo drama works on Tuesday 27th August at 7.00pm in the Drama Studio. All parents, family members and friends of the cast are welcome, as are members of the College community. This performance provides an opportunity for any students in younger years, particularly Years 9 & 10, who think they may choose Drama as a VCE subject, to witness the performance work of our current VCE drama class. As the students performing will be assessed on this evening, it is imperative that standard theatre etiquette is observed. In line with this, it would be advisable that babies or small children do not attend.

The plans include a 250 seat Auditorium, a Dance studio, a Drama studio along with a staff office, foyer and storage facilities. The Performing Arts Centre will take pride of place at CRC being located between the College Chapel and the Office. We are planning on the PAC to be ready for an opening performance in July next year. Cost of the building is estimated at $4.3m, so we are currently considering ways that families and our school community can support this project. Staff Faith Day Friday 23rd August - Student free day A reminder that this Friday, 23rd August, is a Student free day as staff will be involved in a Faith Development day. Mark Sheehan Principal

Please phone Samantha Frazzetto in the College office to RSVP, prior to the performance evening. Clare O’Sullivan VCE Drama Reminder Re-enrolment 2014 Re-enrolment paperwork is due on Thursday 29th August. Families who need to see their Parish Priest or the College Finance Department will need to organise these appointments by the end of this week.

Contact Details At various times the College may need to contact you, therefore it is important we have the correct phone and email details. Last week we had incidents where students were in the Sick Bay because of illness and Office staff attempted to contact parents with no success because of incorrect phone details. This was also the case when the emergency contact details were contacted. If you have changed your phone numbers and email address please notify the College.

Examples of the behaviour we are wishing to recognise are: 

Excellent effort over a series of classes

Producing an excellent piece of work

In recognition of real effort to behave appropriately, stay on task, meet a deadline where this is usually a challenge for a student

Consideration shown / assistance for others in class or the teacher

Honesty in returning found property

Excellence in representing the College on excursion or activities outside the school

40 Hour Famine Last weekend over 30 students participated in the annual World Vision 40 hour Famine. To date they have raised $1008.00, a fantastic effort! A significant number of students from 7O Homeroom willingly participated, contributing over $200. Students gave up food, their phone and furniture. If you would like to make a donation to the CRC Team go to http://40hf.com.au/ CRCMelton Team Leader Sophie Martin did a great job promoting and encouraging the school to get involved. Congratulations and thank you to all students for their involvement: Sophie Martin, Irene Fernandes, Ally Delaney, Joshua Tejedor, Conner Farrugia, Jayde Belbin, Tylah Bavage, Kaitlin Robinson, Elise Robinson, Monica Chol, Zoe Saheicha, Alannah Sutherland, Charlene Van Ravenstein, Edelle Pirro, Veronica Smith, Schaelah Kreischer, Emily Mills, Natasha Paproth, Alex Robinson, Rebecca Chin, Cassandra Hudson, Amy Baulch, Lauren Sands, Nadia Blanco, Jai Whitehand, Harmonie Wegener, Lakmie Meemaduma, Grace Allen, Meg Bacchin, Mikayla Tyrrell, Kaitlin Tissera, and Zoe Campbell. Rewarding Positive Student Behaviour We are currently piloting a program at Year 7 & 8 to recognise and reinforce behaviour that we, as a school want to acknowledge and encourage among students by giving positive feedback. It is a Credit System for rewarding positive student behaviour and runs parallel to, but independently, of the Points System. Each stamp that appears in the diary is worth one credit.

Congratulations Elise Muller

Lote Week

Elise has been recognised by the FFV Soccer Association as the second highest scorer in Australia. This embraces the achievements of all players, in all divisions throughout each state. Elise came in second place by scoring 7 goals in the one game. The highest scorer being, a male in senior division, with 8 goals. Elise's coach was very proud of her achievement. Recognising that being a team player, Elise actually gave away a number of potential goals in that game. Admiration for Elise only increased when her answer to the question, if she regretted passing the ball to her team mates, was, " No, I am a team player. I respect my team mates and it is by this that I am respected and we get the best out of everyone and the best for our team. And that's the most important thing for me." Well done and keep up the great effort Elise! Uniform Shop News Summer uniform fittings for Year 7, 2014 students will be held on Wednesday 28th August and Thursday 29th August. Current students requiring summer uniform should order by these dates also. Secondhand Uniform Any secondhand uniform left for sale must be washed and repaired. Blazers and ties must be drycleaned. We will not accept any garments that are dirty, ripped or torn.

Last week Catholic Regional College, Melton celebrated LOTE week. It was the first time in a while that languages have been celebrated in such a way. Students from all year levels had the opportunity to participate in different activities. Tuesday we had the spaghetti eating competition, where many enthusiastic and hungry Year 7 boys participated. Students were able to order traditional Italian and Indonesian food for lunch on Wednesday, which turned out to be a great success. A team of boys and a team of girls participated in the chopstick and jelly bean race on Thursday at lunch, much to their disappointment the boys were disqualified and the girls were champions! The gelati van was a great success for both staff and students, and finally a game of soccer between staff and students on Friday was a great way to finish the week!
