21st June, 2016 Reflection My choices and commitment Lord, inspire me to live in such a way that my choices each day and my commitment to live in a positive way may transform the negative into something positive, and the ordinariness of daily life into something extraordinary. Amen.

Dear Parents and Students, As Semester One comes to a close this week I wish all our CRC families a restful and safe break and to thank all staff for their care of our students and commitment to assisting them achieve their personal best in their studies, the performing arts, and sport throughout the Semester. I hope that our VCE students commit some time for study and revision in addition to time for rest and relaxation. We farewell some staff at the end of term. Ms Kathryn Grace leaves us as Mrs Loretta Kalms will return from Maternity leave. We thank Kathryn for her excellent teaching across Years 7 and 8 and her commitment as a Year 7 Homeroom Teacher over the past 12 months. She will be sadly missed by both staff and students and we wish her every success in her next teaching role. Mr John Dougherty retires this week after many years of service to the College in the Maintenance area. We thank John and wish him well and I am sure he will keep himself busy. Mrs Lydia Fus will be away for the first 6 weeks of Term 3 as she takes some well earned Long Service Leave. Ms Kath Jones will be acting Year 10 Coordinator in Lydia’s absence. We will also welcome Mr Trevor Blackhurst to our staff as he takes Mrs Fus’ classes during her absence. Term 3 starts for all year levels on Monday, July 13. All Year 7 – 11 students will receive an updated copy of their Timetable with their new electives / rotations listed. We will begin with Day 1 of our Timetable. Last Day of Term 2 and Buses As mentioned last week, please note the following information regarding bus service pick-ups for next Friday June 24. Our College will finish classes at 2.30pm as it has done in previous years. Melton Town services will run at their regular times. Students who normally catch the two SITA Buses may wait until their normally scheduled pickup time of 3.30pm or make other arrangements, such as catching other town buses, to get home. We have been able to negotiate that our Bacchus Marsh Coach service routes will arrive early to accommodate our 2.30pm finish time. I suggest students talk with their drivers for details. Semester One Reports will open next Tuesday, June 30. Reports will only be available through the Parent Portal. John Christie Acting Principal

Privacy Tips for Parents Young people are increasingly spending more time online to connect with friends, learn and be entertained. Online environments give young people the chance to express themselves and build an online personal identity. Sharing personal information online can be risky and it’s important to educate your children on how to make good decisions and limit those risks. Your children need as much support online as they do offline. The link below, provided by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, contains information and useful tips that will help you and your children protect their privacy when they interact online. https://www.oaic.gov.au/individuals/privacy-fact-sheets/general/privacy-fact-sheet-48-ten-privacy-tips-for-parentsand-carers Reach Out When a parent recognises a teenager needs help, they’re more likely to get it. That’s why ReachOut Australia – the country’s leading online mental health organisation for young people – has introduced a free new service to help parents help teenagers. Free and available 24/7, ReachOut.com/Parents provides evidence-based practical support and tips that encourage effective communication and relationships between parents and young people aged 12–18 years, as well as easy-toread information on a range of mental health and wellbeing issues. The service features more than 140 fact sheets, stories, practical tips and tools, and also provides access to an online community forum so that parents can connect with each other to share experiences in an anonymous, supportive space. Statistics show that anxiety disorders are very common for young people aged between 16 and 25. In fact, 1 in 5 young women and 1 in 10 young men experience anxiety to an extent that interferes with their everyday life. As parents it can be difficult to recognise the signs and symptoms and when to take action. Learn more about anxiety, and how to determine if it is an issue for your child. Full School Assembly A full school assembly will be held Thursday week 1 Term 3. This will be an opportunity to recognise student achievements, make presentations from Celebration day and hear of upcoming events. All students are required to wear their full winter uniform on the day. Students will be required to wear their College blazer to the assembly. Robert Blackley Deputy Principal - Students
