22nd August, 2017 Reflection Prayer for the Marginalized For those deprived of their human needs and their human rights, that they may be given the dignity which God confers on all his people; We pray to the Lord For all who are forgotten or thrown away, and especially for the poor, the sick and the aged, that God might change our hearts and move us to love them as the image of Christ; We pray to the Lord For all who are lonely or afraid, for teenagers on the street, old people in nursing homes, prisoners with no one to visit them, and all whom the world has forgotten: that Christ might lead us to them; We pray to the Lord For all who are forgotten or cast off, that we might value each human life, as a priceless gift from God; We pray to the Lord Amen. Staff Service Day This Friday, August 25 is the College’s Staff Service Day. The College will be closed this day as staff undertake various Social Justice activities. John Christie Deputy Principal (Staff) From the Deputy Principal (Students) Police & Schools Consultative Meeting Network It was discussed at both the Melton and Brimbank Network meetings that there has been a reported spike in thefts being carried out by students both before and after school. Schools were advised that Police operations will be shortly commencing where a zero tolerance approach will be adopted to this criminal activity.

During the meetings a number of schools requested a document explaining the issue so it can be broadcast to their school community. See below advice from Victoria Police It has been brought to the attention of local Police that there has been a significant influx in reports of students committing theft (shop steal) and demonstrating anti-social behaviour in and around local shopping centres. Store Managers and Centre Management are working with local Police to identify these students and charge them accordingly. School Principals have met with Police and we will continue to work together to ensure that their students are not participating in these unlawful acts. A conviction for a criminal offence, such as theft, can affect an individual’s prospects for employment, acceptance into university, obtaining a passport or even entering certain countries. It is requested that parents and students be advised that a zero tolerance approach will be adopted by Police to these acts. Social Media Apps Behaving differently when no one else is watching is nothing new to the digital age, just more pronounced. It's an extension of the "what would you do if you were invisible?" question, as there are opportunities for you to be somewhat invisible over the internet. There is a new app designed to offer your child "constructive messages" from their peers, but are anonymously, has been recently released called “Sarahah”. Read more: http://www.essentialkids.com.au/life/technology/do-not-let-your-children-download-this-app-20170808gxs8n4 As one reviewer described it "Kids are using this to bully other kids. There's no way of telling who they are so they think they can say anything. My 13 year old daughter had a deluge of sickening abuse and sexual harassment. I've deleted it off her phone”. Vietnam Veterans Remembrance Day On August 17th Khawti Ling, Miss Nowak and myself were honoured to attend the Vietnam Veterans Remembrance Day Memorial in Melton, to pay our respects to the brave soldiers who fought for our country and ultimately our safety. Khawti and I laid the wreath in remembrance and we all took a moment to stop and think about how fortunate we are, as well as commemorate the soldiers who risked their lives for us. By walking the Kokoda trail in Papua New Guinea in July this year, I have developed a greater appreciation for the Australian diggers after being somewhat exposed to what these young men and women endured in order to fight for our freedom. I will forever be thankful for what they did to protect our country. Lest we forget. Montana Salton 12 B Daffey House Captain It was an honour and a privilege for me to attend the Vietnam Veterans Remembrance Day last week along with Montana Salton and Miss Nowak. We laid a wreath and paused in remembrance of Australian personnel who once proudly served our country in the Vietnam War. By remembering all who have served, we recognise their willingness to endure hardships and fears, so that we could live in peace. Lest We Forget. Deputy Environmental Captain Khawti Ling
