24th May, 2016 Reflection Acceptance and forgiveness in the scriptures Loving Lord, you tell us in the Bible that whatever wrong we have done you tread down our faults to the bottom of the sea. We know there is no need to keep thinking about what we have done in the past, because you pardon the wrongs we have done, and you delight in showing mercy. You bind up all our wounds and you renew us by your love. Lord, you love all that you have made, and it is your very nature to love and forgive. Lead us to be generous in accepting and forgiving others in the same way as you accept and forgive us. Amen

Dear Parents and students, Celebration Day was held last Tuesday and all students and staff had a terrific day, starting off with the Parish Masses. We raised $9,500 towards our charities - Br Beausang, Headspace and Wild Timor Water Project, which was terrific to see. Parents and Friends held their AGM in April and I am delighted that the following parents were elected as Office bearers for 2016: President: Jenny Machado Secretary: Julia Drew Treasurer: Tracy Spiteri Our next meeting is this Wednesday (May 25) starting at 7.30pm. All welcome. School Uniform feedback The Federation have decided to look at ways of improving the current College blazer and Girls Kilt and this week is your last chance to provide feedback. We would like your feedback on a blazer made of lighter material and a skirt with an improved and more comfortable cut. Academy Uniforms, our uniform manufacturer, has developed models of both. These are on display at the College office until 25th May. It would be great to have your feedback. Comments can be emailed to kmatthews@crcmelton.com.au or you could give feedback at the Parents and Friends meeting. Mark Sheehan Principal

Parents & Friends There will be a Parent & Friends meeting, tomorrow night at 7.30pm

News from Deputy Principal (Staff)

Sick Bay Procedures Can families please note that if a student is feeling unwell, they are to come via the College Sick Bay for assessment. If required, Reception staff are in the best position to call parents / guardians to come to school and pick them up. It is of concern that some students are ringing home direct and telling parents to collect them without checking with or being assessed by our First Aid staff. It also means students are not being monitored in the time taken to arrive. We ask for parent cooperation in this issue. Bacchus Marsh Bus Transport Bus travellers from Bacchus Marsh / Darley are now operating on the new schedule as outlined last week and sent out via CareMonkey. Please provide feedback on this new arrangement as we work towards a service that provides safe and appropriate transport for all CRC Melton students. Again, we urge families to use the service designed for them and not have students overload buses on other routes. Musical 2016 - Grease

This year Catholic Regional College Melton is proudly performing our first major musical in a number of years: “Grease”. Grease tells the story of Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski, after their time on the beach falling in love, their summer romance has to end as the school year begins, what neither of them know is that they both now attend Rydell High and their unexpected reunion is just around the corner. “Grease” is filled with music, dance and laughter causing you to sing along and move to the beat of this classic musical. The show will leave you with joy in your mind and love in your heart and the knowledge that “Grease is the word!”. The Grease cast showed a brief glimpse of the production as a part of Celebration Day’s Talent Show and it was a real hit with the crowd. Rehearsals are well underway and everything is shaping up for an amazing performance season in the Performing Arts Centre on Thursday 28th, Friday 29th and Saturday 30th July 2016. Tickets will be available shortly.

Year 9 Community Service

Cooper’s Animal shelter Last week’s community service was at Cooper’s Animal shelter in Bacchus Marsh run by Christine Gilmore. Rescued, orphaned and injured wildlife are taken in and cared for by Christine and her volunteers. James Mayne, Blake Caruana, Oscar Esposito, Dylan Seagrave, Tahlia Wheadon and Ebony Meredith of Year 9 spent approximately 1 hour helping her move some enclosures and doing general clean up duties. The best part was the time with the animals. Each student was able to hold, cuddle and play with some of the residents there. Here are their thoughts of the day. It was “sick as”. I would definitely do this again. The Kangaroos wanted to get close to me and the wombats wanted to jump in my lap. Without doubt, I recommend this to anyone. Blake Caruana It was amazing! A great time down at Christine’s animal shelter. Coming in contact with wombats, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and possums. I experienced something so amazing – holding baby wombats and kangaroos that would still normally be in their mother’s pouches. I will definitely do this again in my own time. Tahlia Wheadon I had a great experience. Working with kangaroos, wombats, wallabies and possums is something I won’t forget. I would definitely come back to work with the animals and I recommend trying it out yourself as well. Ebony Meredith We had a really fun time, we especially enjoyed the wombats as they were very tiny and cute. The Kangaroos were very cool. They kept wanting to have little fights with each other. James, Oscar and Dylan

By helping out such a charity it leaves more time for the volunteers to spend a lot more time with the animals. The cages were donated by people in the local area. Cooper’s animal shelter is operated as a charity. They are able to provide care for wildlife through the kind donations of time and gifts from other animal lovers. If you love animals and have time to spare, I know they would love to hear from you. Margaret Rowe-Watts

St. Vincent De Paul Student Conference

The St. Vincent De Paul Student Conference - 4th May – was a great opportunity for several schools across Melbourne to gather together to focus on being “ The Light in the Darkness”. The theme promotes positive action using our own skills to help bring about a better world for others. Hence be their “light” in times of misery and darkness. One of the highlights of the day was a speaker by the name of Simon Lewis. He is a Melbourne surf life saver who wanted to do something that would benefit someone else. He raised $22,000, flew to Lesbos in Greece, and was assisting with the Syrian refugee crisis. He became a Humanitarian Life guard, helping rescue refugees arriving from Turkey. He was inspirational but also very thought provoking. We also heard from a woman sharing her story of arriving in Australia as a refugee and the obstacles her and her mother faced. She had to travel very long distances on foot to go to school and her mother worked illegally just to get food for them. This made some of us realise how fortunate we are to live in a safe and well developed country and how often we take things for granted. St. Vincent De Paul also run a tutoring program where students of any age can receive assistance with school work, language difficulties, religious and cultural support and also help with any aspect of adjusting to a new country. They provide an environment where the students find comfort and fun. Another highlight of the day was having lunch at Lentil As Anything at the Abbotsford Convent Gallery gardens. The food is prepared and served by volunteers and is totally delicious vegan food. The following is printed on their menu. “ At Lentil, we believe in the power of humanity to create stupendous change and that everyone deserves a place at the table. There are no prices on our menus. Our food is not free but you are. At Lentil you are free to contribute what you think your meal is worth, to continue a movement that values the diner over the dollar.”

Ken Dumandan, Ms. M. Rowe-Watts, Kelsey Fitzgerald, Sarah Manyok Thiak and Victoria Vassallo. Our volunteer waiter waiter was Chau. Celebration Day Community Stalls It was a great day for celebrating connections with community groups. We were very appreciative that each of these groups sent along representatives for the day. Sea Shepherd, Lighthouse Foundation, Lynda’s Hampers, Dance Wize, Riding with the Disabled, Edgar’s Mission, Action for disability in Ethnic Communities, Melton Shire Youth. A big thank you to Victoria Vassallo, Ken Dumandan and Isabella Willamson for contacting some of the organisations.

Breakfast Club

Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday the school is providing a free breakfast from 8.00am – 8.40am. Mondays and Wednesdays there is toast, juice, cereal and fruit available and on Fridays we have yoghurt, fruit salad, cereal, juice and sometimes a surprise treat. Every one is welcome to attend. Recognition must be given to the dedicated senior students that have been coming to school early to set up and assist with the breakfast.

Friday surprise being cooked by Kitty Robinson and assisted eagerly by Brad Keating

Tahlia Muscat has attended most of the mornings and on occasions has entertained us with her guitar. Thanks Tahlia. Claudia and Aweng are accompanying Tahlia with the singing.
