25th February, 2014 Reflection Praying with others across the world Lord, you said that when two or three would gather together in your name, then you would be present with them. I am praying by myself but I am uniting myself with many individual Christians throughout the world who, though separate, are gathered together in another sense to pray to you, and I trust that you are with me now. Amen

Visitors from Italy

Working Bee

CRC Melton hosted a small group of school leaders from Cividale, Italy over the past few days.

Day one of our annual working bee is this Saturday and I hope to see many parents present. At 10am Saturday the school will open up our new Trade Training Centre for a short tour. All parents welcome.

Pictured below, are our visitors from Italy, Paolo Battigello - Principal of Agricultural School and Coordinator of the FriSaLi network, Raffaele Franzese (President of the High Institute for Tecnologies in Sardinia and Vittorino Michelutti, Logistic organizer and Deputy Principal of Convitto of Cividale, who were complimentary about the staff and students they met in their visit to our College. The next step will be an opportunity to host a group of students from Cividale.

Bulmans Roadworks Parents may have noticed some council works at the intersection of Bulmans Road and Sovereign Boulevard. The City of Melton is installing a roundabout at the intersection and consequently adjusting the positions of some street lights. As always, around construction areas, all drivers and pedestrians are reminded to exercise due care. Mark Sheehan Principal

Parents and Friends Our first meeting for 2014 is on Wednesday February 26th starting at 7.30pm. All welcome, especially parents new to the school.

First Month of School This week will see the end of the first month of school for 2014 therefore all students should be well settled into a working routine and have all necessary uniform and school items. All students will be in the midst of their first assessment task with many being due within the next week or two. For some, assessment may have already been completed. Over the next two weeks letters will be sent home outlining our concerns regarding those students who have not made a positive and effective start to the year.

Catholic Regional College Melton – Cabaret

Cultural Excursion – Les Miserables

This year’s Cabaret is called A Night at the Movies; audiences will be taken on an extraordinary journey through Hollywood’s greatest movies including School of Rock, Romeo and Juliet, Men in Black, Twilight and Sister Act. Cabaret for 2014 will be performed in our new Performing Arts Centre.

Each year the Performing Arts department, at CRC Melton organise a cultural arts excursion, for interested students to immerse themselves within the Melbourne arts scene, by viewing a live theatrical performance. This year, the performance selected is Les Miserables the musical. Forty student tickets have been purchased for the discounted price of $50 each. Twenty staff members shall also be accompanying the students on this excursion.

Cabaret will feature the Liturgical Ensemble, Senior & Junior Dance Troupes, the VET Music Band, Dance Competition Troupe as well as the best Musicians and Dancers CRC Melton has to offer. How can students get involved? Organise your music or dance group, select a movie and prepare your audition piece ready for the first week of Term 2. There will be Dance Troupes, Ensemble, Bands and smaller Dance groups. Although there will be no solo items in this year’s Cabaret, students can still audition individually and staff will cast students within a troupe or ensemble. Audition forms will be available from the Student Office from March 3rd and must be submitted to either Mrs Falzon or Miss Hughes before the end of Term 1.

This excursion takes place outside of school hours at 1pm on Wednesday 24th September, 2014 at Her Majesty’s Theatre, 219 Exhibition St, Melbourne. This date is the first week of the September school holidays. Ticket permission forms are open to students in Years 7 – 12 and are available from Ms. O’Sullivan. Students will be required to make their own way into the city on the day of performance and to meet Ms. O’Sullivan outside the theatre in Exhibition Street by 12.30pm. Students are also required to make their own way home via public transport or parent pick up, at the conclusion of the performance. Any student not confident in making their own way to the performance is able to negotiate other travel plans with myself.

How can parents become involved? The Cabaret Team need help with costume making. If you are handy with a sewing machine or can cut out a pattern, please email Mrs Pauline Jakobovic (pjakobovic@crcmelton.com.au) for more information.

Parents are encouraged to contact me with any queries regarding this excursion.
