26th April, 2016 Reflection When the thought of you wakens in us… God our heavenly Father, when the thought of you wakes in our hearts, let its awakening not be like a startled bird that flies about in fear. Instead, let it be like a child waking from sleep with a heavenly smile. Amen

Dear Parents and students, ANZAC Day Last Friday, all staff and students gathered for an Anzac Service in front of the Chapel. Student leaders led the service in a dignified and respectful manner. Kitty Robinson (Year 12) sang the Australian National Anthem and staff member, Kim Joyce sang the New Zealand National Anthem - both were delivered with great passion.

On Anzac Day, College Captains Maddison Bassal and Jack Doyle officiated at the Melton Dawn service. It was pleasing to see them lay a wreath on the High Street Cenotaph in front of the large crowd of 2000 in attendance. President of the Melton RSL and secretary Kevin Murray thanked those attending and for showing the veterans they have not been forgotten. He said: "Freedom is not free - our way of life has come at a price and thousands of people have paid the ultimate price. All of our World War I warriors have now gone, and our World War II heroes are becoming fewer and fewer; even the ranks of our Vietnam veterans are dwindling all too quickly”. “Add to this the dreadful physical and mental health issues being faced by our most recent veterans of Timor, Iraq, Afghanistan and other hot spots around the globe, and you begin to appreciate the need to maintain community awareness of the ‘price’ of war and conflict.” At the Bacchus Marsh Dawn Service, Brianna Pawlowicz and Anna-Marie Denton laid a wreath on behalf of the College, and again the ceremony was well supported by the community. Lest we Forget Mark Sheehan Princpal

Parents & Friends Hi Everyone, Hope you all had a nice break and welcome back. A reminder that the next Parents and Friends Meeting will be Wednesday 27th April at 7.30pm. This will also be the AGM and all positions will be made vacant. All parents are invited to attend. Hope to see you all. Jenny Machado

From the Deputy Principal (Staff) I hope all families took the opportunity to spend some quality time together over the ANZAC Day weekend. I know Year 12 students would have had set work to complete in-lieu of their missed classes on Monday. The weather was kind to us last Thursday and our College Athletics Carnival went extremely well. It was great to see so many students competing and having fun. Our Year 12’s looked fantastic and their leadership and participation was all that could be expected. A special thanks to Ms Brown and her team for their organisation of the day. Emergency Response Drill On Friday morning (Per 1) we completed a lockdown drill. Students were largely unaffected by the drill as they stayed in class and continued with their normal lessons and PE classes were required to move indoors. The scenario we ran was a report of dangerous dogs on-site and we were required to wait for Council ‘Rangers’ to come and collect them. In Terms 3 & 4 we will run and practice other types of responses to ensure the College is best prepared for any real situations should they arise. Parking / Traffic Parking and traffic flow along Bulmans Road continues to be an issue, especially at the start and end of day. Can I ask all parents / guardians to park legally and be patient and courteous to other drivers. On most mornings and afternoons when I am on duty, drivers are very responsible in ensuring that they allow other traffic to flow around them, but I have had complaints last week that some drivers have parked in locations that restricted other drivers’ access or progress. The College will also contact the local Council to ask if traffic compliance officers can monitor the situation. Bus Forms Students who travel on the following bus services - Eynesbury - Strathtulloch, Diggers Rest - Rockbank, and Toolern Vale are required to visit Student Reception this week. An audit is being undertaken to ensure students have completed a bus form which ensures they are eligible to travel for free. The Public Transport Department for the Victorian Government requires this information. Students travelling by bus from the Long Forest area are also required to visit Reception. John Christie Language News On behalf of the Languages Team, we welcome our Italian exchange student Sara Caramaschi from Verona, Veneton in the North of Italy. Sara is in Year 11 at our College and loving the Australian way of life. We are delighted to have Sara join our CRC Melton school community until the end of this term. Indonesian Study Trip On the 26th of March to the 8th of April, 6 students and 2 teachers went on the CRC Indonesian study tour. This study tour was a wonderful experience with a bike ride though villages and rice fields, thrilling walks on the edge of an active volcano, being immersed in beautiful Indonesian culture and talking amongst very friendly people. From riding horses to elephants, plains to trains, snakes to monkeys and temple to temple it was most certainly a trip to remember. Simone Newton 9M Have You Been Confirmed? CRC Melton Athletics Carnival 2016 Last Thursday the 21st April Catholic Regional College Melton held their annual Athletics carnival. Despite less than promising forecasts in the lead up to the event, the weather held out and staff and students alike were able to enjoy the beautiful facilities and surroundings Newport athletics track had to offer. With track, field and novelty events all running simultaneously it was a busy day with high participation from students across the year levels. It was great to see so many students present and involved, not only competing in events but also supporting their team and assisting staff in the organisation of the program. A special thanks to all house leaders, staff and parent helpers for your hard work in making the carnival run smoothly. Congratulations to Reed for narrowly beating Glasheen to take out yet another CRC Melton athletics carnival. House MVP Awards: The house MVPs are awarded by the house leaders to one student from each house that has demonstrated high levels of participation, sportsmanship and team spirit. Congratulations to the 2016 athletics MVPs: Glasheen – Evana Miesen Daffey – Joshua Oldfield Reed – Billy Wheeler Fitzgerarld – Maddison Djatschenko
