28th July, 2015 Reflection Great Spirit Prayer Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind, Whose breath gives life to all the world. Hear me; I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people. Help me to remain calm and strong in the face of all that comes towards me. Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. Help me seek pure thoughts and act with the intention of helping others. Help me find compassion without empathy overwhelming me. I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy Myself. Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes. So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.

School Improvement Framework Review

Ice/Drug Community Forum

This week the College is being reviewed by the CEOM using the SIF 2 process.

As was written in last week’s newsletter the College is holding a Drug Community forum August 6 with the support of Victoria Police and the City of Melton. We have been overwhelmed with the responses. As the forum is being held in our Performing Arts Centre the numbers able to attend are limited and we’ve had to ticket the event. Those who have indicated they would like to attend have been sent an email on how to collect tickets. The forum will be broadcast on Melton Community FM radio 979.

There has been a number of significant changes at CRC Melton since our last SIF Review in 2011, so we have been looking forward to the process. Thanks to all parents, students and staff who have been involved in interviews or surveys. I will report back to the school community regarding the outcomes of our SIF2 later this term.

Rob Blackley Deputy Principal (Students)

Re-enrolment 2016 VCE / VCAL Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews During Term 3 a formal re-enrolment process will take place. This process enables the College to comply with a CEO requirement regarding enrolment data which is due in Term 4. The actual enrolment prediction for the 2016 school year will influence the recurrent funding for the College. To ensure you do not jeopardise your child’s re-enrolment we would appreciate all fee payments being brought up to date. Mark Sheehan Principal

Thanks to all parents / guardians that attended last week’s interviews. They provided a great opportunity to set goals for students in their last full term of school. We welcome any feedback from parents / guardians on the PAM Booking system or on the interviews that took place.

Parents & Friends The next meeting of the Parents & Friends will be held on Wednesday 29th July at 7.30pm.

2016 Subject Selections

Tree Planting Day

Year 11 and Year 10 students continue with their 2016 Subject Selections. Our 2016 Year 11 Subject Selection process now involves family interviews this Thursday. I hope to see many parents / guardians take the opportunity to be involved with their child’s selections, as in previous year’s these conversations have been extremely valuable. Booking sheets were in the subject selection envelopes distributed to each student.

Last Friday, 24th July, we held another successful Tree Planting Day. The Environment Leaders, Meg Gleeson and Demi Hockaday, organised for students to participate in the day by either helping us to plant trees in the park across the road or to create a terrarium they could take home. Overall we planted 250 trees; created 40 terrariums; and had 300 students participate in the day. We would like to thank Bunnings Melton and Melton City Council for donating plants for the event and the maintenance staff for helping with the organisation of the day. We were very lucky with the weather and are proud that we have helped to beautify our surrounding environments.

Semester Two Subject Changes Year 10 and Year 9 Elective changes for Semester Two have been finalised. Buses Families may be aware that we have been changing the process of bus departures at the end of days to accommodate the new Town Bus timetables. Our new system (which seems to be working well) has the following departure sequence: BM Coaches for Toolern Vale, Hopetoun Park and Darley depart first. Students for these buses can go straight to their bus or wait along fence. Town Bus students and Underbank bus students wait behind wooden bollards for their buses to arrive. Normally all students on these buses have departed by 4.00pm. We will continue to monitor this system and feedback is welcome.

At the Victorian Parliament the students participated in a role play where an actual piece of legislation was rein-acted by the students. Students also enjoyed a brief tour of the parliament including both houses of parliament and the library. It was an enjoyable day for the students and a rewarding educational experience. St Bernard’s Parish Primary School - 125 years celebration St Bernard’s are holding a street procession next Friday, July 31 . The procession will begin at 11am at the corner of Fisken and Simpson Streets (around where our previous school was) and will travel up Crook and Lerderderg Streets before arriving at our school (current site). The students will be led by a horse-drawn Cobb & Co coach and some will be dressed in period costume. We’d love people to wave as we pass, or join in and walk with us.
