28th October, 2014 Reflection When God visits His people "When God visits His people he restores hope to them. Always. You can preach the Word of God brilliantly: there have been many excellent preachers throughout history. But if these preachers have failed to sow hope, that sermon is useless. It is mere vanity". (Pope Francis, Homily at Santa Marta, September 2014)

Growing Junior Tall Poppies Awardee: Matthew Previti Prior to the Term 3 holidays, Matthew was successful in his application to “The Growing Tall Poppies Science Program” coordinated by University of Melbourne. As an awardee of this prize, Matthew won access to scientists and mathematicians who will be connected to our school throughout 2015. This exciting opportunity will enable connections between real science and the science curriculum.
Parents & Friends Meeting There will be a Parents & Friends meeting this Wednesday, 29th October at 7.30pm.
Matthew also attended a four-day workshop at the University of Melbourne during the September holidays. He had the opportunity to collaborate with scientists to develop activities that would promote science in the school community and encourage students to continue to study in the sciences. During this time he explored many ways of communicating science concepts within the classroom. Matthew spent a day in a Bio-Chem-Physics Laboratory extracting the metabolites from red, yellow and green capsicum and he used sophisticated spectroscopic equipment to analyse the contents. On his final day, Matthew got to rub shoulders with a panel of scientists and mathematicians in a Q&A session. For his hard work and efforts Matthew was last week presented the “Growing Junior Tall Poppies Award” at a Ceremony held at the University of Melbourne. Matthew will be continuing his work with the “Growing Tall Poppies Science Program” in 2015. Catholic Regional College would like to warmly congratulate Matthew on his achievements and the College looks forward to hearing more of Matthew’s experiences in 2015. Mark Sheehan Principal
