29th October, 2013 Reflection May God bless us with discomfort at easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships, so that we may live deep within our hearts. ALL: We are called to love. May God bless us with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that we may work for economic justice for all people. ALL: We are called to be just. May God bless us with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, hunger, homelessness and rejection, so that we may reach out our hand to comfort them and to turn their pain into joy. ALL: We are called to compassionate action. And may God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we can make a difference in the world so that we can do what others claim cannot be done. ALL: We are called to serve the poor. AMEN. (taken from the Marianist Social Justice Collaborative)

Two common queries so far have been about the Tablet cases and keyboard options: Only College provided cases can be used with the tablets to ensure insurance coverage is not lost. Families may purchase keyboards at their own expense but only the College recommended type will be supported by us and covered by insurance: Acer keyboard dock for Iconia W510/W511 tablet. Educational Maintenance Allowance

Year 9 Food Technology – Super Hero Themed Party

The EMA provides financial assistance to families on a low income to help with the cost of essential educational items such as textbooks, stationery, uniforms and excursions. EMA is a means-tested payment - parents must hold a Centrelink/Veterans Affairs concession card to be eligible. In 2014, the EMA amount is $200 for parents of eligible Prep students, $150 for parents of all other eligible Primary school students, $300 for parents of eligible Year 7 students and $250 for parents of all other eligible Secondary school students up to the age of 16. Children turning 16 years during the year, are paid on a pro rata basis until their birth month. An EMA application form must be completed by eligible parents/guardians and submitted annually to schools. Forms are available for collection from the Office.

Once again this week, our second Year 9 Food Technology class entertained the remaining prep classes from St Catherine’s with a themed party. It was the culmination of their research, planning and hard work for Term 3. The Year 9 students were required to research age appropriate food and activities and to put this information together in the form of a party. The Year 9 students showcased amazing leadership potential as they entertained the prep students with their Superhero training obstacle course, making and decorating super hero glasses, icing small cakes and relay races with a unique super hero twist. Congratulations to all Year 9 students involved.
