3rd June, 2014 Reflection A Student's Prayer Help me remember that you’re always by my side at school and all day long. Help me be the best student I can be, using all the gifts and talents you’ve given me. Help me study well and often – especially when I don’t feel like studying at all! Help me finish all my homework – on time. Help me listen to my teachers and coaches. Help me play fair and play safely, help me be honest when I’m tempted to cheat. Help me always tell the truth. Help me be kind to everyone at school and to treat others as I’d want them to treat me. Help me make good friends and help me be a good friend to others. Help me know how I can help others and to ask for help when I need it myself. Help me love and respect, trust and appreciate my parents - and to be honest with them. Help me remember that you’re with me always, Lord, and that you’ll never leave my side. Amen (From concordpastor)

The original plan, as you know, was to build the TTC at Melton South on the Victoria University site.

Year 9 Hospitality Childrens Party

Full school photos were held last week, it was very impressive to see, for all but a few students, everyone in the full winter uniform. There is still the opportunity to place orders online up until 10 days from the day of the photos if you haven’t already done so. Follow the link www.arthurreedphotos.com.au/schoolorder and use the ordering code CRM485.

On Wednesday 28th May the Year 9 Hospitality class hosted a children’s party inviting thirty Prep students from St. Catherine’s Primary School. The theme was ‘Disney’ with all the prep students dressed up in their bright and colourful characters. The hospitality students spent several sessions planning and designing ideas for the day, including the food, table and room decorations, invitations and lolly bag designs. The Prep students arrived at 12.00 and were greeted by an enthusiastic group of Year 9’s who then moved off into five different planned activities for a ten minute rotation time. The Preps loved the face painting, obstacle course, character card game, pin the eye on Mickey and baking rainbow biscuits. At 1.00 all the students enjoyed the delicious array of creative sweet and savoury foods. The highlight was the cake of the day with Mickey the monster which was cut up and all the Prep students took a piece home for later. The final departing gift for the Preps was a gift/lolly bag which they were delighted to take back to school. Congratulations to a wonderful group of Year 9 Hospitality students for their hard work and amazing team effort.

Brave - From Beyond Blue We often get queries from parents regarding programs to help their child overcome periods of anxiety. A program has been released this week from Beyond Blue called BRAVE. It is a free online program that helps prevent and treat anxiety in young people. The BRAVE program is a fun and interactive self-help course that helps 8 to 17-year-olds manage anxiety using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) techniques. There is also a separate program for parents, with advice on supporting young people with anxiety. A team from Griffith University, University of Southern Queensland Australia and The University of Queensland, with funding from beyondblue, has developed the BRAVE program. To find out more or to register for the program, visit www.brave4you.psy.uq.edu.au

Parent Strategies for Teenage Success You may recall I advertised a parent evening for Year 12 students but unfortunately had to cancel. Since then there have been inquiries from other parents across the other year levels about the possibility of offering to the wider school community. I am currently negotiating with the presenter some possible dates, as soon as this is finalised it will be published in the newsletter.
