4th June, 2013 Reflection Prayer for Exams Loving God, be with our students now, as they prepare for their exams. Thank you for the many talents and gifts you have given them and for their opportunity of education. Calm their nerves and anxiety, help them to remember all that they have studied, to express it clearly and to answer the questions the very best that they can. Holy spirit, sit with them in their exams - and always. In Jesus’ name,

Amen

Principal’s Enrichment Leave

Late Arrivals

Our principal, Mark Sheehan, will be away for the remainder of Term 2 on enrichment leave. We wish Mark and his wife Kaye a safe and fulfilling break. In the meantime, John Christie will be Acting Principal and John McCann will be Acting Deputy Principal (Staff).

Please note that students, who arrive at school after Homeroom (9.00am), must still report to the office to get a late pass. If they do not obtain a late pass parents/guardians will receive an absence SMS, as these are generated on Homeroom rolls.

Exams & Reports

A reminder that next Monday, June 10 is the Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday. I wish all families a safe long weekend.

Best wishes to our Year 9, 10 and 11 students who begin exams this week. Exams by themselves do not reflect all the learning a student has undertaken during the semester, but are still very important tasks. Students need the practice of preparing for, undertaking and reviewing of exams, as these skills are vital at Year 12 where end of year exams still account for over 50% of most subject scores. Students must be aware though, that just a good score on the exam is not a guarantee that they attain an overall satisfactory grade in a subject. Classwork, homework and participation in activities all contribute to the overall grade.

Building Resilience in Children and Adolescents

Woolworths Earn & Learn Program

Presenter: Chris Daicos Ages: Primary and Secondary

We are excited to be taking part in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program. You can help our school by collecting Woolworths Earn & Learn Points when you shop at Woolworths until Sunday 9 June 2013. We will redeem these for educational resources for our school. For every $10 spent at Woolworths you will receive a Woolworths Earn & Learn Point. Pop them onto a Woolworths Earn & Learn Points Sheet and once it's completed, just bring it back to school or drop it into the Collection Box at your local Woolies. The more we collect, the more we can redeem. There are thousands of products available through the Woolworths Earn & Learn program such as resources for Mathematics, English, Science, Art & Crafts, through to sports gear, library supplies and more. We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program. If you have any questions, please ask at school. Points sheets are available from the front office.

Young people in our schools today need the skills, knowledge and practice opportunities to build social relationships, to cope with difficulty and to work collaboratively. Resilient children are socially competent, can solve problems, have a sense of autonomy and independence, and a sense of purpose and future. As a consequence, these children have an increased capacity to learn. This seminar will: 

  

provide an overview of the recent research in the area of resilience examine the profile of the resilient child and the protective factors that enhance these qualities provide an opportunity to identify and associate current work/parenting with protective factors explore ways of increasing and maximising these protective factors for children and adolescents DATE
