5th March, 2013 Reflection Jesus, The Teacher He never taught a lesson in a classroom... He had no tools to work with, no blackboards, maps or charts... He used no subject outlines, kept no records, gave no grades, and His only text was ancient and well worn. His students were the poor, the lame, the deaf, the blind, the outcast... And His method was the same with all who came to hear and learn... He opened eyes to faith... He opened ears with simple truth... And opened hearts with love, a love born of forgiveness... A gentle man, a humble man, He asked and won no honours, no gold awards of tribute to His expertise Or wisdom... And yet this quiet teacher from the hills of Galilee has fed the needs, Fulfilled the hopes, and changed the lives of many millions... For what He taught, brought heaven to earth and God's heart to mankind.

Working Bee A big thank you to those parents, staff and students who turned out on the weekend to assist us in painting, gardening and cleaning up the school. We had 110 volunteers over the course of Saturday and Sunday - I would have liked more parents there. I remind parents that if you did not contribute 5 hours to the College last year, you will be required to pay $100 in a Parent and Friends levy. Special thanks to Marg Behan and Sharon Grime from the Parents and Friends who catered for all staff and volunteers with a BBQ lunch on both days. Thanks also to the CRC Grounds staff, Peter Drew, Noel Cornish, John Dougherty and Sam Schembri who were here both days on the weekend.

House Swimming Sports Can I acknowledge the outstanding work from our Director of Sport, Nathan Guthridge and those who supported him on our House Swimming Carnival last Thursday. The Year 12s led the students in a positive way and feedback from staff, parents and students has been most effusive. It’s a delight to receive emails from parents about how well the day went in their eyes. Federation Mass The annual Federation Mass will be held at CRC St Albans next Tuesday, March 12th. As staff will be undertaking Professional Development in the morning there will be no classes on the day. Class of 2012 Last Wednesday, Year 12 2012 students returned to the College for a BBQ dinner. It was a great chance to hear about what they will be pursuing post VCE/VCAL. Mark Sheehan Principal

John Christie Deputy Principal (Staff) Academic Catch-up One of our College aims is to build confidence and engagement in academic study. To help those students who are not submitting assessment tasks, a task that appears on the report, by the due date, with no reasonable excuse, we will be providing an Academic Catch-up session for them after school on a Thursday. This session will be a mentoring session with a teacher from that subject who will encourage and monitor the work that was not submitted. You will receive a letter in advance of this to inform you of the time. Looking forward to your on-going support in this. Robyn Sullivan Director of Learning Year 12 Food Technology (Unit 3 VCE) The Year 12's have been busy learning new complex processes that they may choose to use in their final SAT (Portfolio). As you can see from the pictures, pasta making (using a pasta machine to roll and shape the pasta) was accomplished on Monday. Why the different colours? They used beetroot, fresh herbs, pepper and spinach to add flavour, texture and colour to their fettucine. You have to agree it looks (and believe me, it tasted) delicious. Keep up the great work, Year 12's. Monica Bloetz Food Technology Teacher

Peter Pan Rehearsals Begin

CRC Swimming Carnival 2013

Rehearsals will begin for the College production, Peter Pan, this Thursday 7th March. Rehearsals will run from 3.30pm – 6.00pm on a weekly basis. All cast members are to wear comfortable clothes (preferably their PE uniform or suitable dance wear) to rehearsals. Students are to bring their afternoon tea and a drink of water to rehearsals. All cast members are reminded to submit their commitment contract directly to myself or to Ms Goldby, not through the office, before the first rehearsal. Last year’s production set a new precedent at CRC. We had more parents involved with Charlotte’s Web than in any other year and it was amazing. It would be wonderful to have the assistance of so many parents again in 2013. Any parent interested in helping out in any way with the show, particularly with costumes, photography, creating a foyer display or being a part of the front of house team, please contact me personally so we can discuss this further. Please don’t think that we don’t need your help, because we appreciate even the smallest contribution that parents can make with their time and skills. There was some decidedly fierce competition for some of the roles during the audition process, which always makes the casting process difficult. The Production Team congratulates all of the actors and dancers who made it into the production and all the very best in making Peter Pan a performance that the College can be proud of. Let’s raise the bar! Clare O'Sullivan Performance Coordinator cosullivan@crcmelton.com.au

Results from the Swimming Carnival will be in next week’s Newsletter.
