6th September, 2016 Reflection Seeing and loving in others what you see and love in them God our Father, the qualities I see lived out so well in some people are a reflection of your own goodness, and I know that I have much to learn from other people who reflect your image and likeness in different ways. Inspire me to respect others fully as my equals, seeing and loving in themwhat you see and love in them. Amen

Dear Parents and Students, Canonisation of Mother Teresa There were great celebrations for the Catholic Church and particularly the Missionaries of Charity Sisters last weekend when Pope Francis declared Mother Teresa a Saint, honouring her for working with the poor in India. In his homily, Pope Francis said she had shone a light in the darkness of the many who no longer had tears to shed for their poverty and suffering, she showed mercy to all and offered practical help for the poorest and for all those in need. I share a prayer from St Teresa People are often unreasonable and self centred FORGIVE THEN ANYWAY If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives BE KIND ANYWAY If you are honest, people may cheat you BE HONEST ANYWAY If you find happiness, people maybe jealous BE HAPPY ANYWAY The good you do today may be forgotten DO GOOD ANYWAY Give the world your best and it may never be enough GIVE YOU BEST ANYWAY For you see, in the end it is between YOU AND GOD It was never between you and them anyway National E Smart Week National eSmart Week, September 5-9, is an initiative developed by the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, in partnership with Telstra Foundation. The web is a great place to learn, be creative and stay connected, but with one in seven young Australians found to be suffering from cyber bullying, and the many other challenges young people face online, it’s important that we invest in giving our students the skills they need to be responsible digital citizens. That’s why we are participating in the Alannah & Madeline Foundation’s National eSmart Week - along with hundreds of other schools and libraries - to show our commitment to cyber safety, wellbeing and digital inclusion. The eSafety Office provides some excellent resources for parents, students and schools of the digital world we now live and rely on, check out the following link for parents https://www.esafety.gov.au/education-resources/iparent

Mobile Blood Bank

Last Tuesday Jesse O'Rourke, Juliet Brooking and Athyang Akec visited the mobile blood bank in Melton. Each blood donation helps to save the life of three others so altogether our donation contributed to saving 9 lives. The process began with paper work and an interview and ended with the consumption of the very famous and yummy choc chip cookies. The girls were slightly nervous but very brave and excited about their contribution. Well done. Marg Rowe-Watts Social Justice Coordinator VET Music Nights

Mitchell Fenton: I helped with typing on Microsoft word and helped with creating their treehouse story door display for book week. Jayden Cran: I helped some kids with coming up with ideas for their box room in the 26 story treehouse display. Terence Arambulo: I aided several kids with their project ideas Liam Beck: I helped a student come up with ways to make planets for his project and I gave ideas about how to make a ball pit room display in a cardboard box.

RSPCA Bake Sale thank - you Last Friday Ken Dumandan and the Social justice team held a bake sale for the RSPCA. Many students and their parents supported this by helping bake some amazing cakes, cup cakes and treats at home. With everyone's help we were able to send off approximately $228.00. This money will be used to train more officers looking after the welfare of animals. Marg Rowe-Watts Social Justice Coordinator Language News Languages Day was last Friday and what a great day it was for all the Year 7s. The day consisted of a visit from Adam, an animator and the only Australian person who writes and draws Simpson comics. He taught us about the characters and how to make them seem lifelike. Then a hilarious comedy act followed. The two main protagonists were two Italian boys named Pasquale and Pippo. They both had eccentric senses of humour. Their play was called Mission Gnocchi and of course, it was about making gnocchi in a most hilarious manner. Their act was definitely the very best part of the day. I believe all the Year 7 students would agree. This was immediately followed by an Italian performer called Philip, who taught us Italian songs and how to dance the Tarantella and Waltz dances. We had gelati and a multicultural lunch. Afterwards, we also enjoyed performances from students in higher year levels. The talent we witnessed was unbelievable. We would all like to thank the teachers for their efforts on this spectacular day especially Mrs. Russo.
