8th August, 2017 Reflection Mary MacKillop Prayer Ever generous God, You inspired Saint Mary MacKillop to live her life faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and constant in bringing hope and encouragement to those who were disheartened, lonely or needy. With confidence in your generous providence and through the intercession of Saint Mary MacKillop We ask that you grant our request………………. We ask that our faith and hope be fired afresh by the Holy Spirit so that we too, like Mary MacKillop, may live with courage, trust and openness. Ever generous God hear our prayer. We ask this through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Dear Parents and Students, Today is the Feast Day of St Mary of the Cross and you see below some of our students pictured next to our statue of St Mary Mackillop. Anna Cicalese, Montana Salton, Thomas Spiteri and Kade Bishop are part of the team of ten students and five staff that are taking up a challenge set by St Mary of the Cross 100 years ago “whenever you see a need do something about it”. They are sleeping rough on Friday night as part of the Vinnies Sleep out which is happening across Australia If you would like to support this cause donations can be left at the College office. Languages News

Last Friday we were fortunate to have sunny weather when we visisted Ballarat's Wildlife Park. The Italian travellers thoroughly enjoyed the day out, patting kangaroos, feeding them and taking lots of photos with our beautiful native Australian animals. The koalas were awake and the crocodiles looked quite terrifying; lying still waiting for their prey. The Tasmanian devils, the dingoes, wombats and of course, the echidnas were also admired. It was wonderful to see the Italian guests spending time with their host families, enjoying Australia's stunning landscape and beautiful wildlife. We also had our last Italian excursion on Friday 4th August to Mount Macedon. This is such a beautiful part of Victoria. The scenery is breathtaking. We walked all the way to the Cross but unfortunately, it was so foggy that the scenery was a very dusty white smoke. This didn't dampen our spirit as we then enjoyed a delicious lunch in Gisborne. It has been an absolute joy having Carlo Calligaris and the students from our sister school, an international school - CNPD in Cividale: Lucrezia Andreotti, Maria Fiori, Elena Zamò, Pietro Poboni, Francesco Muradore e Anna Olivo. The biggest thank you however, goes to our host families: the Chin Family, the Arbizu Duran Family, the Matthews Family, the Attard Family, the Williams Family, the Christie Family, the Brooking Family, the Stone Family, the Hansen Family and the Paproth Family. Without your wonderful support and kindest hospitality, such an exchange program would not be possible, so on behalf of the CRC school community, our sincerest thanks. A Farewell dinner will be held for the exchange students and host families this Thursday night in the school staff room at 6:30pm. Grazie Mille. Claudia Russo and the Languages Team

Winter sleep out and appeal 2017

Did you know that there are approximately 300 people that are homeless on any given night in Melton? “Are you ready to step up” On Friday August 11th we are hosting our very own Winter Sleep out at school. Our aim for the night is to raise awareness and some vital funds to help those experiencing homelessness in and around our community. A school sleep out also gives students the opportunity to understand the realities of homelessness by sleeping “rough” for one night. During the night we will hear from some guest speakers, discuss the issues around homelessness and share a small meal together before setting up our “bed” for the night in the hall. Several staff will be in attendance and appropriate security measures will be put in place to ensure that our night is a success. Participants in the event are asked to raise between $75–$100.00 through sponsorship. The money raised will be passed onto St. Vincent De Paul and Hope St. Melton who provide many valuable services for the homeless in Melton and the surrounding areas. Students wishing to take part are able to obtain the necessary forms from the student office. They should be returned as soon as possible to the office or to Ms Rowe-Watts. If you have any concerns please email me at mrowe-watts@crcmelton.com.au Winter coats and blankets Urgently needed Each year Vinnie’s feeds and houses thousands of families doing it tough through winter. They urgently need good quality winter clothing particularly Coats, blankets, sleeping bags, hats, gloves and scarves. We will make sure these get given out to those that need them.
