9th August, 2016 Reflection Only For a Short While Oh, only for so short a while you have loaned us to each other, because we take form in your act of drawing us, and we take life in your painting us, and we breathe in your singing us. But only for so short a while have you loaned us to each other. Because even a drawing cut in obsidian fades, and the green feathers, the crown feathers, of the Quetzal bird lose their color, and even the sounds of the waterfall die out in the dry season. So, we too, because only for a short while have you loaned us to each other. - Aztec Indian Prayer

Dear Parents and Students, Last Friday we hosted two special guests from Convitto Nazionale Paolo Diacono, our sister school in Northern Italy. Mrs Patrizia Pavatti (Principal) and Mr Vittorino Michelutti (Deputy) were very impressed with CRC Melton, our facilities and resources, and importantly our staff and students. Mrs Pavatti met with the 5 students who have been with us for 4 weeks, and their feedback was also positive. Thanks again to the families who have hosted our visitors. We look forward to our farewell Dinner on Thursday night for all involved in the Italian exchange program. Staff Service Day Friday, August 19 is the College’s Staff Service Day. The College will be closed that day as staff undertake various social justice activities. Re-enrolment 2017 During Term 3 a formal re-enrolment process will take place. This process enables the College to comply with a CEO requirement regarding enrolment data which is due in Term 4. The actual enrolment prediction for the 2017 school year will influence the recurrent funding for the College. To ensure you do not jeopardise your child’s re-enrolment we would appreciate all fee payments and Thanksgiving envelopes being brought up to date. School Improvement Surveys 2016 - Have your say We are seeking your participation in school improvement surveys to help shape the ongoing improvement of our school for the students in our care. The survey will be available from Monday 29th August, 2016. Our School Improvement Report is an invaluable resource in our ongoing pursuit of improvement. This helps us to identify what is going well and not so well and the ways in which we can improve and further develop our school. We would therefore greatly appreciate your continued support by completing the survey this year. If you are willing to complete the survey please email: kmatthews@crcmelton.com.au to receive the survey information. Mark Sheehan Principal

Cooper’s Animal Refuge

Sarah Clewer, Tahlia Coulson and Nicole Mercieca visited Cooper’s animal refuge last week as part of their community service. This is what they had to say. “We dried the recently mopped kangaroo room and cleaned a very messy storeroom by organising the many pouches, blankets and miscellaneous objects into different piles. We also met some kangaroos varying from infant to near adult. We watched the infants get fed and patted the older kangaroos, avoiding their boisterous actions and learning about the shelter's namesake - Cooper.”

The Winter Sleep Out 2016 - $2367.60 raised On Friday night 19 students from across all year levels along with 6 staff spent the night at school, sleeping rough in order to raise awareness around the issue of homelessness. Between the group we raised a huge amount of money that will be donated to St. Vincent De Paul and to Hope St. Both organisations work for the care of the homeless, the latter working particularly in Melton. The CRC community also supplied hundreds of dollars worth of toiletries to One Voice ( shower bus) along with some bags of clothes, beanies, hats, gloves, scarves etc. The message that came across from all of our amazing guest speakers was that homelessness does not discriminate, it effects people from all sections of society and that it is important to reach out to someone if experiencing hardship. Congratulations to the whole community, including those that participated, those that sponsored students and those that donated. These funds will make a difference to the lives of others.
