We visited Phoenix Therapy Healthcare which specialises in relaxation and stress management Karen White, owner of Phoenix Therapy Healthcare, told Doncaster Echo: “In today’s fast-paced life it is all too easy to forget about self-care and selfpreservation. We don’t notice that our bodies are burning out until they are burnt out.” The therapy centre, based in Thorne, offers a variety of packages and programmes which all aim to help you deeply relax, recuperate and restore balance in your life on all levels. Daniella Dennis, from Doncaster Echo, went to try out the Sound Frequency Healing treatment, a deep relaxation and repair process which re-balances your energy levels, releases trapped emotions, strengthens your immune system and repairs DNA by penetrating vibrations into your body, sending thousands of neurotransmitters

Sound frequency healing is just one of the many therapies offered within the therapy centre. Phoenix Therapy offers complete wellbeing packages such as ‘V.I.P’ Mind, Body & Soul Rehabilitation’, ‘Pamper me Positive’ and ‘Relax and Restore’.
“The whole experience blew me away, I have never felt so relaxed and so good. I am still speechless even now.”
All the programmes are unique and are not available anywhere else in the UK as they have all been designed and delivered by Karen.
Daniella added: “This is something that can’t be explained but everyone needs to experience, it’s like I felt an entire energy shift deep within my body. I certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a therapy, Karen was lovely and has a wealth of knowledge.”

FROM A POLICE New year, new priorities for the Doncaster Policing team
“Feeling safe in Doncaster, enjoying where you live and knowing that we’re here to help and support you when you need us, is our absolute key priority for 2020.”
Page 10
Issue 007 - February/March 2020
E PERSPECTIVE: This month Chief Superintendent Shaun Morley, District Commander for Doncaster, talks to us about the past year and what the main priorities are for 2020 Our communities remain at the heart of everything we do and going in to 2020 this is going to remain our absolute priority. Throughout 2019, we have worked hard across Doncaster to ensure our processes are right, to enable us to respond quickly and effectively to you - our public. What has greatly assisted us with this is the investment we have made in neighbourhood policing. In 2020, we’ll see a continued uplift to both our neighbourhood and response functions which will mean more cops in your area, responding quickly and efficiently to any problems you may have. This will be kick-started with the reopening of Edlington Police Station in February, which will be an incredibly positive step for the area. After that, we’re hopeful that expansion at a number of other key bases will follow. As a result of feedback from residents, we are also in the planning stages of looking at creating a base in Conisbrough and Denaby. We will continue tackling suspected organised crime groups and their associated criminality, and over the last 12 months, our Fortify team has carried out numerous warrants, stop and searches and proactive operations to disrupt these groups, particularly in Mexborough and the surrounding areas.
This has resulted in the seizure of cash, drugs and jail time for some of the most prolific offenders. With four prisons here in Doncaster, the dedicated Prison Crime Unit, working alongside prison staff, has seen some real successes. There has been a big push on tackling illicit items from getting into prisons and by having a visible presence across the four sites at each visit, they’ve done just that. Our neighbourhood and response colleagues have also made significant improvements in the town centre. Over the last 12 months, we saw a number of issues around spice and begging. Working with our colleagues at Doncaster Council and their complex lives programme, we have reduced these issues dramatically and helped a number of vulnerable people, making the town centre a safer and more enjoyable place to be. Feeling safe in Doncaster, enjoying where you live and knowing that we’re here to help and support you when you need us, is our absolute key priority for 2020. With refined processes in place, we are now offering a more effective and timely service and to keep doing that we need you to keep talking to us. By knowing what’s bothering you and what’s working well, the force, alongside our excellent partners such as the council and St Leger Homes, can continue improving the quality of life here in Doncaster.

Make a pledge to m It’s a new year and the Trusted Mentors scheme, run by Doncaster Children’s Services Trust, is looking for more volunteers to give some of their time in 2020 to help vulnerable youngsters who could use some independent support and guidance The Trust delivers social care and support services to children, young people and families in Doncaster on behalf of Doncaster Council. It believes that every child and young person in the borough deserves the best start in life and support when they need it to reach their full potential. Support is given to children and young people of all backgrounds, races, disabilities and cultures who need support in the borough at times of need or crisis in their lives.
Page 12
With funding from the Department for Education’s Doncaster Opportunity Area Programmes, since launching in January 2019, the scheme has enlisted 161 mentors, most of whom have completed their training, been matched with a child or young person and have started on an enduring coaching and mentoring relationship. Through your role as a mentor, you will help encourage positive choices, promote high self-esteem, academic support and introduce new ideas. Simple things that may seem
Issue 007 - February/March 2020
mentors for 2020 straightforward to you, may be a complete mystery to a young person – your help may open their lives to a world of possibilities. The aim of the scheme is for mentors to support young people to get involved in positive activities towards achieving their aspirations. This in turn will make them happier, more confident and have a positive effect on their schoolwork. Your role as a mentor is to be supportive to individuals and build relationships with young people offering them guidance, support, and encouragement. Students aged between nine and 18 from schools across the borough are part of the scheme. One 13-year-old girl said having a mentor was “like having a weight lifted off my shoulders”. Another child said he was less worried about moving to secondary school now that he has a mentor to talk to about his worries.
Project Manager of the scheme, Cheryl Blackett, said: ‘We have had brilliant feedback from parents and schools about the difference our mentors are making to the lives of children and young people in Doncaster and we want to continue to make a difference. New Year is an ideal time to think about what you can do for others in the year ahead and we would love to hear from anyone who would like to join our team”. Full training and support is given and each volunteer is carefully matched with a child or young person to ensure the partnership works for both the mentor and the young person. So if you are up for a new challenge this year and want to give something back to your community, become a mentor. For more information about the Trusted Mentors scheme, go to www.doncasterchildrenstrust. co.uk/volunteering/trusted-mentors or contact the team on 01302 735721.

Business expert Katherine Rowell from D&K Wills talks us through how important it is to create a will and what you need to consider
Do I need a will? This is one of the first questions that I get asked, why do I need a will? While the primary purpose of your last will and testament is to distribute any property you own in the event of your death, you will need to consider other factors that may affect your decisions. There are many answers to this question depending on people’s circumstances but in the interest of speed I have dealt with five of the most common below: 1. To make distributing your estate easier for your family on your death. With no will in place someone will have to apply to be the ‘administrator’ of the estate – sounds simple enough. However, who is going to be the someone? Normally this must be the next of kin (unmarried partners need not apply). Separated husbands/wives/civil partners can still apply! They then need to apply for the Letter of Administration which involves a postal application form and an interview with the Probate Registry.
2. When a person dies without leaving a valid will, their property (the estate) must be shared out according to certain rules. You do not want your estate to be left as per the ‘laws of intestacy’. When this happens, the intestacy laws of the state where you reside will determine how your property is distributed upon your death. 3. You have a more complex family set-up, for example, stepchildren and second marriages both of which may alter the provisions made under a will. 4. You have minor children. Without a will, listing a guardianship should both parents die mean surviving children will be put into foster care until the social care system allocates a carer for them, this is normally done through the courts. A guardianship within a will is a simple clause which makes a legally binding request as to who will look after your children. 5. You want to take the pressure off your family with your wishes laid out in a clear fashion for them to follow.

Meet the Doncaster Knights Cheerleaders We caught up with Doncaster Knights’ cheerleaders (DK CHEER) to find out more about the club and the exciting things planned for the upcoming year DK Cheer is a local cheerleading club which has been running for over 13 years. Run by head coach Bekki Kettle and assistant coach Abbie Lynds, the club started up by advertising summer camps during the summer holidays for ages 7-18 and since then it has become a wellknown cheerleading club in the Doncaster area. The girls have performed at football games, made appearances on Sky Sports and also performed at events in and around the local area. DK Cheer currently has over 30 girls from ages 7–19. Recently they have had huge success with their newly formed adult squad which made up of six girls aged 18+, some of which had been part of
the club for 11 years. Abbie Lynds, assistant coach of the club, told Doncaster Echo: “We are hugely proud of all the girls at DK CHEER. The adult squad girls’ first appearance was at the South Yorkshire school games, a Doncaster cheerleading competition where they performed their first ever routine and were chosen as guest judges for the competition.” In January 2020, a brand-new club within the Askern area has been set up which had over 20+ students in launch week. The brand new students attending this club are ages 7–18. It seems the only way is up for the team and we cannot wait to see their progress.
