wareness Day We are very pleased to report that the number of dog thefts in our area remains very low. That’s all very well to say but it has to be the worst fear of any dog owner. The theft of a dog is an extremely traumatic experience for anyone and if it is reported to us we will act to locate the dog and fully investigate the theft. Many victims use social media to share the news of a theft or missing dog and this is now the go-to place to get the message out far and wide. We know from a couple of cases in our area that dogs can be taken a long way from home and it can be months before they are found and reunited with their owners. So any way that you can circulate the image and details of your stolen dog the more chance that it will be found. Three spaniels were taken from a village near Bridlington in February 2021, two of the dogs were located near Wigan and Preston and returned within a matter of 10 days. The last dog, Keedy, was found in Kent in May 2021. The owners were obviously very happy to be reunited with their beloved pets. During the pandemic the numbers of people buying puppies and dogs increased massively
and fears of dog owners were raised after social media posts highlighting cases of theft across this country. We were pleased that we did not see an increase in our area during the pandemic and now want to take the opportunity again to remind people to stay on their guard and take some basic crime prevention measures to protect their own dogs. • Report any suspicious activity to the police, if you see people checking out properties please call us to report your concerns. • Make sure your garden, house and outside kennels are secure. • Check gates, lighting and think about CCTV. • If your dog is kennelled outside please ensure these are secure and locked and install CCTV to monitor your property if at all possible. • If you are out with your dog please keep your dog under full and proper control, in sight and avoid leaving your pet tied up in a public place and outside shops. • Be careful who can see your pet’s photos on social media. • Change your routine regularly.

Goole Town Deal: Journey to Investment Goole’s ambitious £25million Town Investment Plan focuses on regeneration and economic growth Work is progressing on preparing individual business cases for each of the 10 Interventions with delivery due to start later this year.
The Delivery Team will be attending events in Goole during the year to give residents and businesses further opportunity to engage in the Town Deal programme.
Town Deal is a process-driven investment journey until 2026. Business cases are necessary to ensure all the projects connect well and deliver for Goole. It seems a very long journey before any visible changes are seen but it’s important each project is developed and delivered correctly, so the best impact can be achieved.
While the 10 projects are all agreed, with clear outcomes to be funded, there will be opportunities to help shape key aspects of the projects as they develop. Throughout the next four years, until Goole’s bicentenary in 2026, more engagement and community participation will take place as the journey moves to delivery, and the vision for Goole begins to take shape.
Now that we can all meet in person again, the Delivery Team will be establishing opportunities for residents, business owners and other stakeholders to participate in the finer detail of each project and see the progress being made. Details will be announced in due course.

Riverside Special Scho money for new minibu A group of staff from Riverside Special School in Goole are getting together in the Easter holidays to walk the Yorkshire Three Peaks in hope of raising money to go towards a new minibus for the school The Yorkshire Peaks walk entails a gruelling 24.5 mile walk including three of the highest peaks - in under 12 hours. In the run up, staff will be dedicating part of their weekend to train for the walk which will be taking place on Thursday 21st April 2022. Our Goole had a chat with Jodie Mitchell to find out more about the fundraiser. What will you find most challenging? I think the Yorkshire Three Peaks is a challenge in itself - walking three of Yorkshire’s highest peaks, totalling 24.5 miles and hoping to do it under 12 hours. It will be hot according to The Met Office so that in itself could be a challenge! What are you most looking forward to? I’m most looking forward to spending time up in the hills. It’s always been one of my favourite things to do and I think doing it with a bunch of like-minded people from work will make it 100 times better! I also think what a team-building exercise. What made you want to sign up to the challenge? I actually decided on the challenge and asked who would like to join! I couldn’t believe the amount of colleagues that signed up! I think it’s going to be a great experience and it’s all for the pupils at Riverside. We wish Riverside Special School all the luck for this challenge! This month, Jobcentre Goole talks to us about youth homelessness and how Safe and Sound Homes (SASH) exists to help 16-25-year-olds affected by homelessness across North and East Yorkshire
SAFE AND SOUND HOMES - SASH
Youth homelessness in the UK is a very real problem Almost 122,000 young people faced homelessness last year and not just in big cities, but across counties and in rural areas.

Safe and Sound Homes (SASH) exists to help 16-25-year-olds affected by homelessness across North and East Yorkshire. The charity offers vulnerable young people a safe and secure place to stay, keeping them safe at a time of crisis.
The charity operates an emergency accommodation service, Nightstop, a longerterm Supported Lodgings scheme and, in the East Riding, a Resettlement service. Our solution to youth homelessness is a simple one, founded on the willingness of local people to support those struggling in their own communities.
Some 46% of the young people we help come to us because of family breakdown. Other reasons include abuse, relationship or fostering breakdown, eviction, young people leaving care with nowhere to go or seeking asylum. SASH ensures that such vulnerable
For some young people, a short stay in Nightstop is all that is needed to facilitate a return home or find somewhere permanent to live. For others, we enable a transition into independent adulthood by providing a safe place to call home in our Supported Lodgings scheme.

Whilst putting a roof over someone’s head is essential at a time of crisis, it does not resolve the issues that lie at the root of homelessness. To address these, we work with our hosts and partner organisations to provide the individual support that each young person needs. This includes emotional support; helping young people to continue in or return to education; help to enter the workplace for the first time; and learning practical skills such as budgeting and cooking. We support young people to change their lives and build a positive future. Our ambition is that those we help never face homelessness again and go on to live and thrive independently.
