However, we think many of us will be happy to see it come to an end as it has certainly been a year we will not forget! Although it may be very different this year, we hope everyone still has a brilliant time celebrating with their family and friends, even if it is over Zoom.
meet the staff
This edition we have dedicated an article to some of our favourite local businesses in and around Goole who have some brilliant gift ideas if you are looking for something special this year.

New tea room opens in memory of local father and husband For Ema Baxter and her family, lockdown has been tough and certainly a time they will never forget. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the family as they are now celebrating opening a new tearoom in The King’s Head, Pollington, in memory of Ema’s father Keith, named after his dog, Boo Page 6

Issue 057-December 2020
Our Goole had a chat with Ema to find out more about the family’s tough time during lockdown and how the tearoom came about. Ema said: “It was a new year, new start, or so we thought. I was putting a lot of time into my businesses and things were starting to take shape. Then in February my dad collapsed and was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer. My dad was born and brought up in Pollington and Balne and was very well respected and the centre of our very close family. “Lockdown then happened and my dad was denied the treatment he was supposed to have due to Covid-19. We spent lockdown refurbishing the pub as well as keeping my second business running. With great help from good friend Eddie, the pub reopened mid-July two weeks after all other pubs as the risk to my dad was still too high. While it was important to open the business it was important to keep my family safe. “My dad then passed away in September leaving a massive hole for my mum, sister and I. So with help from family friend Netty Barnett, formerly of the Barn Cafe which had ceased trading, we decided to open Little Boo’s in memory of my dad. The name comes from his dog Betsy Boo, a (Chorkie) Chihuahua cross Yorkshire Terrier that
he took everywhere with him. He would call her Boo hence the name ‘Little Boo’s Tearooms’. “As we have now hit a second lockdown which looks bleak for the pub and hospitality trade as there would be a massive loss in income over the festive period, it seems all our hardwork has to be put on pause for now. “We are staying positive as we welcome our new chef Trevor Lansdall (who has catered for the Queen on numerous occasions). We are doing takeaway and delivery on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, even offering a 36oz tomahawk steak on Saturday evenings. We will be also offering a pre-made Michelin-starred Christmas dinner. “Little Boo’s is opening a boutique online at www.littleboosonline.co.uk, offering afternoon teas, gifts and homewares plus Little Boo’s Village Store will hopefully be open in time for Christmas giving Pollington a village shop once again with local produce and home-cooked foods, all available to order online via click and collect, delivery or just drop by the shop.” For more information about The Kings Head and Little Boo’s Tearoom, please visit www.kingsheadpollington.co.uk

FROM A POLICE The latest policing
This month, Goole policing team updates us on what is happening in and around the town as well as giving details on how you can get involved in a community meeting with Inspector Powell
“We encourage anybody who has experienced anti-social behaviour or has any information in relation to this matter to contact the police on 101 or the AntiSocial Behaviour Team.

E PERSPECTIVE:
priorities in Goole St George’s Green The park on St George’s Green has recently seen a significant increase in the number of children wanting to use the facility. Unfortunately this has also meant that there has been a few incidents of anti-social behaviour being reported. This includes young people staying in the park until late and causing an issue with noise, litter and smashed bottles being left and damage being caused to equipment. Goole North Officers are working closely with East Riding Council and specifically the Anti-Social Behaviour Team to address these problems. We are aware of the negative impact this is having on the residents who live here as well as families who want to visit the park with their children. We encourage anybody who has experienced anti-social behaviour or has any information in relation to this matter to contact the police on 101 or the Anti-Social Behaviour Team. Adeline Street & Jackson Street Complaints have been received in regards to a number of issues around the Adeline Street and Jackson Street area of Goole. Issues concerning anti-social behaviour, nuisance motorbikes, noise nuisance and fly-tipping have been raised. The Goole Neighbourhood Team has
been working closely with partner agencies and has been visiting residents on the streets speaking to them about these issues, how they are affecting their neighbourhood and how we can help to resolve them. Motorbikes There are regular complaints concerning the anti-social use of off-road bikes and motorbikes. Riding these bikes are, for some, a popular pastime, however, it can result in complaints to the Police and Council when they are being used in a dangerous, noisy and anti-social way. Off-road motorbikes can only be used if it is on private land and you have the land owner’s permission. It is illegal to ride any motorbike in public open spaces such as parks, play areas and pavements. Community Meeting Inspector Powell will be hosting a half-an-hour online community catch-up via Zoom about Goole and he is inviting you to join him. There will also be the opportunity to ask any questions and raise any concerns/issues you may have. These will be taking place on the following dates; Wednesday 9th December 2020 at 19:30 Wednesday 6th January 2021 at 19:30 Tuesday 16th February at 14:00

The best extensions for your home Extending your home can be one of the best things you can do as a home owner. This can potentially add value to your property while also generating precious space. Conservatory There are some shrewd advantages to having a conservatory extension. Having one installed affords you creative freedom over the style of it, the size of it, as well as its internal decoration and layout.
room, you may decide to opt against a conservatory and go for a separate dining room, office space, or a games room. Additional bedroom Many families decide to move homes entirely as the children get older, and/or if another child is in the plan. An extension can be enough to create that extra space.

This month, Jobcentre Goole talks to us about the Virtual Workshops taking place to help people who are looking for employment
Virtual Workshops Organised by National Careers Service, several workshops are taking place this month to help people who may need a little help when it comes to finding and applying for the right job. A virtual job fair is an online networking event, and it gives you the opportunity to meet lots of employers without leaving home
At an interactive fair, the employer is available online to talk about their company and their job vacancies. Some virtual recruitment fairs replicate ‘traditional’ face-toface recruitment fairs. They have virtual ‘stalls’ so you can visit employers that interest you. They may also include workshops like CV writing and interview preparation. The National Careers Service can help you make career decisions throughout your life, from deciding your education route, planning a career change at any age or getting the job that is right for you. You may have been made unemployed due to Covid-19 and need a little help trying to find a new job or may need to freshen up your CV writing
skills, whatever the needs. The Virtual Workshops have something for everyone. The workshops include Preparing for Employment, Graduate Jobsearch, Interview Skills, Experience Matters (45+ years), Starting Out (18-24 years), and Creating a Winning CV. Each workshop is designed to help you understand what employers are looking for, how to identify your strengths and transferable skills, as well as how to complete successful application forms, and interviews. Hopefully after attending one of the Virtual Workshops you will build your confidence in completing job application form, feel able to deconstruct job descriptions/person
specifications and have a fabulous CV which makes you stand out from the rest and potentially land the job role you have applied for. The National Careers Service can support you to put the skills you have to good use. It can also help you gain new skills to begin or get on in your career. The support is available to you at any stage of your career. You can use our online resources or speak to our advisers. Customers will need access to a wi-fi enabled device, however, video is used. To book on to a session please contact the booking line on 0800 100 900 or email bookingline@ educationdevelopmenttrust. com with your name, telephone number and email address.
