FROM A POLICE PERSPECTIVE:
Enjoy a fraud-free Christmas!
As the festive season fast approaches and you start to tick off that Christmas shopping list ahead of the big day, Goole Policing team are encouraging residents to be vigilant when you hopefully bag yourself a bargain in the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales
We all know this time of year is when we start buying our Christmas presents for loved ones. With so many websites out there, we are constantly searching for the best bargain and if us Northerners can save a quid or two, we will!
However, it’s important to remember that there are fake websites out there who are only after your bank details, so be vigilant.
In the three months leading up to Christmas last year, £85.9k was lost to online shopping fraud in Humberside – that’s an average of £511 per person!
Detective Sergeant Dan Brittain from our Economic Crime Unit said: “As part of #OpYuletide, we’re launching our 12 festive frauds in the lead up to the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.
“The impact that fraud can have not only
financially but emotionally and mentally can be exhausting and continues to be the highest concern for members of the public in an ever-advancing online world.
“We really want to empower people to be able to protect themselves and would encourage you, before making any purchases, to do your research, trust your instincts and choose your payment methods wisely.
“Over the next 12 days, we’re going to be sharing 12 different types of fraud to be wary of throughout the festive period and if you have any concerns or questions, make sure you contact us via our non-emergency number 101 or by following #SayNoToFraud #TakeFive on social media.
“You can also visit the dedicated website in partnership with the Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside for more information: www.saynotofraud.uk”

Local Talent Transforms Passion into Purpose with Klopp Artwork
Fuelled by his passion for art and dedication to raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of his grandma, 18-year-old Ollie Garrett from Howden presents a stunning hyper-realistic drawing of Jurgen Klopp
Ollie is currently in his second year at Wyke College, mastering A Levels in Maths, Fine Art, and Graphic Design.
Ollie’s love for Liverpool FC runs deep. So, when it was time to say goodbye to Jurgen Klopp earlier this year, he grabbed his pencils and drew an incredible portrait to honour the legend.
Ollie told Our Goole: “I love drawing in hyper realism and testing my ability. I chose to focus this piece on Jurgen Klopp, as a lifetime fan and to mark all he has done for Liverpool FC.
“I finished the drawing around the time my grandma passed away following a short battle with cancer so thought I could help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support by donating a percentage of the monies raised through sales.”
Macmillan Cancer Support is a UK charity that offers support to people living with cancer and their loved ones.
Macmillan nurses are specialist cancer nurses who can help you to understand your cancer
diagnosis and treatment options, and support families through their cancer experience.
Ollie is offering his stunning A3 prints at £25 each for unframed versions, and £40 for framed. Plus, he’s donating 20% of all profits to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Excellent job, Ollie!

This month, local property expert Phil Jones from Link Agency
One of the key components of the property selling process is the initial assessment of the marketing price. This is so often where people make the mistake of choosing an estate agent that gives them the highest price as a valuation. In fact what they have is a market appraisal, with a price that the agent has recommended that the property be offered at. The valuation is something often very different, ultimately
the market determines value. But even then, it is common for lenders to “down value” properties for which they are issuing a mortgage on. This is essentially saying that the offer was an aberration of the market and as such it is deemed to leave the lender exposed. Agents that are qualified with the NAEA are very much aware that giving hyped-up market appraisal figures is a contravention of the Estate Agents Act 1979.
