Goole’s must-attend events: Mark your calendar!

Goole’s multi awardwinning centre for the arts opened its doors in November 2009.

Junction combines three purposes – it’s the administrative and civic base for Goole Town Council, a community centre and a busy mixed-use arts facility, hosting a wide range of live events, cinema and satellite screenings, has a workshop programme, and activities that reach out into our community.

Everything they do is intended to inspire and develop the way all of our communities enjoy the arts. The programme of events treads a careful path to balance popular appeal with excellent and more challenging work.

They offer significant and sometimes life-changing opportunities, whether that’s through a young person on work experience, people getting a chance to realise undiscovered talents, or a professional artist creating work, especially for Goole.

FROM A POLICE PERSPECTIVE:

Lifestyle Awards 2024

At the end of last year, Humberside Police hosted the 2024 Lifestyle Awards at Hull City Hall, a special event dedicated to recognising the hard work and dedication of young people who spent their summer making a positive impact in their local communities

The Lifestyle Project, a key youth engagement initiative of Humberside Police, encourages young people to work in teams and complete community-focused projects during their summer holidays.

Projects ranged from bake sales and park clean-ups to raising funds for foodbanks and creating forest schools and environmental awareness programmes. The diversity of the projects this year was truly inspiring.

A total of 57 teams took part in the initiative, raising over £18,700 for charity and contributing more than 4,500 hours to community improvement.

The overall winners were presented with the first-ever Lifestyle Trophy and won a trip to London for the whole team. The top award, announced by Assistant Chief Constable Mike Walker, went to the Patrington Champions. Concerned about road safety near their school, the team created leaflets, posters, and parking tickets to raise awareness. They also raised funds through raffles and lemonade sales to produce road safety materials. Their efforts not only benefitted their

local community but also inspired other schools to take similar action.

Assistant Chief Officer Mike Walker said: ‘’It’s truly inspiring to see so many young people dedicating their time and energy to projects that make a real difference to their communities. The Lifestyle Awards provide an important opportunity to celebrate their efforts and acknowledge the positive impact they have had.

‘’These young people have given up their time and energy to improve their community. Each of the teams have made a huge impact, and I hope their efforts inspire other young people to do the same.

‘’Well done to the winning teams, and a huge congratulations to everyone involved in the Lifestyle project. Every project, finalist or not, has made a meaningful impact, and the benefits to our communities will be felt for years to come. Thank you for your dedication and hard work this summer.’’

Our Goole turns

It only feels like yesterday when it all began, but here we are celebrating Our Goole turning nine this month. We are super excited to have got this far and cannot wait for many more years.

We are so proud that Our Goole is thriving, and that is all thanks to our lovely customers who continue to support us - whether that’s through advertising in the magazine or sharing a great local news story to entertain our readers.

So much has happened in these nine years, and we have achieved a great deal. We will continue to take pride in helping the community the best we can.

Whether that is promoting businesses or finding feel-

good stories, we help shine a light on all the fantastic people and charities we have here in Goole.

We chatted to director, Lisa Warrener, to find out more about running Our Goole and what her proudest moments are.

“It is a huge achievement to be celebrating Our Goole’s ninth birthday. The past few years have been extremely difficult for so many of us and as a small business we faced many challenges and struggles. However, we got through it and our business is busier than ever!

We pride ourselves on being able to help all those small businesses like us, so to still be here promoting the local businesses and acknowledging Goole’s fantastic community spirit, it really

turns nine!

has been brilliant and that is all down to our readers and advertisers.”

Over the past nine years, Our Goole has become a household name in and around the town. People come to us for so many things and we are the first port of call for so many people. Our Goole vows to do its very best to help each member of our community in whatever way we can.

Since the magazine was relaunched in 2016, Our Goole has run a number of successful toy appeals, sponsored local football teams and donated to many local charities such as The Green Team, The Moorlands Community Centre, Youth Space - Goole, and many more.

In the past nine years, CreateTVT, the producers of Our Goole has also won ‘Contribution to the Community (Business)’ at the Goole & Howdenshire Business Excellence Awards twice, in 2019 and 2024, and was a

finalist in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Last year we scooped New Marketing Agency of the Year by Corporate LiveWire Global Awards and Best Small Family-Run Marketing Business in the UK by M&A Today Global Awards.

Lisa went on to say: “To be recognised for these awards just proves that all the hard work is worth it and we are creating something special.”

The only way is up for Our Goole as it continues to provide an excellent service for our community. A huge thank you to all the businesses who advertise and the community for providing us with such feel-good stories. Without you, none of this would be possible.”

We hope 2025 is going to be our best year yet and we cannot wait to introduce ourselves to many new businesses in Goole and help them grow, as well as continuing to shine a light on the brilliant place Goole is and the people that live here!

Here’s to nine more years!

This month, local property expert Phil Jones from Link Agency talks to us about the importancy of your photos when marketing your property

Spot the difference

When buyers are looking at properties online or in estate agent’s particulars, they make their minds up in seconds.

That’s why having the very best photographs of your home is so important.

The below property was listed by two agencies for over six months. Link Agency took over in September on a sole agency contract and were able to agree a sale within 6 short weeks.

The photographs in green were taken by Link Agency, whereas the one in red was taken by another agent. How we did it:

• We pointed out to the owner a few simple

jobs that would enhance the presentation and help to attract interest

• We waited for a sunny day and sent a professional photographer with a drone, who spent two hours doing what she does best.

• We advertised this property on Rightmove, Zoopla and OntheMarket.com.

• We did the viewings - it helps a lot (making sure that the seller was out of the way).

• We reacted quickly to offers and negotiated a deal which works for all parties.

By managing the progression of the sale we are able to ensure that the deal holds together. 8 4 4 4
