FROM A POLICE
Lifestyle 2023
This month, Goole policing team talks to us about one of its youth engagement projects where young people aged 10-18 register to spend their summer holidays completing a project to benefit their community
“Lifestyle gives youngsters the chance to showcase the difference they can make in their local communities while building key skills such as team work, problem solving and communication and presentation skills.”
POLICE PERSPECTIVE:
For 34 years, tens of thousands of young people have registered for Lifestyle and taken on challenges that have made a huge difference to their local communities during the summer holidays.
In recognition of their work, we have been proud to offer a wide range of fantastic prizes over the years for the most innovative and successful projects undertaken. These include: a trip to London, UK adventure holidays, days out at Flamingo Land and many more.
Sergeant Nick Bunker said: “Lifestyle is a really important initiative which has seen some incredible results over the years.
“Lifestyle gives youngsters the chance to showcase the difference they can make in their local communities, whilst building key skills such as team work, problem solving and communication and presentation skills.
“Every year young people get together in groups and take on a challenge to help improve their community in some way.
“Over the years we have seen some incredibly innovative and inspiring activities. Teams have worked incredibly hard to make
improvements to their local area, supported members in their community and raised money for causes important to them.
“This includes setting up a mobile library to raise awareness about mental health, working with charities to promote organ donations, providing education about road safety, using recycled plastic to make a buddy bench for a local school and raising money for a defibrillator at a local playing field.
“Our Lifestylers were certainly busy and I really enjoyed hearing about all their creative ideas for each project. I hope this year proves equally popular and I look forward to seeing what this year’s Lifestylers get up to this summer.
“I would like to thank all those who help make Lifestyle possible and wish all participants the very best of luck.”
Aged 10-18 and fancy making a difference in your community and potentially winning a fantastic prize? Then look out for our PCSOs who will be visiting schools and colleges to promote Lifestyle 2023.
You can also visit our website http://www. humberside.police.uk/lifestyle where you will be able to sign-up soon.
The Winners 2023
Businesses from across the local area were recognised at the 2023 Goole and Howdenshire Business Excellence Awards, which took place at Goole Academy on Friday 14 April
This year’s event was hosted by Blair Jacobs, a former presenter of BBC Radio Humberside, and featured entertainment from Hull-born Amy Gledhill, a comedian, actor, writer and winner of The BBC Caroline Aherne Bursary.
Garrey Haase, chair of the organising committee, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who entered and attended the awards evening, as well as all of our sponsors and supporters. We couldn’t do it without you all!
“Well done to all of our finalists and huge
congratulations to our very deserving winners!”
The judging panel chose Goole Sports Therapy as the recipient of the Harry Gration Business Of The Year Award, an accolade that had been renamed in honour of the late television presenter, who had compered the awards evening every year since it first began. The award was sponsored by PA Media and presented by Gareth Brammall.
The other big winner of the night was popular local butcher Philip Parkin, who was chosen by the organising committee to receive the
Tim Richardson Lifetime Achievement Award.
Philip, who runs Parkin Family Butchers, is a stalwart of Howden’s Market Place, and well known for his cheerful banter with customers, entertaining posts on social media and charity fundraising activities. Philip took over the family-run business from his parents, Roy and Sylvia, and has become something of a local celebrity with his cheerful personality, awardwinning YouTube videos and, of course, his farreaching knowledge of livestock, for which he is in big demand at country shows and auctions across the county.
An independent panel of judges waded through around 60 entries before coming up with their final shortlist and then choosing a winner for each of the award categories.

if you’re thinking of selling your home, these next few months are the best time to put it on the market
Spring is the perfect time to sell
You know what’s great? Springtime! The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and everything feels fresh and new. And you know what else is great? Selling your home during this time of year!
If you’re thinking about putting your house on the market, spring is the perfect time to do it. Why? Well, for starters, there are way more buyers out and about during this time of year. With the weather warming up, people are more willing to get out and look for their dream

Plus, you’ll have more time to enjoy the weather and get excited about your new adventure.
