After a two-year enforced break due to the pandemic, the charity has its paws crossed that the day will raise much-needed funds for local animals. Whether you reckon your prized pooch would be champion at Waggiest Tail or a good dog for Sit and Wait, there’s something for everyone, £1 a class entry. The classes are Best Child Handler (12yrs or under), Cutest Puppy (six-12mnths), Prettiest Bitch, Most Handsome Dog, Waggiest Tail, Prettiest Eyes, Sit and Wait, Best Groomed Dog, Ten Years and Over (we love a golden oldie!), Fun Run Obstacle course. With the finale, Best in Show, 1st, 2nd and 3rd get their Page 6
paws on a rosette and a food bag from Burgess Pet Care. All winners of each class will automatically be entered into Best in Show (overall winner) for a chance to win the 2022 trophy and a treat box courtesy of Minmont Pets who will also be in attendance. E PERSPECTIVE: This month, Humberside Police talk to us about how the force has hundreds of popular members of police staff, but few match the appeal of canine lifesaver Clive, the black and white cocker spaniel On Friday 11 March 2022, Clive retired from his paw patrol as a life-saving medicalassistance dog. Medical Alert assistance dogs provide support to anyone with complex health conditions and who have limited awareness of an impending life-threatening medical event. Clive worked alongside his owner Michelle Sutherland from Humberside Police’s Logistics Department where he was her faithful companion and true lifesaver. Seven months after getting Clive as a puppy in 2012, Michelle was diagnosed with the lifelimiting condition Addison’s disease, a rare disorder of the adrenal gland with life debilitating symptoms including extreme fatigue, weakness and generalised muscle pain. After spending a long period in hospital following complications related to her condition, Michelle returned home and straight away noticed a change in Clive’s behaviour. Following a chance conversation at Crufts in 2014 with representatives from Medical Detection dogs, a suggestion was made about the possibility of having Clive trained as an assistance dog to help Michelle manage her condition better. It soon became apparent that the changes
Michelle had noticed in Clive were signs of him alerting and after approximately 18 months in training he became her Medical Alert assistance dog. Clive can detect a drop in Michelle’s steroid levels by a change in her scent levels and makes her aware of this by either jumping up to her face, or if she is asleep pawing at her until he gets her attention. She will then take action by injecting herself. As a result, he was a life saver every day and emergency ambulance trips became a thing of the past. Clive has also been nominated for and won several awards including: • Winner in the 2019 Pet Health Club’s “Pet Hero of the Year” • Finalist in the 2019 Amplifon Pet of the year • Winner of the Barking Mad Pet of the year His most prestigious award though, which he will receive later in 2022, is the PDSA Order of Merit which is the animal equivalent of an OBE. Everyone at Humberside Police wishes Clive a long and happy retirement - we are sure there’s going to be plenty of treats in store for him as he steps aside for a new trained Medical Alert assistance dog a black Labrador called Luke.

Picnic in the Park The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is just around the corner and if you haven’t got any plans yet for the long weekend, why not head down to West Park, Goole, to celebrate with the community!
This year’s ‘Picnic In The Park’ is taking place at West Park, Goole on Sunday 5th June. Everyone is encouraged to grab their picnic blanket, flags and bunting and join together for a traditional and fun celebration of her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee! We had a chat with Jessica Sharp who is involved with organising the event to find out more. Jessica said: “Picnic in the Park is a charity event that is a great day out for family and friends. This year’s picnic also falls on the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend. “This years picnic has a “Do it for Yorkshire” grant from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to help cover costs for the hire of the park, electricity costs, publicity and decorations.

My aunt recently passed away who also had Pulmonary Fibrosis, she would come to every picnic event. What is involved on the day? We have live music on the bandstand by local artists, fairground rides for the kids. Donkey rides will also be available as well as a choice of popular food outlets based in the community, including West Park café who will be selling Jubilee-themed pack-up boxes for the kids. There will be stalls held by local businesses and other charities. The other charities include:
“The event will be raising money for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust who provide personal support to people affected by Pulmonary Fibrosis, a very debilitating and life-limiting illness. I became an ambassador for the charity after losing my uncle to Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2014.”

Property expert David Leake of Housesetc talks to us about how property is moving through the market at a record pace due to vast buyer demand
THE CURRENT MARKET IS MOVING AT PACE! The typical time on the market for unsold property in England and Wales has plummeted to just an average 55 days, 31 days less than in April 2021 and the lowest such figure in the history of this Index. Consequently, asking prices across England and Wales rose a further 0.9% overall in March, while the average price in Yorkshire jumped a massive 1.7%. The total stock of property for sale in England and Wales remains extremely low despite a small nudge up again for the third consecutive month.
Monetary inflation is high and climbing, thereby making real home price growth progressively more negative despite the apparent high nominal growth. Marginally fewer vendors entered the UK market last month compared to April 2021 (-3%), although there were regional differences. The biggest fall was in London (-18%) while the biggest rise by far was the North East with a 14% increase in new listings year-on-year. The South West property market now leads in annualised regional price growth (+9.6%), narrowly ahead of the East Midlands (+9.5%). Only these two regions show growth above the latest RPI (excluding housing) inflation figure.

Working individually or within a small group, the coaching group prides itself of being able to push your football skills to the next level. Run by Connor, the sessions started last year after Connor found a passion for developing children in smaller groups, and since then, has helped children build confidence to join grassroots clubs as well as academy sides. The sessions are for all abilities. The 1-2-1 sessions and small groups are on
Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. There is also half-term holiday camps for ages 4+ taking part in multi sports. These camps have been running for almost a year now with huge success and all spaces taken at each event. The next camp is Wednesday 1st June 9am to 3pm, West Park, Goole, £20 for the day. THE MULTI AWARD-WINNING My Baby Can Dance ® gives young children the chance to enjoy dancing, singing and movement to music whilst learning and developing confidence, imagination, strength, balance and co-ordination.
It’s also a great way to meet lifelong friends. There are currently two classes at present: My Baby Can Dance is for wobbly walkers to four years and Our Newborn Can Dance is a sensory class aimed at babies from birth to walking.
